...to Flavour Fest 2019! Now in its 16th year, Flavour Fest is the biggest food and drink festival in the South West, attracting more than 100,000 visitors to Plymouth. 2

Whether it’s locally baked goods, a regional cider, a delicious sweet treat, or simply taking in the sights, sounds and smells, Flavour Fest has something for everyone and we are looking forward to a fantastic three days. Great British Bake Off fans are in for a treat this year as we have an appearance from the 2015 winner, Nadiya Hussain who will be cooking up a storm in the in the Cookery Theatre on Saturday 1 June at 12pm & 2:30pm.

This year also sees the return of the Continental Market, stretching from Place de Brest to the Sundial, featuring a wide variety of food and drink from around the world. If your feet need a rest from exploring all the stalls, head for the street food area where you can take a seat and enjoy a range of freshly cooked foods, from paella, to freshly made waffles or even a cocktail. If you are with some budding little chefs, head for the Kids’ Kitchen provided by CATERed which will feature a packed programme of workshops, all free of charge.

The popular Cookery Theatre will be open from 10am until 5pm each day, featuring local Then on Sunday 2 June Steven Carter-Bailey, and celebrity chefs sharing tips of the trade. the runner-up in the eighth series of the show, On behalf of Plymouth City Centre Company, will be appearing on stage at 1pm. We are delighted that Nadiya Hussain the 2015 Great British Bake Off Winner will be appearing in the Cookery Theatre on Saturday 1 June at 12pm and 2:30pm. Nadiya will be available to sign a range of her cookery books at 1pm at our information point next to the Cookery Theatre.

Chris & James Tanner Peter Gorton Barbican Kitchen

Since the inception of their first establishment the Tanner brothers have continued their success as stars on the small screen when they broadened their talents to film their own 15 part TV series The Tanner Brothers. They’re creators of inspiring cook books: For Chocolate Lovers, Ice Cream (Small Book of Good Taste), Take Five Ingredients. Chris with his brother James operates the Barbican Kitchen on Southside Street and also a gourmet pub, The Kentish Hare, Royal Tunbridge Wells.

Consultant and celebrity chef Peter Gorton, a Masterchef of Great Britain, is one of the bestknown chefs in the south west of England. Peter began his culinary career in 1980 at the age of 16 and trained at some of the finest restaurants in the UK and around the world. Peter has many years of Michelin Star experience and provides consultancy services to hotels and restaurants. He also runs a very successful outside catering business.

‘Ted’ is the Executive Chef at Crowne Plaza Plymouth and enjoying the views from the Marco Pierre White restaurant! Ted has previously worked for the Royal Crescent Hotel in Bath and the Manor House in Castle Combe. For the last 9 years, he has been working at Buckland Tout-Saints in Goveton as Head Chef gaining 2 rosettes. Ted’s passion is cooking, but his aspiration is to pass his knowledge on to his staff, training them and enthusing them into this industry.

Ben Palmer holds an array of awards and years of experience in the kitchen, as well as being the owner and head chef of The Greedy Goose.

Nadiya Hussain won the 2015 Great British Bake Off. Since winning, Nadiya has presented a plethora of programmes for BBC including The Chronicles of Nadiya, Nadiya’s Asian Odyssey, Nadiya’s British Food Adventure and Nadiya’s Family Favourites.

In the summer of 2016, Exeter Cookery School opened its doors to foodies of all ages, tastes and abilities. On the menu is a range of dishes from across the world, from pasta making to bread baking and from cheese making to authentic Indian curry courses, allowing you to cherry-pick the course that suits you. Uniquely, each cookery course is packed with cheffy tips, tricks and techniques, honed in busy restaurant kitchens, but adapted to use in your home and designed to make cooking for family and friends easy and stress-free.

The Greedy Goose

A quarter-finalist in MasterChef: The Professionals 2011, Ben runs the Greedy Goose Restaurant situated within the oldest building in Plymouth. Ben is also Chef Patron of the award winning Glazebrook House Hotel in South Brent. His food style is modern British with a passion for keeping it local and big on flavour.

Her cookery books and books for children have reached bestseller status and she regularly writes for media including The Times and has featured in the BBC’s 100 Most Influential Women list.

Cornwall College Saltash’s Hospitality & Catering Department is managed by Chris Penk. We have been awarded 3 Centres of Excellence, Gold Accreditation and an AA Highly Recommended College Rosette, making us one of the best catering colleges in the South West. We are delighted with the recent investment that has been made into our campus with the development of Dynnargh restaurant, adding fantastic opportunities for those learners wishing to achieve internationally recognised qualifications in the Hospitality and Professional Cookery industry.

Steven Carter-Bailey was the runner-up in the eighth series of the Great British Bake Off, going on to win The Great New Year Bake Off in 2019.

Richard is a Plymouth born chef, he studied through a work based apprenticeship at St. Mellion Golf and country club.

Since his time on the show, he has travelled around the UK appearing at food festivals and acting as a roving food reporter for ITV London News, as well as teaching classes at Leith’s School of Food and Wine.

The Treasury

After a brief spell working in local restaurants he joined the Royal Fleet auxiliary in 2003. After 11 years he left the service as a leading chef and took up the role of head chef in his home village of Buckland Monachorum’s Drake Manor Inn. He joined The Treasury in 2015 as head chef to a kitchen team of five, and created a new modern British/ European menu which has proven very popular.

Ed’s Super Fantastic Foodie Workshops

This year we will be running interactive children engagement sessions throughout the 3 days of Flavour Fest. Starting at 10.30am until 3pm daily on Friday 31st May, Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June in Plymouth City Centre we will be running one hour food and cookery sessions. Kids can get hands on making fresh fruit smoothies, vegetable griddle cakes and dips, have a go at making their own sausages and fish cakes. Staff will be on hand to talk about how we are reducing sugar in our school meals and the steps we have taken to remove plastics from lunches. We’ll be in the Children’s Engagement Marquee right next to the Sundial. Foundation to KS3 children are welcome to come enjoy a session. Younger children can participate but we ask that parents remain with their children.

Our second artisan café situated at Ocean Studios in picturesque Royal William Yard has recently been refreshed. Plymouth Market is a haven for foodies, with an incredible range of cuisines to try. This contemporary, independent restaurant specialises in authentic Persian food, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options on offer. Enjoy hearty portions with kebabs, grills and traditional starters like falafel, hummus and tabbouleh on the menu.

Samphire Brasserie

On the edge of the city centre, Samphire Brasserie’s food is influenced by American cuisine, and everything is completely vegan! Tuck into plant-based burgers, pizza and ‘phish and chips’ – even meat eaters will be happy.

Lisbon Bakery

Located in Frankfort Gate, Lisbon Bakery brings the flavours of Portugal to Plymouth. Pop in for a coffee and a delicious pastry – their pastel de natas are really popular – or indulge in a traditional Portugese dish.


Positano
