We often hear from brides that they want to try something new. Here is the thing when your husband-to-be sees you for the first time on your wedding day it is important that he recognizes his bride. It is good to come out of your comfort zone and make choices that will enhance your natural beauty. Don’t make the mistake of smokey eyes and bright red lips when your day to day look is mascara with your favorite chapstick. W H E N S H O U LD I B O O K M Y H A I R A N D M A K E U P T R A I L? Trial runs should be booked 4-6 weeks in advance. We recommend booking your trial on a special day so that you can get feedback from friends and family. Many brides schedule this the day of their bridal shower or engagement party. Bring along a picture of your gown, any hair accessories you are planning to wear on your big day and inspirational photos. Accessories could be a veil, headpiece, extensions or decorative clips. Pinterest can be a bride’s best friend when looking for ideas.

Start with clean hair and skin. In most cases we recommended that you wash your hair the night before. When you wake up follow your normal routine for washing your face and moisturizing. You should never try a new beauty product the week of your wedding, since it is unknown how your skin will react. We advise telling your bridal party the same thing. Just as a reminder you and yourbridal party should wear a button down shirt or robe to prevent any hair or makeup mishaps.

Many couples prefer to enjoy their cocktail hour socializing with guests who have traveled from near and far to celebrate their wedding day. These couples often choose to do a “First Look” before their ceremony. This is a special moment where the bride and groom see each other privately while we capture it from a distance. This not only allows you to complete a large portion of your portraits beforehand, it helps to calm your nerves and put you at ease by seeing your soon-to-be spouse. As long as you are able to adhere to a strict timeline before the ceremony and your entire bridal party and family members are punctual, this is a great option for your wedding day.

The time of year can also influence our opinion on doing a first look for your wedding. During the winter months, the sun sets much earlier than it does in the summer, shortening our optimal time for outdoor portraits following your ceremony. Doing a first look prior to your wedding ensures that we will have ample time for portraits with lots of pretty natural light. In the summer months when the sun sets later, a traditional timeline works very well with optimal lighting for photography taking place in the late evening.

For those couples who decide they don’t want to see each other before the ceremony, we stick to a more “Traditional” timeline and complete the portraits during the cocktail hour. This will include family portraits, bridal party photos and a private time for the bride and groom. Reserving an hour and a half for this portion of your day willI help us to have a relaxed and thorough portrait session that will not feel rushed or stressed.

Before you begin working with a designer, you may want to consider preparing a few things. First, it is really helpful to figure out what your specific budget is for your invitations. Remember to consider all the relevant stationery you will need in your budgeting and planning. This includes inserts, RSVP cards, table cards, programs, etc. Another important element of your budget for you to consider is how many guests you are planning on inviting. Remember, your invitations are generally addressed to households and not specific guests, so your invitation count is generally different than your expected guest count.

Finally, have a style or design preference in mind. It is really helpful if you have a theme or a style of invitation that you prefer so we can have a good place to start from for a design plan and budgeting perspective. Our recommendation is to search blogs, pinterest & wedding magazine sites to collect any ideas that you like and then discuss them with your designer.

It is also helpful (although not always possible!) to have your venues, events and details for your wedding. Wedding invitation designs can be completed concurrently; however it is helpful to have things finalized before you begin your invitation design.

E X P E RT I S E : F LO W E R S HOW DO I BUDGET FOR FLOWERS?

Best advice before booking the Gorgeous 8,000 venue or that $4,000 photographer, make sure you have money in your budget for flowers. Way to often do I see Brides come to me and say we have 500.00 for flowers and they have the best venue, and best photographer and there is over 200 people attending and 20 tables along with 10 bridesmaids. There is no money left for flowers 500.00 or 1500.00 just isn’t going to get you the flowers that we see so beautifully pinned for that many guests or Bridal party. Not that the Venue and Photographer isn’t important, however if flowers are equally important to you, having a budget for every Category is my Best advice. Along with doing your Homework of fees and pricing is equally important to having a realistic Budget without surprises.

Cut down your wedding party! This is a big one! Before you have 12 bridesmaids, remember you’re paying for 12 bouquets. If each bouquet cost around $85 each, you’ve spent $1,020 on bridesmaid bouquets alone! That’s crazy! You can majorly reduce cost by having a smaller bridal party.

Cut down the number of large centerpieces. If you want big awesome centerpieces, you should have them! But if your budget doesn’t have room for them, use candle and bud vases on some tables, or smaller arrangements to off-set the cost. You still get the same look and everyone gets to see those large-and-in-charge arrangements, but without you paying for them on every table.

Don’t Get married during Holidays. Flowers double and Triple during Valentine, Mothers Day, Easter, New Years and Christmas. Be open to their suggestions. A good flower designer will listen to you and do everything they can to make your wedding flowers exactly what you want them to look like on your wedding day. And they also have some really great ideas.

Cut down the number of tables. It’s simple. The less people, the less tables, the less money you will spend. Or get creative...add extra seats at each table or use bistro tables if you can get by with it.

Most of our brides spend around $1500.00 to 5,000.00.

MELISSA PAULSON OF ISABELLA’S BRIDAL BOUTIQUE E X P E RT I S E : T H E D R E S S W H AT S H O U L D I B R I N G T O M Y B R I D A L G O W N A P P O I N T M E N T ?

We always recommend our brides bring in shape wear of their choice and a great strapless bra. Nude colors are best and a pair of shoes in the height that you are thinking of wearing on your big day gives you a good idea of the complete look. Also, definitely bring in photos of dresses you have found in magazines or online that you like! Let your bridal consultant know before hand if their is a certain style you are looking for! WH EN S H OU LD I O R D ER MY B R I DAL GOWN?

Special order dresses take 4 - 6 months to come in after they are ordered so be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to get the dress in and have any alterations done to make the dress fit perfectly! 90% of girls will need some alterations done after the dress comes in. Alterations usually take between 4-6 weeks to complete and require 2-3 fittings! WH O S H OU LD I B R I N G TO MY B R I DAL GOWN APPOI NTM ENT ?

We suggest that the bride bring the three most important guests with her and those who opinions she trusts. More than three opinions in the room may get confusing and can be discouraging. At the end of the day, it’s the bride who makes the decision and she should trust her gut and go with the dress that she loves and that she feels the most beautiful in!

WHEN IS THE IDEAL TIME TO BOOK OUR DJ SERVICE?

Although it is never too early to reserve a DJ for your wedding, there are recommended time frames in which to do so. Keep in mind, the peak months sell out the quickest; so don’t be left stranded. Gather all your information well in advance of your wedding day in order to make the most informed decision.

We charge per person because we want you to know what you are getting and what your total will be. On consumption the bottle cost can rise if the bartender is not properly trained to finish a bottle before opening another. For example, Setting up your bar can mean opening every bottle and multiple bottles of wine so on a consumption bar your cost is already high before you begin.. If no guest chooses to drink that wine or liquor that was open then you have a cost for a bottle that should have never been opened. On a per person bar there is no additional charge for any unused open bottles.

The following are guidelines as to when to reserve your DJ: • April, May, June, July, October, November, December: 8-12 months in advance • March, September: 6-8 months in advance • August, January, February: 4–6 months in advance
