Expectations. That’s what it’s all about. Your next big catch awaits you in Namdalen: in a quiet mountain lake, in the river that runs slowly towards the fjord, in the ocean beyond. You will find all of this in Namdalen. Just one more cast … Namdalen is named after one of the country’s most excellent salmon rivers, the Namsen. Deep-sea and freshwater fishing have formed the basis of human settlement and trade in Namdalen for thousands of years. Today, Namdalen is the preferred destination for sport fishermen at all levels. All of them with one thing in common: Expectations.

Mountain fishing in Børgefjell National Park – the Realm of the Mountain Trout Børgefjell is the realm of the mountain trout. You can wander from one of the many excellent mountain fishing lakes to another in search of the trout fisherman’s dream catch. Simskardvatnet and Orvatnet are among the national park’s best fishing lakes, while the sources of the rivers Namsen and Vefsn also originate within the national park. The Børgefjellkortet permit entitles you to fish throughout the national park and in the Austre Tiplingen landscape protection area. With only a few exceptions, it’s not possible to stay overnight in the national park in cabins. However, it’s possible to camp overnight in a tent.

Lierne National Park – fantastic mountain fishing The low-lying mountain areas of Lierne National Park are renowned for their excellent fishing. Innumerable first rate fishing lakes and miles of river await you here. In most of the mountain lakes there are trout and in some of them also charr. Many of the fishing lakes are easily accessible, and you can be sure to avoid the crowds here. In Lierne, there are, in fact, more lakes than people... The Nordli permit (Nordlikortet) covers parts of the national park and provides access to attractive fishing in lakes, tarns and rivers. At several spots in the national park cabins are available for rent from the mountain authority (Lierne Fjellstyret). The mountain authority also rents out boats on several of the lakes.

The Blåfjella and Skjækerfjella Mountains – mountain fishing in spectacular surroundings The Blåfjella and Skjækerfjella National Park is one of the biggest national parks in the country, consisting of a comprehensive landscape including everything from exciting primeval forests to high, untamed mountains. In this vast Eldorado, you can easily wander undisturbed for days on end. Find one of the many mountain lakes, and you will soon find trout and charr that are eager to bite.

Pike Fishing in Lierne – a varied menu With no less than six species of fish “on the menu”, Kvesjøen Lake in Lierne is a well-preserved secret among impassioned anglers in Scandinavia. Here, you can fish lake charr, charr, trout, grayling, burbot and pike. Those who make the trip to Kvesjøen every year can expect some magnificent specimens among their catch, together with the possibility of record-breaking fish turning up on their hooks. And not to mention a good fisherman’s tale, of course – you should have seen the one that got away …

Fiskeveien, the Fishing Route: Krokom – Namsos, from Mountain to Fjord Fiskeveien is an idyllic route between Krokom in Sweden and Namsos in Norway. It offers endless nature experiences, hunting and fishing. It runs along scenic mountain lakes and world famous salmon rivers, from forest village and wilderness in Krokom and Lierne, via luxuriant valleys in Grong and Overhalla, to the magnificent Atlantic coast of Namsos. You can go fishing by boat or on land, using nets or a rod, in still waters or roaring rapids. Overnight accommodations are equally as varied and include great scope for camping, motor homes and caravans, cosy mountain cabins and inviting hotels offering full board.

Trout Fishing in Namsskogan – a wealth of opportunity Uppermost in Namdalen, the outdoor Eldorado of Namsskogan awaits you. With over 800 lakes and tarns and 35 rivers, the area is a Mecca for impassioned anglers, and an ideal starting point for beginners and families with young children. The Namsskogankortet permit gives you access to the whole lot. The source of the Namsen, the Queen of Rivers, is found in the borough. In this part of the river there is an excellent stock of trout, and the unique local species of salmon, namsblanken, can also be found there. Most of this varied area is managed by the Namsskogan Fjellstyre mountain authority, which is among those mountain authorities in Norway that put the most effort into renting out cabins. You will find no less than 17 of their inviting cabins round about in the mountains, in addition to a number of rowing boats.

Salmon Fishing in the River Namsen – the Queen of Rivers The Namsen, Queen of Rivers, emerges from Store Namsvatnet lake in the borough of Røyrvik, before meandering 229 kilometres through majestic and magnificent countryside to its estuary in Namsos. Among enthusiasts at home and abroad, the Namsen is one of the country’s most coveted salmon rivers. Fishing from boats and from the banks of the river are long-standing traditions, and landowners along the river offer a wide range of facilities for both passionate anglers and those anticipating their first cast. Along the river you will find an increasing number of places offering you a “complete package” including high standard overnight accommodations, mouth-watering culinary experiences, access to exclusive salmon spots and organized activities, and nature and culture experiences. And should you wish to feel the excitement of the Namsen, you can also purchase reasonably priced fishing permits.

