Ribe Art Museum was established in 1891 and provides the setting for an internationally recognised collection of Danish art, including works by C.W. Eckersberg, Christen Købke, Hammershøi, P. S. Krøyer, L.A. Ring and both Anna and Michael Ancher. The collection tells the story of art in Denmark over two hundred years.
In addition to the permanent collection, Ribe Art Museum collaborates nationally and internationally to arrange special exhibitions, attracting the work of recognised artists every year. The museum is housed in a magnificent mansion, quite worth a visit for its own sake, and the cafeteria offers appetizers, beer, water, wine as well as coffee and cakes. The museum garden is a public park, which can be visited from 09.00 to sunset.

Esbjerg’s Art Museum uses engaging methods to disseminate contemporary art. Like the city itself, the museum focuses on innovation, bringing children and adults into direct contact with art. No dry teaching here, but learning by experiment and being inspired to get personally involved - in the aesthetics laboratory or in the award-winning Wunderkammer, where art interacts with science.
Esbjerg Art Museum makes art a total aesthetic experience at the intersection of music and visual art, in the scent installation, ”Wittgenstein’s Garden”, and the open stores where you can explore the museum’s collection for yourself. The museum focuses on modern and contemporary art and contains one of Denmark’s most prestigious collections, including works by Asger Jorn, Tomas Saraceno, Olafur Eliasson, Nina Saunders, and Ann Lislegaard.

Fanø Art Gallery is housed in a building from 1868, formerly used as a grocery and ship’s provisions store. From 1992 it has served as a museum exhibiting works of art from around 1850 until today. The first artists to visit the island were the marine painters C.F. Sørensen, and Viggo Faurholdt.
Towards the end of the 1870’s popular life and the island’s traditions were depicted by Julius Exner. In the early 20th century Sigvard Hansen, N.P.Mols and August Wilckens began to visit the island, as well as the internationally orientated Johan Rohde. Subsequently, symbolists and art noveau painters like Heinrich Dohm, C.J.Forsberg and Jacob Nøbbe appeared. In the 30’s Reinhard Heinemann, Elsa Nøbbe, Anne Marie Hansen settled here.
In the mid-century Lili Ege, Ruth Heinemann and Helle Monies spent much of their time painting in Sønderho. Today Finn Hjortskov, Marie Louise Exner and Marco Brodde continue the legacy.
