The English School opened its doors on September the 4th 1961. Fifty years later TES has 1,700 students and 350 members of teaching and administrative staff, set in a 15 acre campus. The English School, is a thriving and popular school, with bilingual, confident students and has an excellent reputation in Bogotá and worldwide. I am extremely happy to be the first Headmistress since Elizabeth Masson and feel very proud to be a part of the school community. I feel honoured to lead the 50th celebrations and would like to thank the community for welcoming me with open arms. The 50th anniversary is a significant moment in history and a time for all community members to reflect and celebrate the past and present. It is also the moment to prepare for the future and to plan ahead. I believe Mrs Masson would be extremely proud of TES today. In 1984 Mrs Masson wrote in the Huts yearbook about TES being a happy school, with happy students. In 2011, we have reintroduced the word “happy” into our school philosophy statements, with an attempt to relive and revive Mrs Massons wishes.

Our Mission statement is now as follows: “The English School strives for academic excellence, delivering high quality learning in a happy environment, creating confident leaders who act with integrity. Students have a social conscience, demonstrate care for the environment and are capable of transforming their surroundings in a positive way.” Our Vision for 2016: “By 2016 our pioneering, innovative and multilingual graduates will be among the happiest IB students within Latin America, striving for excellence.” We are also launching a new image for the 50th. The new image marks a fundamental evolution of the school, preserving the past, but taking the school into the future. We have maintained the original shield and have lifted the colours out of the shield to make the logo and image, modern and dynamic. I hope you enjoy our sticker album. We have tried to capture the spirit of TES over the last 50 years and give you an insight into how the school has developed and grown. This album is dedicated to our students of the past and present, for making the school so special and so unique. Enjoy!

Mrs. Elizabeth Van Rossum de Masson Mrs. Masson. She was born in 1912 in Johannesburg, South Africa, but studied in the Netherlands and England where she carried out Social Work with young people during the war in 1946. Then she met her future husband Mr. Richard Masson. They got married in 1949 and travelled to Jamaica where Mr. Masson worked as an accountant in a University. They both came to Colombia in 1951 and lived in Chia.

She founded The English School after working for eight years in an other school in Bogotá. During the first eight years, Mr. Masson was a Maths Teacher, but his greatest passion was to help children with personal problems.

“Luisito”, was the school´s first driver and he had a bus that transported the children who lived in the north. Students who lived in the South were collected and taken home in the school car, which was referred to as a taxi.

80 1996. CAS Activities. CAS (Creativity, Action and Service), is one of the areas, along with Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the Extended Essay, at the heart of the Diploma Programme of the IB. Our school has been developing the CAS programme for approximately 13 years. We have been leading global projects such as being one of the first schools to reach the area of ​​the Amazon. Each year, we now visit the Amazon with our students and raise awareness of global issues and participate in real action. We also participate in all Latin America InterCAS activities on a National and International basis.

The little house” was the construction that was already built on the farm that gave rise to TES after its founding and functioning in cra.7 with street 79. The style of the house was “country” and it held the offices of Administrative and Academic Directors of the school. It was then transformed into the new administration building in 1994.