Namsen Salmon Aquarium – close contact with big salmon Looking for an authoritative introduction to wild salmon and salmon fishing in the Namsen? Then you should pay a visit to the Namsen Salmon Aquarium, just off the E6 in the borough of Grong. With the mighty Fiskumfossen Falls as nextdoor neighbour, you can visit the salmon studio where you will see live salmon on their way up the salmon ladder. And there are specially adapted fishing spots and nature and culture trails in the near vicinity, making the Namsen Salmon Aquarium the perfect starting point for salmon adventures in Namdal. The salmon buffet served in the restaurant is a highlight in its own right. Salmon in all varieties make your meal a delicious culinary experience. Inside the museum you can learn more about the history of salmon fishing, and visit a comprehensive exhibition of historical fishing tackle.

Trout Fishing in Grong – one permit, many possibilities The Grongkortet permit allows you access to freshwater fishing in practically the whole of the borough of Grong. Within the municipal borders you will find over 500 fishing lakes and a number of rivers of varying sizes. The commonest species are trout and charr. The Grongkortet permit includes all private landowners associations, the municipal woods, and the Nordre Bangsjøen and Brennmoen areas of state-owned common land. In addition to fishing with rods, otter boards and nets are also allowed in some of the lakes. The permit does not apply to the salmon inhabited parts of the Namsen, Sanddøla and Nesåa (see “Salmon Fishing in the Namsen”). The borough of Grong offers unusually varied natural surroundings, including wild mountains, extensive mountain plains and luxuriant river valleys. With just one permit, you have access to the whole lot.

Salmon Fishing in the River Sanddøla – the Princess of the Namsen Watercourse In Grong town centre, two of the country’s finest salmon rivers converge. The Namsen is the best known of the two, but more and more people are becoming aware of the tributary called Sanddøla. The salmon-populated part of the Sanddøla is particularly popular for fishing from the banks. In the lower parts of the river you will also find two mighty waterfalls – the Formofossen and the Tømmeråsfossen, offering exciting and challenging fishing spots. The Sanddøla offers fishing in peace and quiet. Spend some time exploring the river and you will soon discover exciting rapids, pools and deep channels that are not so easy to notice at first glance. This is where the fish bite …

Salmon Fishing in the Bjøra – idyllic surroundings The Bjøra is a classic salmon fishing river that meanders slowly past large farms and delightful cultural landscapes before merging with the Namsen. This river is the home of the biggest salmon in the Namsen watercourse, and is regarded by enthusiasts as one of Norway’s very rivers for salmon fishing. You can fish from the river bank or from a boat. Many of the anglers who travel to the Bjøra every year prefer single or two-handed fly rods, but it is also possible to fish with lures or worms. The salmon fishing season in the Bjøra starts on 15 May. The Bjøra is also known for its excellent sea trout fishing.

Salmon Fishing in the Høylandsvassdraget Watercourse – varied fishing The Høylandsvassdraget watercourse includes the rivers Søråa, Eida, Flakken and Flåttelva. The Søråa is the longest of the rivers in the Høylandsvassdraget watercourse, with a salmon populated stretch of about 20 kilometres. Large parts of the river run slowly through the local, well-groomed cultural landscape. For the most part the fishing takes place from the banks. The Søråa is a great river for fly fishing, especially for one-handed fly rods. The average salmon in the Søråa weighs between four and five kilos. The Eida includes a salmon populated stretch of about 1 kilometre. This is a very swift river where most people fish with lures or flies from the banks. You can expect salmon weighing between four and five kilos here, too.

Deep-sea fishing on the Namdal Coast The sea on the Namdal Coast has provided the basis for settlement, business development and coastal heritage for more than 10,000 years. When the first Ice Age hunters settled here, the fish in the sea provided their basis of existence. The marine resources account for much of the value creation on the Namdal Coast. The rich fish stocks in the sea also attract saltwater enthusiasts from other parts of Norway and overseas. Some rent a boat and guide and head out to the rich fishing grounds in the open sea, while others prefer to fish with a rod from the pebbles on the beach. Whatever you choose, the fish will be biting. Fishing adventures at sea are not far away. There are a wide variety of operators in Namsos, Flatanger, Vikna, Leka and on the island of Jøa that can take care of boats, tackle and the necessary knowledge.

