Welcome to York this Summer, a regular on the “best places to live” lists, the historic city of York is best known for its world-class attractions, the best racecourse in the country and has a varied cultural offering to suit all tastes. Overlooked by the iconic York Minster, York is surrounded by extraordinary walls and winding cobbled streets with independent shops and boutiques. With an incredible multitude of eateries spanning every cuisine imaginable, York is home to some brilliant dining destinations, with everything from international street food to a Michelin-starred restaurant. Following an exciting transformation project, Clifford’s Tower has reopened to the public. Immerse yourself in centuries of history and enjoy panoramic views over the city from a new roof deck. The deck can now be accessed from new internal walkways and historic stairwells which helps show the historical layout of the tower and give a better understanding of its history.
The City Walls Experience at Micklegate Bar opened to the pubic this April and will bring the history of York’s city walls to life. Visit one of the most historic gateways to the city and discover fascinating stories from 2,000 years ago involving battles, imprisonment and near destruction. Yorkshire Museum has reopened with a new exhibition, The Ryedale Hoard, which contains a collection of significant Roman objects and for the very first time in Yorkshire, visitors will be able to see this exciting new discovery and explore the mystery of who buried the Hoard and why. Discover all the incredible things to do in York, including a packed calendar of events and make the most of your visit by extending your stay, and #LoveYork for longer. Visityork.org Follow @VisitYork for the latest info. Things change! While information is believed to be correct at the time of going to print, dates and events may change.
