OFFICIAL TRADE GUIDE 2023

QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA

ACKNOWLEDGMENT

Visit Sunshine Coast acknowledges the Sunshine Coast Country, home of the Kabi Kabi peoples and the Jinibara peoples, the Traditional Custodians, whose lands and waters we all now share. We wish to pay respect to their Elders – past, present and emerging, and acknowledge the important role First Nations people continue to play within the Sunshine Coast community.

KINGS BEACH CALOUNDRA

From the CEO

Thank you for your interest in promoting the Sunshine Coast.

With a richness of attractions and activities across the Sunshine Coast we have created this guide to help you curate the best Sunshine Coast itineraries for your clients.

We have good reason to be confident that they will love their visit to the Sunshine Coast, as the ‘Sunny Coast’ (as we call it) has been named in the top three ‘Most Loved Destinations in the World’ in the last two years running according to the Tourism Index Sentiment, a rating based on more than 1.8 billion online conversations.

Whilst I may be biased, there’s plenty of reasons to justify the ‘most loved’ acclaim. The Sunshine Coast really brings out the sunshine in everyone who lives or visits here. The glistening beaches and ocean are within sight of the airport, and as you disembark from your plane, it’s so easy to switch into relaxation mode and immerse yourself in our wonderful natural playground.

Travellers today rightfully demand authenticity and sustainability when they consider a premium destination. The fact that the Sunshine Coast is the only place in the world where you’ll find three UNESCO Biosphere

Reserves sitting side by side reflects our commitment to the highest levels of environmental responsibility and sustainability.

But what we really love to do is to constantly surprise and delight our visitors with a richness and diversity of experiences that go far beyond our exceptional beaches and sunshine. We offer world class touring, adventure, and wellness experiences along with an artisanal food and drink scene that includes our newly minted claim to fame as Australia’s Craft Beer Capital. With 21 breweries and a growing range of creative distilleries, every hour feels like happy hour!

The Sunshine Coast offers a comprehensive range of trade ready attractions and activities, complemented by renowned boutique accommodation and premium events. These are all covered in this new planner, along with a collection of suggested itineraries to help you create memorable travel experiences for your clients.

We look forward to welcoming them to the Sunshine Coast.

THE HINTERLAND

Welcome to our leafy backyard: the Hinterland! Packed with postcard perfect villages, lush national parks and rainforest retreats. There are few places in Australia where you can traverse an array of ancient volcanic peaks - we’re talking more than 25 million years old - all before breakfast. But here, in the Glass House Mountains, there are 11 to explore. You’ll want to carve out some time in villages like Maleny, Montville and Mapleton where the streets are lined with cafés slinging local produce and epic art galleries, as well as Kenilworth, a little country town packing a whole lot of charm. At night, fall asleep to the sound of the rainforest in your tranquil retreat – bliss.

MUDJIMBA

With a sunny laidback vibe and quality waves, the Sunshine Coast is a worldclass surfers’ playground. If you are after more of an adrenaline rush, soar over the glassy ocean on a jet ski or hydrofoil, or set a slower pace paddling through our crystal clear waters on a kayak.

From June to October, swim alongside the majestic humpback whales with the crew at Sunreef Mooloolaba or, if you prefer to keep your feet dry, jump aboard one of the many whale watching

vessels. If snorkelling is more your thing, Mudjimba Island, accessible by boat, is the place to swim alongside the island’s locals - dolphins, turtles, stingrays, crayfish, wobbegongs, eels and starfish. Discover one of the best dive wreck sites in Australia, the Ex-HMAS Brisbane. Further north, Wolf Rock dive site is the only known gestation site for Grey Nurse Sharks on Australia’s East Coast and has been classified as a marine sanctuary.

Remember...

Listen to the advice of the surf lifesavers and always swim between the red and yellow flags. For upto-date beach conditions go to beachsafe.org.au.

FOOD & DRINK

ANY FOODIE WORTH THEIR FORK KNOWS THAT THE SUNSHINE COAST’S CULINARY SCENE IS A TASTE-BUD TANTALISER.

FRESH SEAFOOD

Did you know that Mooloolaba is one of the busiest seafood ports on Australia’s eastern seaboard? Early each morning you’ll see fleets of trawlers bringing in boatloads of swordfish, Mooloolaba prawns, Spanner crabs, lobsters and export grade tuna.

FARM TO FORK

If you wonder just what goes on beyond the farm gate, take part in a Farm to Fork tour, visit a winery or embark on a factory tour.

CAFÉS & RESTAURANTS

With so much fresh local produce at their fingertips, it’s little wonder the

Sunshine Coast has such a thriving café and restaurant culture. Here chefs are spoiled for choice, and the end result is a slew of award-winning eateries.

CRAFT BEER AND DISTILLERIES

The Sunshine Coast has more craft breweries per capita than any state or territory in Australia. At last count more than 21 independent brewers have set up shop on the Sunshine Coast. Here brewers like to go paddock to pint, taking inspiration in their surroundings and working with local producers to create their award winning tipples. If you’re after something a little stronger, we also have our fair share of distillers creating delicious gins, vodka and rum.

Emily's top tips

Dig into a donut from Kenilworth Donuts and take your tastebuds to new heights!

No trip to the Sunshine Coast is complete without a climb up Mt Ngungun. Easily one of the best spots to get snap happy on the coast!

The Sunshine Coast Collective markets are my go to for local creations and gifts. Featuring crafts, pottery, jewellery and clothing from Sunshine Coast creators.

For a real taste of the Sunshine Coast, a visit to Sunshine and Sons is a must do! Try their Pineapple Parfait gin, a homeage to the Big Pineapple.

Lastly, there is no better thing to do on the Sunshine Coast than to start the day with a sunrise walk on one of our 44 beaches.

beth's top tips

Paddle over to Bribie Island via kayak or paddle board and experience untapped beaches and maybe be lucky enough to see Kangaroos on the beach.

Sit at the top of the hill at Point Cartwright and watch the boats coming into Mooloolaba, following by fish and chips at the spit.

My favourite cool off spot in the Hinterland is Gardeners Falls, sit on the edge and watch for hours.

Any afternoon is a good afternoon for a drink at a local brewery, Moffat Beach Brewery is a perfect beachside afternoon stop, or any one of the 21 Sunshine Coast Breweries.
