6. Visit at the Malta National Aquarium
An activity was organised at the Malta National Aquarium which is located between ‘Qawra Point’ and ‘Bugibba Perched Beach’ which are both Blue Flag beaches. The main attraction of the Aquarium is the shark tank. The spokesperson explained how the Malta National Aquarium has been collaborating with Sharklab Malta in a recovery and release programme of the two species of local cat shark species. Sharklab Malta visits the fish market in Valletta daily to report the amount of shark species that land and check whether they have egg cases inside them. The egg cases are generally taken out and brought to the Malta National Aquarium for further development, until they hatch naturally. As from 2021, the seven forms of single use plastic has been banned from importation. This includes plastic bags, cutlery, straws, plates, cotton buds, food containers and stirrers.
