Welcome

TO YOUR GUIDE TO THE SUNSHINE COAST!

This guide has been carefully curated for you, the travel trade, to act as your trusty sidekick in planning a visit to the Sunshine Coast - a place that is sunny by name and sunny by nature!

On the Sunshine Coast, we invite visitors to find their very own sunshine moment. To give you an idea of what that looks like, my Sunshine Moment is an early morning stroll barefoot along Mooloolaba beach with a coffee in hand.

A sunshine moment can happen for anyone, anytime, anywhere. From strolling along one of our 44 golden

beaches at sunrise or taking in the breathtaking views of the ancient volcanic Glass House Mountains at sunset, to meeting one of 900 local producers and makers who call the Sunshine Coast home or exploring one of the ten coastal communities providing a welcome akin to a big warm hug. It leaves our visitors beaming from the inside out!

Living on the Sunshine Coast, I feel incredibly lucky to call this stunning destination home. I relish being able to swim at a pristine beach with my family and only thirty minutes later, I can be

up in our lush Hinterland hiking to a waterfall or exploring a quaint village for some local artisan goods. Our land is a fertile foodbowl and I can shop at a local market with confidence knowing I will be walking away with fresh produce in my hands - it’s why we’ve been dubbed Queensland’s Sunshine Pantry! The Sunshine Coast has also been crowned the Craft Beer Capital of Australia with over 24 breweries, alongside more than 11 distilleries, there is no better way to top off a sun quenched day with a cold, local beverage!

With our year-round temperate climate, we are a premium destination for immersing yourself in nature and viewing some of Australia’s best wildlife. From June to October, we are part of the ‘humpback highway’, which sees 40,000 whales travel up and

down our coast, dolphins are spotted frolicking all year round, and if you look up in the trees at our national parks, you may even spot a koala or two!

With more than 100km of famous coastline wrapping around our lush hinterland hills, and a beautiful UNESCO Biosphere Corridor to protect, our community is committed to living sustainably, celebrating all things local, and sharing our picturesque landscapes and abundance of produce. Alongside our many national parks and stunning beaches, the Sunny Coast is home to a wide array of tours and experiences to suit every traveler’s needs. We shine with boutique and resort style accommodation and we cannot wait for your clients to experience the magic of the Sunshine Coast soon!

ACKNOWLEDGMENT

Visit Sunshine Coast acknowledges the Sunshine Coast Country, home of the Kabi Kabi peoples and the Jinibara peoples, the Traditional Custodians, whose lands and waters we all now share. We wish to pay respect to their Elders – past, present and emerging, and acknowledge the important role First Nations people continue to play within the Sunshine Coast community.

WUNYA NGULUM

WELCOME

EVERYONE

TO QUEENSLAND’S SUNSHINE COAST!

When it comes to what makes the Sunshine Coast so special, you’ll find the clue is in our name. We have a sunny disposition that radiates from the inside out, and when you’re on holiday here, you’ll start to feel it too. Switch screen time for green time in our lush Hinterland and swap your front yard for our great big blue one - we hope you don’t mind sharing it with the locals… the humpbacks, turtles and dolphins that is.

There’s plenty to seek and so much to find, from farm to fork experiences to sipping your way through our burgeoning craft beer scene (we are Australia’s Craft Beer Capital after all) and discovering pinch-yourself experiences. So, what are you waiting for? Come and find your Sunshine Moment, for real, right here on the Sunshine Coast!

THE HINTERLAND

Welcome to our leafy backyard: the Hinterland! Packed with postcard perfect villages, lush national parks and rainforest retreats. There are few places in Australia where you can traverse an array of ancient volcanic peaks - we’re talking more than 25 million years old - all before breakfast.

But here, in the Glass House Mountains, there are 11 to explore. You’ll want to carve out some time in villages like Maleny, Montville and Mapleton where the streets are lined with cafés slinging local produce and epic art galleries, as well as Kenilworth, a little country town packing a whole lot of charm. At night, fall asleep to the sound of the rainforest in your tranquil retreat – bliss.

