The story of Pärnu resort begins already in 19th of century. In 1838 the first bathing house opened its doors. The visitors could enjoy warm sea baths in summer and the pleasures of sauna in winter. Soon after the opening of the first bathing house the city beaches, parks, holiday and medical facilities and guest house villas were established.

In 1890, Pärnu was listed as being officially the Russian imperial resort and the ambitions of the city as a resort gained momentum. Thanks to Pärnu`s increasing focus on sun and social activities, its fame grew in 1920s and the city developed into the one of the most popular holiday and health resorts in Estonia. This was the reason for expanding the resort area of the city with new guest houses, summer villas, large parks, beach pavilion and outdoor band stage. Besides the treatment procedures the holidaymakers were enjoying the colourful social life with music and dancing.

In the past the majority of resort guests came from Germany and Russia. Nowadays Pärnu has become one of the favourite destinations of Scandinavians.

Pärnu is the most beloved and the biggest seaside resort in Estonia. It has a great location, smooth sand beach, fresh air, green parks and high quality relaxation and medical facilities. Recently Pärnu was granted with the title of summer capital of Estonia.

Healing resort The good health is achieved through hundreds of different activities in Pärnu.

Summer beach is full of happy voices of people, enjoying the sun and the sea.

Water sport facilities and the children’s favourite fountains and playgrounds are guaranteed to satisfy the expectations of whole family. Morning exercise, aerobics on the beach and dances at night make it all even better.

Pärnu, the city of the sea and the river, is the right place if you love water. Yachts, canoes, motorboats and other water vehicles are taking you to sea with local experienced sailors on wheel. You can explore the many different ways to have fun on water in Pärnu. All you have to do is rent a water board, water skis, water tube or try some other water related activities to get an adrenalin rush.

The famous Estonian rowers train here. Pärnu is also the home and the training place of Jüri Jaanson – the world champion and the winner of Olympic silver medal. The great training facilities of Pärnu Yacht Club are preparing the young generation of sailors. The Yacht Club is the place where everyone can learn about sailing.

In the green city of Pärnu the tennis courts, well taken care of, are attracting players all through summer. In winter the sports halls are a convenient alternative. You can play squash, badminton, or pool and go bowling here.

If you prefer slower tempo, then Pärnu parks have all you need. There are recently renovated Vallikääru Park, Beach Park and many others. Pärnu is a green city. The trails of the Green River Land are connected to the Pärnu River. The heart of the River Land is Soomaa, where we miraculously have a fifth season – the season of floods. Soomaa is a member of PAN Parks Network connecting the 11 most important and best nature reserve parks. Soomaa, the kingdom of bogs is perfect for recreational walks on the wooden paths placed all over the Soomaa. As a bonus you will have the particularly fresh air of the bog for a companion. While on the hiking trail we suggest you reach out your hand and pick up a vitamin bomb – the red cranberry. There are also other ways to restore your health – by walking on bog-shoes, taking a kick sledge ride or by sliding down the water ways on a canoe or log boat. Fresh air and the beautiful nature can also be enjoyed on dog sled rides and sledge rides.