River and Fjord Fishing in Fantastic Salen – mountain and ocean The Salen area offers some exciting challenges for anglers. You can try your hand at fishing big mountain trout in the many mountain lakes, and there are also two salmon populated rivers in the area, the Salsvassdraget and the Opløelva, which are popular among anglers. The latter runs through the town of Salsbruket, and is known for the considerable amount of salmon that drift in, providing exciting experiences for keen fishermen. To the west, Salen borders on the Follafjord and the ocean. In other words, the surroundings are well-suited to combining freshwater fishing with fjord fishing. The company known as Utmarkscompagniet offers comprehensive fishing adventures in Salen, including overnight accommodation in several specially adapted outlying farms.

The Salmon Visitor Centre – coastal culture in three acts Want to see the coast of Namdalen with its isles and skerries and fantastic natural surroundings – while at the same time learning something new? The Norveg coastal museum and the aquaculture company SalmoNor provide an account of the history of Norwegian aquaculture and demonstrate modern coastal culture in practice. The event starts with an exhibition entitled “The Land and the Ocean Beyond” at the Norveg coastal culture centre, where you will gain insight into eleven thousand years of coastal culture, and modern aquaculture’s role as food manufacturer for discriminating palates all over the world. The subsequent boat trip on board SalmoNor’s new, speedy and comfortable vessel is an adventure in its own right, providing you with an experience of the sea and the impressive and idyllic isles and skerries of the Namdal coast. On your safe arrival at the sea farm, you will be welcomed by the keeper and will have the opportunity of going down to the cages. In this way, you will have a close encounter with life at the salmon farm and the hundreds of thousands of salmon that will be swimming around in the sea beneath you.

Nordøyan – where the land ends and the sea begins Westernmost out at sea we find the islands of Nordøyan, three islands that have been an outpost and a haven for fishermen since time immemorial. The people out there have always made a living from the natural resources that surround the islands. In harmony with nature, they have been able to provide for themselves and their families thanks to the blessings of the sea. In this listed fishing hamlet you can spend the night in authentic fishermen’s cabins (rorbu). On the Nordøyan islands, the sea and the abundant fishing grounds of the Namdal coast are just beyond the quayside. In addition to deep-sea fishing, deep-sea rafting, guided tours and a number of other activities are also available. Nor do you need to bring your own boat in order to get to Nordøyan. In July and August you can catch the express passenger ferry “Foldafjord” from Namsos. On your safe arrival, a guide, a shop, some home-made fishcakes, and coffee and waffles will await you. And from the old post office, you can send postcards to friends and family stamped with the exclusive Nordøyan postmark. Nordøyan and the islands and their surrounding waters are hard to describe, they have to be experienced. You will not leave this natural gem unmoved. Far from land and folk, but close to the sea, the fish and the forces of nature.

Hasvåg – in close contact with the ocean It is not difficult to see why both passionate deep-sea fishermen and families on holiday come back to Hasvåg year after year. Life goes on here at its own leisurely pace, in a scenic and open coastal landscape. With the infamous Folla as next-door neighbour, you are also in close contact with the ocean. From a boat, you can try fishing for the big cod – or for halibut, saithe, redfish or any of the other delicacies that conceal themselves beneath the surface. Hasvåg Fritid rents out apartments in sheltered surroundings in the near vicinity of the quayside. At the floating jetty you will find six rental boats and a roofed over fish gutting table. Each apartment also has a lockable store room for clothing and fishing tackle at your disposal, together with a 400 litre freezer. Very convenient when the fish start to bite …

Sør-Gjæslingan – a listed holiday paradise Sør-Gjæslingan is situated far out to sea near the infamous waters of Folla. In former times it was the biggest and most important fishing station south of Lofoten. Today, the island settlement is a listed holiday paradise where you can find peace and quiet in authentic surroundings. You can do as the fishermen do, and stay in charming fishermen’s cabins. Outside, you can enjoy the character and charm of the old fishing hamlet. In addition to the fisherman’s cabins the fish racks, fish landing station, manor house, shop, fisherman’s hostel, saltery and cod-liver oil refinery have all been preserved for posterity, allowing you to explore life as it was when the Vikna fishery was the main source of income among the people on the coast of Namdalen. Sør-Gjæslingan is accessible by express passenger boat from Namsos and Rørvik.

