St Nicholas Fair 16 NOV - 22 DEC
York’s favourite festive market is back and more spectacular than ever before...
10
Meander through the magical market stalls of St Nicholas Fair and delight in a truly special shopping experience. Wander inside traditional chalets adorned with twinkling lights and follow the aromas of mulled wine and tempting treats to the new Yorkshire Barn for a taste of yule themed Yorkshire fodder. Be the first to the fair on Festive First Night, commencing the celebrations across York. The 16 November will see the official opening of St Nicholas Fair and the Christmas light switch-on, illuminating the city and making the medieval bar walls even more magnificent. Scandinavian style stalls will light up the winter days along Parliament Street, St Sampson’s Square and The Judge’s Lodging, where the Small Business Christmas Market will be the home of handcrafted gifts, plus there’s inspired presents aplenty in Coppergate. Local flavour will fill York’s famous Shambles Market and Food Court and there’s decorative details on offer at the new Made in Yorkshire Yuletide Village.
After shopping, take time to relax around a roaring log fire at cosy canvas hang-out Thor’s Tipi, where you can warm up with a hot chocolate or something a little stronger. To add to the merriment there’s five uniquely themed Festive Weekends, welcoming fanfare on Brass Band Weekend between the 18 and 19 November and a generous sprinkling of carols during Choirs Weekend between 25 and 26 November. Little ones will love Family Weekend between 2 and 3 December, don’t miss the glittering Ice Trail weekend of 9 and 10 December and join the fun on Shambles Market Party Weekend on 16 and 17 December. Book Your Stay Linger a little longer to experience everything at York’s Christmas Festival. To book your break and enjoy an enchanting York Christmas, speak to our team at the Visit York Information Centre on 01904 550099, email info@visityork.org or check out visityork.org/christmas.

York is the ultimate Christmas shopping destination, where unique boutiques and independent market stalls share the streets with big brand favourites.
Swap stressful Christmas shopping for something a little more laid back and wrap up your festive shopping in style. Purchase locally handcrafted treasures at the Small Business Christmas Market at Judge's Lodging, where it isn’t about fighting your way through crowds to see the same old products but about discovering something special and supporting 20
local independents in the process. Feast your eyes on wonderful wares for the whole family at the magical markets of St Nicholas Fair from 16 November right up to 22 December. Whether you're searching for a last-minute stocking filler or seeking inspiration for the perfect present, you’ll find edible offerings, art and everything in-between in York. Delve into the delicatessens of Gillygate, Fossgate and Goodramgate for food-themed gifts. For fashion, you’ll find luxury labels along Stonegate and high-street favourites down Coppergate and Coney Street. Dip in and out of shops on Davygate and spoil a chocolate lover with a sweet something from York's Chocolate Story on Kings Square. If you're
looking for something extra special, pick out a piece for an art lover down Micklegate and peruse beautiful British crafted jewellery at Bradley’s Jewellers on Low Petergate. For unique and exclusive gifts, stroll down the Shambles and find the Shop that Must Not be Named and be sure to visit the medieval Merchant Adventurers' Hall on Fossgate. DIAMONDS ARE A GIRL’S BEST FRIEND! The wonder of nature: an insider’s guide to choosing that perfect diamond with Kay Bradley of Bradley’s Jewellers, York • Research and buy from an ethical company like Bradley’s who have over 50 years of experience and are a long-standing member of the National Association of Jewellers.
• Be conscious of synthetically-grown diamonds which are not natural and decrease in value.
• Buy British-made products as Kay believes these are world-leading in jewellery design. • Look for the 4 C’s: Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat Weight.
• Truly colourless diamonds are very rare, but Bradley’s carry a fine selection of certified ‘D Colour Diamonds.’
• Ensure the stone is radiant and sparkles when tilted.
• Quality comes before quantity. Invest in the best stone you can afford! • Always get your diamond insured and ask for a complimentary valuation document.
• All these factors affect the price, so think about your budget and expect to exceed it!
