30th International Druga Godba Festival 30 - 31 May, various venues

Juana Molina (Argentina) 29 May, 21:00 Cankarjev dom cultural and congress centre

Druga Godba, held for the 30th year running, is a festival of world and, to a lesser extent, contemporary jazz music. It ranks among Europe’s best festivals of alternative underground music difficult to fit neatly into musical categories. Druga Godba is well known for bringing to Ljubljana leading artists from different backgrounds and musical traditions who draw inspiration from traditional music and are committed to creative musical exploration. Due to its enthusiasm for ‘discovering’ less well-known music from around the globe, its line-up is often ahead of trends. The influential British magazine Songlines ranked Druga Godba among the world’s 25 best international music festivals of 2009, 2010, and 2012.

Aquae Iasae - archaeological exhibition 21 May - 26 Oct, Cankarjev dom cultural and congress centre Aquae Iasae is the first exhibition to bring together the extraordinary archaeological finds discovered during the latest excavations in the area of the Croatian town of Varaždinske Toplice, carried out by the Zagreb Archaeological Museum. In the autumn, the exhibition will also be on display in Zagreb, Croatia. From the 1st to the 4th century AD, the area around the town of Varaždinske Toplice in north-western Croatia was the site of a thermal spring and a Roman settlement called Aquae Iasae. Systematic research conducted in the area since 1953 by the Antiquity Department of the Zagreb Archaeological Museum yielded the discovery of a complex of public buildings consisting of a bathing area with various building facilities, pools, and a basilica, and an open area with a temple surrounding the thermal spring. The latest archaeological research, conducted between 2011 and 2012, yielded the discovery of highly interesting Roman architectural solutions and numerous stone monuments, reliefs, inscriptions, and sculptures testifying to the extraordinary importance of Aquae Iasae as a Roman thermal spa centre. Open 10.00 - 19.00, Sundays 10.00 - 14.00