Inshore Fishing in Vikna – among 6000 isles At the restored trading post of Løvøen Gård, you can unwind in a maritime and historical atmosphere. With its 10 inviting apartments, Løvøen Gård is also a good starting point for adventures among Vikna’s 6000 isles, islets and skerries. This inshore Eldorado offers mighty nature experiences with its chalk white beaches, narrow straits and open waters. The archipelago is pure paradise for birdwatchers and also offers fantastic fishing. Each of the ten rental boats are equipped with modern navigational gear and echo sounders, making it easy to find the best fishing spots. You will get the best advice from the locals, who always know where the big ones bite. Cast off!

For wild rapids and beautiful waterfalls, head to the southern part. You will also find Norway’s only viable stock of Arctic foxes and other animals such as wolverine, lynx and bears. The hunting is largely dominated by ptarmigan and small game. With its alpine terrain and at times changeable weather conditions, Børgefjell is best suited to impassioned outdoor recreation enthusiasts. It is no coincidence that seasoned mountain lovers travel to Børgefjell to find the ultimate peace of mind.

Blåfjell and Skjækerfjella National Park – the realm of contrast Welcome to one of Norway’s biggest national parks. Welcome to fantastic hiking terrain with a unique flora and fantastic hunting. Welcome to the Blåfjell and Skjækerfjella mountains. The national park is known for its abundant stocks of ptarmigan and woodland game birds. Moose may also be hunted there. The local valleys and hillsides are the domain of red deer and roe deer, and with the help of your camera lens you may also find wolverine, lynx and bears within range. The area is also ideal for birdwatchers, providing the opportunity of observing wetland birds, birds of prey and owls. Large parts of the national park consist of low-lying mountains and otherwise benign terrain, and the wide range of marked trails there make Blåfjell and Skjækerfjella an excellent starting point for family outings. In contrast to this, we find Midtiklumpen, which towers up 1,333 metres above sea level. For those interested in long walks, it is good to know that there are a number of overnight accommodations in the park. The Ramblers’ Association place the self-service cabins Holden Fjellgård and Skjækerdalshytta at your disposal, and there are also a number of other possibilities for overnight stays.

The national park is characterized by low-lying, open mountainous areas, with the exception of the Hestkjølen mountain range, which reaches up to 1,300 metres above sea level. The varied landscape is the habitat of a number of different species of birds, particularly waders, ducks and divers. You may also observe dotterel, red-necked phalarope and long-tailed skua there. Moreover, due to its wilderness-like character, the area offers excellent conditions for species requiring sizeable territories such as wolverine, lynx and bears. Grongtur, Discover Grong – something for everyone Grongtur consists of 20 marked trails that make it easy to discover the magnificent and diverse countryside in the borough of Grong. There are routes here to suit everyone: Some of them are long, others short. Some of them are done on foot, while others are suitable for cycling or skiing. The Grongtur tour package consists of a pocket-size brochure showing the various routes on a map. There are also GPS coordinates, accounts of how to get to the starting points and a description of the routes themselves.

Tømmeråshøla – Norway’s most awesome natural bathing facility It is Mother Nature herself who is the architect behind what is possibly Norway’s finest open-air bathing facility. This distinctive bathing spot, Tømmeråshøla, is situated in the River Sanddøla, in the near vicinity of Grong town centre. You can frolic in the rapids here, or surrender to the flow down the spectacular slide which has been formed in the rock. Below the falls you can bathe and sunbathe in calmer surroundings

Canoeing in Grong With over 500 lakes and many rivers of varying sizes, Grong is an Eldorado for anyone wishing to experience serenity between the strokes of their oars. Many people choose Finnbursvatnet Fritidsområde or Brusvatnet when it comes to canoeing in magnificent natural surroundings. Both of these lakes are accessible by car and have been specially adapted for a day in the outdoors. Grong Leisure Centre (Grong fritidssenter) rents out a wide range of boats, canoes and buoyancy wear for anglers and other outdoor life enthusiasts

Small Game Hunting in Grong The extensive woodland and mountain areas of Grong make it an Eldorado for small game hunters. The borough is well organized into wilderness management groups, and you may also hunt on state-owned common ground. The diversity of nature here means that it should not take you long to find good hunting grounds for capercaillie, black grouse, willow and rock ptarmigan and hare. You and your friends can rent your own hunting grounds for a limited period of time in Grong, or simply purchase ordinary hunting permits.