CALOUNDRA TO MOOLOOLABA

The southern belle of the Sunshine Coast, Caloundra is a laid-back coastal town where the locals will greet you with a warm welcome and the natural beauty is endless. Need even more beach? Head over to neighbouring Mooloolaba consistently voted one of Queensland’s best beaches. Here the action starts at the Esplanade, so start your day by taking your taste buds on a tour of the best local cafés - before throwing yourself into the sparkling ocean and body surfing the perfect rolling waves. Looking for a place to eat? The Wharf Mooloolaba has you covered, with a range of epic bars and restaurants right on the sparkling waters of the Mooloolah River.

MAROOCHYDORE TO COOLUM

To the east of the region you’ll find the Cooloola Coast, home to the sparkling waters of Rainbow Beach and Tin Can Bay and the closest gateway to K’gari (Fraser Island). In fact, we’re the only destination in the world where you’ll find three UNESCO Biosphere Reserves sitting side-by-side. Here you’ll find some of Australia’s most pristine natural environments, like the Noosa Everglades - one of only two everglades systems on Earth - is a 60km stretch of sparkling waterways, fringed

by ancient tea tree forests and floating lily pads. We also have more than 100km pristine beaches, pockets of subtropical rainforest and the ancient peaks of the Glass House Mountainsthat are actually remnants of volcanic activity that occurred more than 25 million years ago.

AND THE BEST PART? HERE, YOU CAN SWIM YEAR-ROUND AND BEST ENJOYED IN THE RIGHT CONDITIONS.

With a sunny laidback vibe and quality waves, the Sunshine Coast is a worldclass surfers’ playground. If you are after more of an adrenaline rush, soar over the glassy ocean on a jet ski or hydrofoil, or set a slower pace paddling through our crystal clear waters on a kayak.

From June to October, swim alongside the majestic humpback whales with the crew at Sunreef Mooloolaba or, if you prefer to keep your feet dry, jump aboard one of the many whale watching

vessels. If snorkelling is more your thing, Mudjimba Island, accessible by boat, is the place to swim alongside the island’s locals - dolphins, turtles, stingrays, crayfish, wobbegongs, eels and starfish.

Discover one of the best dive wreck sites in Australia, the Ex-HMAS Brisbane. Further north, Wolf Rock dive site is the only known gestation site for Grey Nurse Sharks on Australia’s East Coast and has been classified as a marine sanctuary.

From coastline to farmland, the Sunshine Coast’s unique geographic location within a UNESCO Biosphere corridor creates a recipe for success. Our volcanically rich terrain dishes up nutrient dense produce and an abundance of culinary experiences which are just waiting to be devoured. It’s no wonder that over 900 producers and makers call the Sunshine Coast home. Come and explore Queensland’s Sunshine Pantry with us!

BUCKET LIST ON-FARM EXPERIENCES

WARRIOR RESTAURANT & BAR

DINING EXPERIENCES WITH A DIFFERENCE

Dine among our native bushland at the Irwin family’s Warrior Restaurant & Bar, or sip on a fruity gin inspired by our iconic Big Pineapple. There’s an abundance of ways to taste our organic, seasonal produce.

SHOP WHERE THE FARMERS DO

The Sunshine Coast is fully stocked with farmers markets and produce stalls serving everything from chutneys, mushrooms, sausages and more. Discover our local produce markets and the best places to pick up the tastiest treats.

AWARD-WINNING BREWERIES AND DISTILLERIES

While it’s no secret the Sunshine Coast is Australia’s Craft Beer Capital. We have the most breweries per capita of any state or territory in Australia. We’re also home to an emerging distillery scene. Here, local brewers and distillers find inspiration in their surroundings – producing everything from a Pineapple Parfait gin (that pays homage to the Big Pineapple in Nambour), to an Amber Lager inspired by Noosa’s sunsets.
