The benefits of a spa visit, are not just physical in nature, they can have emotional and spiritual advantages as well. Our spas are tailored to improve the wellbeing and comfort of our guests all the way. Modern lifestyles and the stress we endure often result in people experiencing a spiritual vacuum, with increasing numbers turning to spiritual therapy to understand their emotions. Myoka Spas are the ideal places for people to find the balance they need to achieve genuine fulfilment in their daily lives. The pursuit of fulfillment, health and happiness should be the aspiration of everyone.

Malta unravels to reveal a bevy of historical and cultural wonders to further enrich your experience during your spa holiday. If you don’t want to explore the island, then you can choose to spend your entire break relaxing in one of our spas and taking advantage of the huge range of fantastic journeys available. Whether you want to relax and be pampered, detox, lose weight or take decisive steps to improve your wellness with our Ayurveda specialists, there is plenty to keep you active and engaged – all delivered by Myoka’s experienced team and wide range of specialists, Ayurveda doctors, Thai, Chinese, Indian practitioners, wellness and medical consultants who specialise in techniques and treatments from all over the world. The Myoka ethos or main focus with wellness is the overall improvement of quality of life, with particular emphasis on relaxation, inner peace and individual equilibrium. We start each guests journey with a detailed consultation to understand their concerns and design a unique protocol of cleansing and regeneration to aid healing and maintain good health. Why not experience the traditional Ayurvedic treatments or indulge in one of our spa packages personalised for your needs? The Myoka Ayurvedic Centres located in our spas help to revive battered senses. Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine originating in India about 5000BC. A compound of the word ayus meaning life and veda meaning knowledge, the word Ayurveda means “knowledge of life”. Five thousand years of wisdom distilled to purify the body, mind and soul, it is often called the mother of healing, where everything used is of herbal origin and has no side effects. It is a holistic therapy, which can prevent diseases, arrest premature ageing and let you enjoy good health. Our guests can consult with one of our Indian practitioners to see what treatments would be best for them or plan a suitable course of action prior to your visit in Malta. Start your day with a one-to-one yoga session followed by an anti-stress consultation, deep breathing class and a combination of holistic treatments along with a spa lunch. While you are being treated like a king or queen you can make full use of the spa facilities which include indoor heated pools, saunas and steam rooms, fitness centres, plunge pools and more. If you are looking to get away from the demands and pressures of life, look no further. Balance and re-energise in sunny Malta. Our spa treatments and facilities create respites for the senses, but to live a spa life, one must experience relaxation within oneself and extend it with kindness to others. So learn to love yourself! For further information about our wellness packages, signature treatments and customized packages contact us on +356 21 5725156 or visit www.myoka.com.

The archipelago of three islands – Malta (the commercial and cultural centre), Gozo (its more rural sister) and Comino (which is largely uninhabited), which is spread over only 316 square kilometres, make up this rich and varied nation. There is no area in the world the size of Malta that packs in so many ancient archaeological sites, natural beaches, local traditions and spectacular scenery. And it is now emerging as one of the leading spa and wellness destinations in the Mediterranean. It is its laid-back charm and unhurried lifestyle that make Malta an alluring destination for those seeking to relax, rejuvenate, and escape from life’s stresses. Culture vultures and history buffs can also enjoy Valletta’s most impressive gems, the St. John’s Co-Cathedral, or the picture perfect medieval citadel of Mdina, also known as the ‘silent city’, featuring palazzos and striking baroque architecture, which are hidden behind a walled fortress. These important historical landmarks give an insight into Malta’s interesting past for many and provide wonderful places to explore at a slow pace. Nature lovers will find plenty to admire too, such as the Dingli cliffs (the most spectacular natural monument in Malta), where you can stroll along the many walking routes, or the Buskett Gardens and Verdala Palace (the official summer residence of the President of Malta), which are a sanctuary of vineyards, orangeries, olive and lemon groves – and are a delightful place for picnics.

it has carved itself out as a year-round wellbeing destination. The Islands have seen the arrival of some 40 or so dedicated spa and wellness centres, most based in hotels. Full and half-day packages and á la carte options, mean spa and wellness treatments can form all or just part of any holiday. Four and 5-star spa hotels in Malta are the epitome of luxury, with lavish indoor and outdoor pools, multiple restaurants, relaxing environments and rejuvenating health spas. The spas offer a range of familiar single treatments from reflexology to Oriental cupping therapy, to the more adventurous chocolate and mesotherapy slimming massages. For time-conscious travellers there are lunchtime anti-stress massages and there are also competitive spa specials for those on a budget. Many spas also offer ‘mother and daughter’ pampering packages, and various signature therapies ranging from colour therapy, body toning, and detox or stress-buster programmes to specialist aesthetic interventions, such as Dermal fillers. Mums-to-be are not forgotten, with a range of experiences such as pre-natal water therapies, and lower leg massages to help with water retention. On hand there are plenty of qualified nutritionists, dieticians, physiotherapists, chiropractors and personal fitness trainers as well as sessions of pilates, yoga and Tai Chi to complete the overall well-being experience. Medical tourism is also becoming increasingly important and select hotels are now offering post-surgery and wellness/ holistic recovery packages. Several spas offer unique, pioneering treatments that are designed, for example, to help people recuperate after operations, or work on specific clinical complaints. The concept of wellbeing is carried beyond spa treatments as hotel restaurants are also adopting a selection of healthy food options and snacks for its guests. Healthy meals, which are very