Island Hopping by Bike along the Coast of Namdalen Explore wonderful and fascinating coastal nature at your own pace. On a bike, you can get very close to the chalky white beaches and crystal clear sea, the fresh green cultural landscapes and the exciting and diverse animal and bird life. Furthermore, the coast of Namdalen offers excellent scope for transport by express passenger boat, allowing you to adjust distances and destinations yourself. Along the way, you can visit attractions such as the Namdalen Museum, the Norwegian Sawmill Museum, the Rock City experience centre in Namsos, the spectacular Coastal Museum of Nord-Trøndelag – Norveg and the old trading post of Berggården in Rørvik. You can also experience the realm of author Olav Dunn on the idyllic island Jøa. We also recommend that you take the express boat to the listed fishing village of Sør-Gjæslingan before ending the trip on the unique island of Leka.

Kayaking on the Namdal Coast - in accord with the elements Slowly but surely, you glide silently across the seabed. The silence is broken only by your own strokes and the open sea booming in the distance. You paddle at your own pace through crystal clear waters, taking time to observe the marine life on the seabed. A sea eagle hovers over you and, if you are lucky, you will also spot otters, seals and whales. The many beaches, coastal rocks and sheltered coves are perfect for forays. The campfire soon crackles under the open sky, while the sun sinks towards the western horizon. It’s as if the Namdal Coast was specifically created for kayaking. Dramatic fjord landscapes, idyllic skerries or the mighty open sea – the choice is entirely up to you!

Unique Nature Experiences in Salen – virgin countryside Salen is an area of open countryside situated along the Salvassdraget watercourse. It stretches from the inland regions around Høylandet and out towards Salsnes in the west. Here, you will find a fantastic and diverse area practically untouched by human activity. Luxuriant valleys, lakes of all shapes and sizes and untamed mountains are linked together by a number of rivers. A visit to this magnificent area will allow you time and space to unwind and enjoy the outdoor life, undisturbed and at your own pace. Here, everyone can take pleasure in nature’s diversity. Why not take the children out into the country and provide them with experiences they will find hard to forget? The youngest can make their first attempts at paddling a kayak or a canoe across peaceful tarns. Perhaps you will catch a glimpse of a bull or cow moose looking after their calf as it rests in the grass. Salen is also an excellent starting point for hunting moose, roe deer, beaver and small game. The Utmarkscompagniet offers comprehensive nature adventures in the Salen area, including hunting and fishing rights and overnight accommodation in a number of specially adapted outlying farms.

Explore Ytre Namdal – powerful experiences on the coast of Namdalen How about paddling a kayak in the sunset as you follow the flow and feel the swell from the ocean? Want to wake up on an island in the sea and hear the cry of gulls and perhaps watch a white-tailed eagle catch fish? Would you like to climb higher up and look out across the fantastic isles and skerries and the Ytre Namdalen countryside? Or are you happy just listening to the crackling of the campfire on the banks of one of the many fishing lakes? What about a culinary experience on the beach prepared and served by one of Norway’s best chefs? Explore Ytre Namdal offers you all of this and more. The company tailors powerful and active adventure tours for groups of friends, businesses and other parties.

Join the Eagle Man among the Isles and Skerries of Flatanger Join the Eagle Man, Ole Martin Dahle, among the isles and skerries of Flatanger. Follow the shipping lanes that people have used as their main travelling route for hundreds of years. Watch the sun rise above the mountains in the east and enjoy the sight of it as it sinks into the waters of Folla. Your guide will help you discover the joys of life by the sea. Close contact with the white-tailed eagle will take your breath away. Seagulls will follow along, scrounging food which, of course, they are given. The Eagle Man loves gulls. You may also see porpoises frolicking about in pure joy, or swiftly hunting herring or some other small fish. The Eagle Man loves sharing his knowledge with his guests. One day or more will provide an experience that will stay lodged in your heart forever. Welcome to the coast of Namdal. Welcome to the realm of the Eagle Man. A journey you simply have to try.

Hanshelleren – a unique climbing paradise Flatanger is widely known for its sea eagle safaris and angling, but it’s now becoming world famous for another reason. Several of the world’s best climbers have become aware of Flatanger’s enormous natural climbing wall, the Hanshelleren cave. The massive overhang means the climbing surface always remains dry and free from moss. Several of the world’s best climbers have already travelled to Strøm in Flatanger to challenge themselves on one of the world’s toughest climbing routes – a so-called 9a route. But you don’t have to be a world-class climber to be attracted to Flatanger. There are now around 40 climbing routes of varying levels in the Hanshelleren cave, as well as more than 150 bouldering and climbing routes in the near vicinity. Moreover, there is a Via Ferrata – or “iron road” – where inexperienced climbers can try their hand at climbing. Using a cable and iron rungs, novices can climb 90 metres up a virtually virtual rock face. It’s hard to put the view from the top of islands, mountains and the open sea into words. You simply must experience it.

