A visit to the Wadden Sea Centre is like a journey through the unique landscape of the Wadden Sea in the company of millions of migratory birds.

Aesthetically and in terms of content, the exhibitions are of international standard, offering a huge amount of information about the Wadden Sea and the world of migratory birds, plus an understanding of the cultural history of the area and the challenges of living there. All enlivened and enriched by natural objects, activities, living images and the most modern technology.

The Wadden Sea Centre is the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Wadden Sea, a natural introduction to the area for anyone, whether just visiting the centre or combining a visit with one of the many guided tours.

The Fisheries and Maritime Museum, Esbjerg, is Denmark’s museum about the sea - people’s relationship with it, the culture surrounding it, and life beneath its surface.

Offshore - Experience our large offshore exhibition, which gives you a fantastic glimpse of everything from oil and gas extraction to what life is like on an oil rig. The seals - Come close to the common seal and Denmark’s largest predator, the grey seal, and watch them being fed and trained. You’ll also see the great skeletons of stranded whales.

Embark on a journey beneath the surface in the Saltwater Aquarium and meet everything from corals and jellyfish to the North Sea’s large predatory fish. Stroke a Small-Spotted Catshark in our petting pool.

The Wadden Sea offers many delicacies, and both flora and fauna can be harvested with a bit of effort, glasswort, seagrass, shrimp, mussels and perhaps the most prestigious of them all - oysters.

The large Pacific oysters that live in the Wadden Sea are found everywhere, but you have to know exactly where they are, be aware of the tides and be able to know good oysters from bad ones.

We recommend taking one of the many guided tours organised throughout the season. Culinary experiences are of many kinds, but nothing beats consuming a newly-opened oyster out in the stunning landscape of the Wadden Sea.
