NAMIBIAN
CULTURE amibia is truly unique, influenced by various cultures during colonization and now reborn from the shadows of Apartheid in 1990. What has emerged is a true sense of unity in diversity, the coming together of at least 11 major ethnic groups, each celebrating their past while working together toward the future. You will notice this in dress, language, art, music, sport, food and religion. There exists a wonderful collage, but first and foremost, Namibians are proud to be Namibian. And for good reason. Some of the most famous tribes of Namibia include Damara, Himba and San Bushmen
“Having recently taken a trip to Namibia with Obeo Travel, I can highly recommend their service. Rannveig was our tour leader and she did a great job piecing everything together and making sure we were where we were meant to be at all times!! The standard of accommodation we used and all the services they utilised were top notch! I would have no hesitation in recommending them or travelling with them again.” Lynne Casey, Fahy Travel
PRACTICAL INFORMATION Vaccinations
When to travel to Namibia
Your doctor should be able to advise you of any vaccinations that you would need. Namibia is in general known as a Malaria free area with minor risk in the Northern part – it is your own responsibility to speak to your doctor and decide whether to take Malaria tablets.
Obeo’s top tip: Travel in low season, Nov – Apr. Despite it being wet season we have found the rain (if there is any) does not bother our guests as it’s usually short pours and clears up quickly. This is a beautiful time in Namibia, called “green season” and you will notice tourism isn’t busy where in some places you could feel like you’re alone in the world. This is Obeo’s favorite time.
Visas / Passports Please ensure your passport has validity at least 6 months after travel. Namibia offers many nationalities free visa which is granted upon arrival at customs. Please check whether you are eligible with your closest embassy/consulate.
Currency Namibia‘s currency is Namibian Dollar (N$). The South African Rand is also accepted in Namibia with equal value to N$. There is a money exchange and several ATMs at Windhoek airport where you can exchange/withdraw local currency.
Electricity/adapters Namibia uses 220V electricity and the same electrical adapters as South Africa. Power plugs and sockets are of type D and M.