Leka – Norway’s national geology monument Leka, northernmost on the coast of Namdalen, is something quite unique. You will find distinctive mountain formations here that are unlike anything else in Norway. But Norway’s national geology monument has more to offer: You will find innumerable ancient monuments here after 10,000 years of human settlement, a uniquely beautiful cultural landscape, Norway’s biggest Viking burial mound and a wealth of myths and legends. Furthermore, the open sea and abundant fisheries make Leka an Eldorado for anglers from home and abroad, while sheltered coves and crystal clear waters invite you to paddle your kayak or canoe, or take a walk along the shore. Leka is also ideal for cycling in extremely varied surroundings. At Lekemøya Spiseri (eatery) you can hire a bike in addition to enjoying the region’s traditional fare in a distinctive and cosy environment. There is also an increasing number of overnight accommodations to choose from in Leka.

Marked hiking routes in Namdalen – accessible to everyone For many people, the actual journey is the main highlight. When you go hiking, you experience the nature in real time. Whether you hike alone or with family and friends, hiking is also a spiritual journey. When your pulse drops, you have time to reflect on the beauty of the nature. You feel small, yet infinitely large. Throughout Namdalen, hiking associations, sporting clubs and other outdoor recreation enthusiasts take care of an extensive network of marked hiking routes. Such routes provide many visitors with their first encounter of Namdalen as a true hiking paradise. The routes cover every municipality in Namdalen and include everything from summit hikes and longer hikes in the national parks to walks along historical paths or farm roads in the lush forests and valleys, all the way to the heathlands on the outer coast facing the open sea.

5: Li-Martnan Market – the genuine article At the Li-Martnan Market you can experience the original market atmosphere as it was in the days when local villagers met to exchange wares and a tall tale. Local culture together with proud handicraft and culinary traditions are at the heart of events. Furthermore, the youngsters can take part in a number of exciting and educational activities. Li-Martnan is arranged in Sørli from 28 - 30 July.

Pe-Torsa – complications and zaniness in Lierne The listed farm Oppgården in Kvelia sets the scene for the outdoor theatre performance and cultural festival Pe-Torsa. The plot takes place in the 1950s and revolves around Pe-Torsa, the mayor of Nordli Borough and the rather self-righteous owner and manager of Oppgården Farm. The play has been a massive box office success since the turn of the century, and every year the plot is developed by new intrigues and humorous capers. There is also considerable excitement with regard to who will be this year’s guest actor. Previously, Harald Heide-Steen jr., Elsa Lystad and Kristen Gislefoss have contributed towards fits of laughter among the audience.

Skjenkestova Pub in Skorovatn – an “Ale Dorado” The Skjenkestova in Skorovatn is one of Norway’s more distinctive pubs. Here, in scenic surroundings in the middle of the mountains, you will find over 500 brands of beer from all over the world. Skjenkestova also has one of the country’s best assortments of aquavit and malt whisky, and it is by no means a coincidence that people from all over the country travel to the Skjenkestova to learn more about the culture of food and drink. On the table we find home-made fare from the proprietor’s own production of smoked meats, in addition to a number of other delicacies from the local flora and fauna. A visit to Skjenkestova is also the perfect conclusion to your day after exploring the magnificent countryside in the Skorovasfjella mountains. There are a number of marked hiking trails in the area.

Namsskogan Family Park – close proximity to nature Namsskogan Family Park is one of Trøndelag’s top tourist attractions. You will find more than 30 different species of Nordic animals here, including wolverine, lynx, wolves and bears, in spacious and true-to-nature enclosures. For many people, close-up encounters with the big predators will create life-long memories. At Namsskogan Family Park you may also be fascinated by the interaction between children and animals at Barnas Seter – the children’s mountain farm. Namsskogan Family Park offers a wealth of fun and excitement for everyone between the ages of 1 and 100. Bumper boats, the awesome Alpineracer roller coaster, bungee trampolining, horseback riding, gold-digging and canoeing are just some of the activities that await you a stone’s throw away from the E6. The bravest among visitors always try the Tøffingtårnet – “Tough Guy Tower”: The climb ends with a 350 metre long zipline that carries you at high speed across a lake. Feeling adventurous? Young and old alike can test their skills in the climbing park. Your stomach may tingle and perhaps it’s a bit scary at times, but when you stand at the top and experience the joy of having done it you will feel victorious! With 36 obstacles at three levels, there will be plenty of challenges.

