WINE & CHEESE TASTING

553 Vees Drive, Penticton, BC (Corner of Eckhardt & Hwy 97) 250-490-2006 www.pentictonwineinfo.com pentwineinfo

1. Looks Matter: The colour of wine is an indicator of grape varietal and quality. Grab a white napkin and hold it to the glass to admire the colour before you have a drink.

3. Use your nose: Smell your wine after you aerate it as it will change the nose. 4. Taste: Be sure to enjoy the wine. Note: Spittoons are a common sight in most wineries and it is polite to use one while tasting multiple wines to avoid drinking too much.

Safety First: Ensure you have a designated driver or hire a tour company to drive you to the wineries.

2. Let it breath: Aerate the wine by swirling it in your glass before you drink.

WINE TOURING TIPS

@pentwineinfo

D i s c o v e r

Call Ahead: Book tours and tastings at the wineries in advance, especially in the busier summer months. Storage: Ensure you have a cooler to store your wine as it could spoil in your vehicle in the heat. Dine: Stop at one of the many winery restaurants and enjoy a snack, appetizer or a full meal. Explore More: Stop in at the Visitor’s Centre to pick up maps and get info on wine tour companies

Join us for an exceptional tasting experience in our vineyard lounge. Immerse yourself in our terroir while enjoying a full flight of our hand-crafted wines. Seated tastings available daily year round by appointment during Summer to avoid disappointment and by drop-in the rest of the year.

Open Daily 10 AM to 6 PM May through October 11 AM to 5 PM November through April. Visit our website for seasonal events details.

VINEYARDS

WINE 101 While spending time at the tasting bar, you will hear all kinds of “wine speak” being thrown around, here are a few terms translated.

PICNIC ON OUR PATIO 1010 Tupper Ave Penticton, BC

Acidic: They taste zesty or sour and have a sharp edge on the palate. Think of acidity like a squirt of lemon. Aging: The word for keeping wines in barrels, tanks, and bottles so as to improve the taste and flavor of wine over time. Aroma: What you smell in the glass. By swirling the glass this allows the wine to interact with the air and makes it easy to sniff out the notes on the tasting sheet. Bouquet: No, they are not offering you flowers. This term refers to the scent of the wine, which is often more than just a singular thing.

EVERY VINEYARD HAS A STORY

Blend: A wine made from more than one varietal.

www.monstervineyards.com

DIVE INTO OUR TASTING ROOM

Finish: The sense of texture and flavor that linger in mouth after the wine is tasted. Tannins: Extracted from the grape skins and stems, tannins describe the bitter, drying sensation you feel in your mouth after tasting certain wines.

Terrior: Where the grapes are grown; includes the soil, climate, weather, all aspects of the vineyards and anything else that can possibly differentiate one piece of land from another. Veraison: Term for when the grapes change colour from green to deep purple for red wines or golden and pink for white grapes. Wine drinkers get quite excited about this as it means that harvest and crush are approaching. Vintage: It refers to the year the grapes were harvested and the wine was bottled.