However, one of the most important aspects of Maltese life is its food. It’s rustic, real, hearty and healthy. Due to the Mediterranean climate and fertile fields, the sheer abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables available is astonishing. Green grocers set up shop at the side of main roads and busy places, where anyone can buy a freshly squeezed orange juice or half a succulent melon for a vitamin C fix, or a prickly pear rich in antioxidants. Healthy food doesn’t get much better than this. Maltese history is long and complicated, and its geography and landscape unique, together these have made it one of the most enticing islands in Europe. However, the Islands offer much more than beguiling history, culture and geography – it is a splendid sanctuary for relaxation and wellbeing. Malta is no newcomer to the world of health and wellness. It has long played an important role in caring for people dating back to the time of the Hospitaller Knights of St. John. Their hospital, (now the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta), was renowned throughout Europe in its day for its advanced medical practices. The Knights’ legacy lived on in the British period when Malta became known as the ‘nurse of the Mediterranean’ for its role in caring for British troops. And, sitting only three hours from Britain, it has all the credentials for a perfect short-haul spa and wellness getaway. Malta is spoilt for spa and wellness experiences. Over the years

low in calories, fat and sugars, with no salt added, are prepared for those wishing to detox or lose weight – all using locally sourced produce and fresh ingredients. Outside the confines of hotel resorts, there are plenty of things to do to relax, such as exploring the pretty beaches, country walks in the unique and rugged countryside, or admiring the local history, all of which will awaken, freshen and invigorate the soul. A spa stay in Malta has all the ingredients for the perfect trip.

sports, which can be enjoyed year-round. The terraced fields, bordered by miles of old rubble walls, slope down a myriad of hills and valleys, giving the countryside an irresistible lure for ramblers, especially during the autumn, winter and spring months when the Island attains a green golden hue all around. Surrounded by sea, Gozo naturally offers a wide range of water sports, such as paragliding, sailing and not to mention, scuba diving. Over the past decade, scuba diving in Gozo has grown immensely in popularity. This is no surprise considering the many scenic dive sites, beautifully coloured coral reefs and caves, such as Cathedral and Coral caves, which over the years have become a habitat for varied and unusual marine life. The ingredients that make Gozo and Malta so attractive for scuba diving are the unique topography, mild weather and clean pollution-free waters. In summer, the warm sea temperature (averaging 26˚C) makes it possible for divers to wear a light wet suit, making it easier for beginners and the less adventurous, and the waters around the hidden rocky coves of Dwejra invite snorkellers with their safe bathing, which can be enjoyed throughout the year. Gozo is exceptional for mountain biking for all levels of ability, with its serene environment and breathtaking views. The Dwejra route is popular for beginners and the highlights include the Azure

Gozo’s small size is deceptive – its rich history and unique landscape catches everyone by surprise. The rugged Island is covered by lush vegetation and dramatic cliffs, and is a haven of unspoiled rustic beauty. Inhabited since mythical times, Gozo retains an aura of unblemished splendour, offering a complete oasis from the stresses of modern life. The Island’s history and past cultures are evident from its Ggantija Megalithic temples (thought to be the oldest free standing structures in the world) and forts dotted around the countryside and along the shoreline. An ancient walled city located in Victoria (the Island’s capital) perched high above sea level dominates the centre of the Island. From the huge walls of the fortifications a breathtaking panorama unfolds, where all the villages with their dominant church domes can be marvelled. Situated in the heart of Victoria is the Basilica of St. George and the narrow medieval streets that surround it instil a feeling of times gone by. Life on Gozo operates at a much slower pace than its neighbour Malta – yet it’s an exciting destination, providing some of Europe’s most compelling outdoor experiences, medieval architecture, exquisite cuisine and beautiful places to stay. Gozo’s natural environment is home to a number of invigorating

window (a rocky opening framing stunning views) and fungus rock, the sheer cliffs, curving bays and gigantic caves. The Zebbug track requires an intermediate level of biking skill, with scenic rewards such as Il-Qolla l-Bajda (the white hill), Is-Salvatur (a statue of Jesus on a hill) and the picturesque Gozitan countryside. The great outdoors, pollution-free air and natural beauty of the Island aids the feeling of wellbeing. One of the joys of being on Gozo is that, no matter where you are, you’re never far from one of the many magnificent beaches or secluded little coves. There is a choice of both sandy and rocky beaches on the Island, offering scenic spots and serene areas for those wanting peace and quiet, including Dwejra, San Blas Ramla Bay, Xlendi Bay and Il-Kantra, a private fjord-like rocky beach where you can always find a corner for rest, relaxation and tranquillity. The Island’s culinary experience contains its very own gastronomic specialities and never ceases to amaze food lovers. In the past, eateries offered authentic local food, which still survive today, but aside from these family favourites there are now a number of sophisticated restaurants offering more haute cuisine and creative, contemporary dishes. However, rural cuisine, such as aljotta (fish soup) and stuffat tal-fenek (rabbit stew), can always be found and served alongside fine local wines. Gozo’s spa and wellness experiences go hand-in-hand with the environment. So you’ll find an eclectic mix of natural Ayurvedic, Balinese, Indian and Turkish treatments. Lifestyle stays (from three to 21 days) are hugely popular in Gozo, such as leading Ayurvedic retreats that are designed to restore balance as well as incorporating a nutritional programme with an Indian chef who’ll prepare tailor-made meals in line with your unique dosha (a thumbprint). Daily yoga is also offered to develop harmony and balance within the body.

There are plenty of ‘Gozitan’ rituals, too, such as ‘Ocean Memory’, which involves algae petals and salts scrub to help improve circulation. For those looking to improve the condition of their skin there are various anti-ageing, firming treatments, and inch-loss detoxifying experiences using intensive mud, which treat the skin and to help shed toxins. Feeding your body and soul with a spa retreat that combines treatments along with local food and enlightening excursions is what Gozo does best. Take boat trips around the Dwejira coast, sample produce from an organic farm or even try your hand at painting or scuba diving. Escaping the masses, whilst improving your wellbeing doesn’t get much better than this for the discerning traveller.