Grong Ski Centre – a paradise for active people Just by the E6 in Grong you will find Nord-Trøndelag’s biggest alpine skiing centre. Grong Skisenter has a total of 15 slopes of varying degrees of difficulty, 4 ski lifts and a dedicated skiing area for the children. There is also a snowboard park with halfpipe, quarterpipe, a cross-country piste and rails. The snowboard park and large parts of the alpine facility are floodlit. With Mount Geitfjellet (872 masl) as the main arena, there are unique winter opportunities here for those who enjoy slalom, snowboarding or Telemark skiing. Conditions are also excellent for those who prefer to don a rucksack and cross-country skis and set off into the mountains. The area offers more than 40 kilometres of prepared tracks in both mountains and forests surrounding Geitfjellet. During summer, marked trails ensures you a spectacular hiking experience. The Norwegian Revue Festival – fun in the country! In 1987 a handful of “village idiots” got together at Høylandet intent on arranging the first national revue festival in the history of Norway. Over the past 25 years the Norwegian Revue Festival has undergone a process of massive growth when it comes to participation and audience size – but the craziness, laughter, inspiration, and not least the rustic sing-along “håloinnsola”, are most certainly still intact. The next edition of this biennial festival will take place from 5-9 July 2017, including seven revue performances, a stand-up show, talks and a children’s revue. In the evenings a good, old-fashioned village dance will get your feet tapping and your spirits high. Overnight accommodation is offered at festival camp, newly mown and professionally prepared in honour of the occasion by the most excellent representatives of the local agricultural trade. Food and drink of all kinds will be available within the festival area.

The regional town Namsos – culture, nature and shopping At the mouth of the majestic Namsen river, you will discover Namsos - the pleasant little town with a big heart. Few towns have played such important roles in Norwegian music: To this day Namsos is a vibrant rock town and home to some of Norway’s most beloved artists. The past and present are both brought to life at Rock City – an experience centre dedicated to Norwegian pop and rock. Right next door is Scandic Rock City Hotel, the unique theme hotel that confirms the town’s status as the rock capital of Norway. You can enjoy a good night’s sleep in a guitar-shaped bed! At the hotel’s restaurant, you can dine on dishes inspired by local cuisine while admiring beautiful views of the Namsensfjord. Explore Namsos with good friends or your loved ones. Visit the shops, taste the locally produced and delicious food from both sea and land. Discover Oasen, Northern Europe’s largest swimming complex inside a mountain and then be inspired in the town’s galleries and museums. Experience known and unknown artists at the many concerts held at the town’s various music venues. Find peace strolling along streets and in the surrounding nature. With a river, fjord and a network of marked trails, memorable nature-based experiences are never more than a stone’s throw away.

Rock City – the home of Trøndelag rock How did a saw milling town in Namdalen become a home of rock music? You will find out when you visit the Rock City experience centre in Namsos. Step back into the typical boys’ room of the ‘70s, where music engages in all aspects of life and take a leap into the sphere of the songwriter in Hans Rotmo’s apartment and Åge’s universe. See if you have what it takes to be a songwriter then test your text and tones in the studio. The result may be worth sending home? You can hear Åge’s songs, but after visiting the studio you can share your tour experience with others and test your song where it really matters: on stage. Along the way, you will become better acquainted with other aspects of the broad history of Trøndelag rock and you can learn, play and maybe discover that the impossible is possible.

Namsosmartnan Market – public festivities in the City of Rock Namsosmartnan combines trade, fun and powerful cultural events with a view to creating public festivities in the regional capital. In addition to the extensive market, you can enjoy theatre performances, visit exhibitions and go to concerts with some of our most famous and popular musicians. The fun fair is also a safe bet for all the families visiting Namsos during the market. Popular Norwegian artists will guarantee a festive atmosphere in the evenings. Here in the cradle of the Trønder Rock genre you will, of course, also experience a number of local performers who contribute towards making the Namsos of today a prominent city of culture. Namsosmartnan is arranged from 17 - 19 August.

