In 1941, the state legislature designated Shawnee as Oklahoma’s “Redbud City.” Redbud Trees can be found blooming throughout the community in the spring.

Attractions CITIZEN POTAWATOMI NATION (CPN) CULTURAL HERITAGE CENTER
This 36,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility houses the CPN museum collection, library, Veterans’ Wall of Honor, Event Center, Potawatomi Lifeways exhibit, archives, genealogical research facility, language classes, and a recording site for the Tribal Heritage Productions. The Long Room is used for special events, and also features various exhibits. The Cultural Heritage Center is also home to the Bourbannais’ Cabin, built by original Potawatomi settlers. It was the first home built in “Shawneetown” prior to the land run. CITIZEN POTAWATOMI NATION EAGLE AVIARY
Home to over a dozen bald eagles and several other bird species, the Eagle Aviary provides a permanent home for eagles that have sustained injuries serious enough that they cannot live in the wild. Visitors will learn about the spiritual and cultural significance of these majestic animals, and have an opportunity to view them up close. MABEE-GERRER MUSEUM OF ART
Home to Oklahoma’s only ancient Egyptian mummies, the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is one of the oldest museums in Oklahoma. The museum’s collections include Egyptian, Greek, and Roman artifacts; art from the Middle Ages and Renaissance through the early twentieth century; and large holdings of Native American, African, Oceanic, and eastern cultural artifacts, and continues on through the modern era. OKLAHOMA VETERANS MEMORIAL
Located in Woodland Park, the Shawnee Veteran Memorial is a tribute to the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for American freedom. The layout of the memorial is patterned after a fivepoint star with each point representing a branch of the military. A 1965 Korean War-era Huey helicopter is one of the most recognizable wartime helicopters, and is proudly mounted above the memorial. The most recent addition to the park is a ten-panel granite wall which is inscribed with the names of every known Oklahoman killed in action since the Spanish-American War. Just south of Highland on Broadway St.
POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY MUSEUM
Located in the Santa Fe Depot, the Pottawatomie County Museum provides a glimpse into the county’s history at this turn-of-the-century landmark. Built in 1904, the building operated as a train depot until the 1970s. Now it houses an eclectic collection of artifacts and information about Pottawatomie County. Items on display include a stuffed grizzly bear, player piano, antique phones, railroad memorabilia, several model train sets, and a scale model of downtown Shawnee.

SHAWNEE HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI MUSEUM
Come relive your glory days at the Shawnee High School Alumni Museum. Memorabilia from various decades is on display, including items from famous Shawnee natives, astronaut Gordon Cooper (class of ‘45) and former Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry (class of ‘81). FIRELAKE GOLF COURSE
Rated one of the top ten daily fee golf courses in Oklahoma, FireLake offers a challenging course for golfers of all skill levels. Amenities include a putting green, driving range, snack bar, restaurant area, meeting space, and pro-shop. The golf course is open year round, weather permitting, and is the only public golf course in Shawnee. FireLake Golf has been closed the past year and a half while undergoing an extensive renovation. SCISSORTAIL SKYDIVING
If you are looking for an adrenaline rush then look no further than Scissortail Skydiving – the only United States Parachute Association Group Member in central Oklahoma. Located at the Shawnee Airport, Scissortail Skydiving is the perfect place for first time jumpers and the closest place to Oklahoma City that offers tandem jumping. SHAWNEE AIRPORT TRACK
This trail features a ten foot wide, divided path that allows for running and cycling, and circles most of the Shawnee Airport. One complete lap is 3.21 miles or roughly 5 kilometers. The entrance to the track includes a reflection park and pavilion (dedicated to Shawnee’s sister city, Nikaho, in Japan), and there is also a workout station which has basic equipment (like a chin up bar) and soft mulch all over the ground. Parking is located at Legacy and Airport Drive.

SHAWNEE TWIN LAKES
Visitors to the Twin Lakes (simply named Lake 1 and Lake 2) can enjoy a variety of water recreation including fishing, swimming, water skiing, and launch sites for personal watercraft. Amenities available at Shawnee Twin Lakes include boat ramps, boat docks, a fishing dock, tent campsites, picnic areas, grills, restrooms, a playground, and pavilion. SHAWNEE WATER PARK
Beat the summer heat at the Shawnee Water and Splash Park, a kid friendly attraction located in Woodland Park. The water and splash park amenities include pools, splash pads, climbing walls, and concessions. Regional Attractions NATIONAL SHRINE OF THE INFANT JESUS OF PRAGUE
People from around the world have come to view the shrine since it opened in the mid-1900s. Visiting the church offers visitors an opportunity to learn about the history and meaning behind the shrine. Each month, a Novena of prayers is offered on the nine days from the 17th to the 25th. PRAGUE HISTORICAL MUSEUM
The Prague Historical Museum has an extensive collection of artifacts that shares the details of the area’s history dating back as far as 1891. Prague, the birthplace of famous Olympian Jim Thorpe, also boasts a rich Czechoslovakian history and was named after Prague, Czechoslovakia. JASMINE MORAN CHILDREN’S MUSEUM
Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum features 37,000 square feet of indoor exhibit space and provides visitors with hours of interactive play. An outdoor play area, complete with a train and a 12,000 square foot castle maze, are inviting to kids of all ages. Also featured are exhibits on healthcare and science. Local Theatre
THE RITZ PERFORMING ARTS SOCIETY
Built in 1897, the Ritz Theatre is the oldest facility of its type in the state of Oklahoma. Originally a dry goods store, it opened in 1912 as a theatre by Leo Montgomery, Sr. The Ritz, then called “The Cozy” was sold to Jake Jones, Sr., in 1913. In 1926, the theatre was renamed The Ritz and Shawnee’s first talking motion pictures were shown. SHAWNEE LITTLE THEATRE
Shawnee’s award-winning community theatre produces four plays each season between September and May. Productions vary from dramas to musicals, but no matter the genre, guests are certain to enjoy a quality show. All productions are performed on the unique three quarter round stage in a 200 seat auditorium. With just five rows of seats surrounding the stage, every seat is a good seat. All ages are welcome.