The Norwegian Sawmill Museum – a journey back in time Spillum Dampsag & Høvleri (steamsaw & planing mill), just south of Namsos, is the country’s only major listed steamsaw mill, and one of fourteen technicalindustrial cultural monuments of national importance in Norway. The Norwegian Sawmill Museum (Norsk Sagbruksmuseum) has preserved Spillum Dampsag & Høvleri as a time bubble where visitors travel back in time to the late 1800s. From time to time the old saw and planning mill are put into operation, thus helping create an authentic atmosphere. When visiting the sawmill museum you can choose between taking a tour on your own, or joining a guided tour of the production premises.

Namdal Museum – a fascinating presentation Want to learn more about Namdal’s eventful cultural history? The Namdal Museum is situated just outside of Namsos town centre, and consists of 24 buildings and over 13,000 exhibits and photographs. The Kolvereiddagene Festival – big atmosphere, small town Kolvereid is Norway’s smallest city, but this doesn’t affect the breadth of activity there when societies, associations and trade and industry present their work in the district’s longest market street in Kolvereid town centre. Most important, however, is the creation of an arena where people can congregate and enjoy themselves – whether it’s at a dance with well-known musicians, a show for the whole family, the fun fair, or at one of the many stalls on Sentrumsgata street. During the Kolvereiddagene Festival there will also be a Quiz, a political debate and Norway’s one and only binocular football tournament.

Namdal Landhandel General Store – local and appetizing At Namdal Landhandel, the general store in Kolvereid, they live and breathe for local fare and small-scale produce. Here, you will find locally made meat products, juice, fruit, vegetables, fish, beer, cheese, honey and chocolate, all from Mid Norway. And lots, lots more. This is how the tiny country shop in Norway’s smallest city makes its own contribution towards promoting the local culinary culture. Namdal Landhandel also offers a fascinating assortment of antiques and can also boast of having its own dressmaker’s shop and studio. Welcome to a shopping experience that will last for a long time after you have left the premises.

Rørvikdagan Festival – top-notch musical experiences Take a trip to Rørvik in July and enjoy good, old-fashioned market atmosphere and coastal culture in combination with top-notch musical experiences. The idyllic Pollen in the town centre will be converted into a concert arena for thousands of music lovers when some of Norway’s most popular bands and artists take centre stage. The Rørvikdagan Festival is also the place to experience new and exciting artists and local performers. The Rørvikdagan Festival also has a lot to offer for the younger audience. Each year the festival attracts some of Norway’s most popular children’s entertainers, much to the delight of their young fans. The sought-after festival passes for the 2017 edition are already on sale. First in, first served!

Norveg – a beacon of coastal culture The distinctive design of the Norveg coastal culture centre sends out a signal that the coastal town of Rørvik has zestful coastal culture as its foremost trademark. Here, you can learn about the main trends of our history and about how proximity to the sea and its resources has formed Norway as a nation – since the first inhabitants followed the receding edge of the glacier northwards, up until todays opportunities and challenges as one of the world’s leading seafood nations. At Norveg you can, for instance, learn more about modern aquaculture by following the journey from sea cage to the table. Don’t miss the old trading post at Berggården, or the other historical buildings in Rørvik town centre that contribute towards the indisputable charm of this small coastal town. You might even meet up with Pernille the maid, or Johan Berg himself, who will take you 100 years back in time. In such a way, you will gain an insight into life in this coastal town and the development of Rørvik as the hub of activity on the busy Nærøysundet strait.

The Skrei Festival – a tribute to coastal culture Late every winter something magical occurs in the sea off the shores of Namdalen. Millions of skrei – a variety of Norwegian cod sustainably fished while in its prime – congregate on the spawning grounds intent on ensuring the survival of the species. At the same time the communities on the Vikna islands become a hive of activity, since cod has formed the basis for all trade and settlement here since time immemorial. The Skrei Festival is a tribute to coastal culture, while at the same time presenting the biggest cod fishery south of Lofoten. During the Skrei Festival you can join a trip to idyllic Vandsøya and sample the atmosphere at a fish landing station far out at sea. In Rørvik you can stroll around the pleasant market street and perhaps find a bargain among all the providers of traditional handicrafts. You can also buy locally caught cod, liver and roes here at very reasonable prices. Be sure to try the award-winning fishcakes from Rørvik, you won’t regret it. The Skrei Festival also offers a number of cultural events, and, of course, skrei served in both traditional and more innovative ways. The Skrei Festival 2017 takes place 23 - 26 March.
