In Venezuela, things as basic as electricity and water are either rationed or unavailable. People have learned to keep buckets of yellowish tap water around the house at all times: that’s just common sense.

Then there’s the electricity problem. Blackouts take the Internet down with them, along with any hope for a productive day. Some places in Venezuela face power outages that last as long as 13 days, and there are communities where none of the basic services work. None.

WORLD’S MORTALITY RATE. According to the Venezuelan Violence Observatory, in 2017 there were nearly 27,000 violent deaths, putting Venezuela in second place among countries with most lethal violence. Venezuelans are fleeing insecurity and violence. Only 17% of the population feel safe walking home at night. Plus, most of Venezuelans dont trust in their local police.

“HUNGER IS KILLING CHILDREN. Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world. But in the last three years its economy has collapsed. Hunger has gripped the nation for years. Now, it’s killing children. In many countries, extreme malnutrition can be caused when there is war, a drought, some sort of catastrophe or an earthquake, but in Venezuela it is directly related to the shortages and inflation.

Nearly 3 million children are missing classes in Venezuela as a result of the deepening economic crisis. There’s insufficient funding for schools and a lack of qualified teachers due to low salaries or emigration.

MEDICINES LACK. Venezuela’s economic implosion has led to millions suffering food shortages, unable to buy basic goods. Prices double every two or three months and the currency is worth less every day. The country is suffering from an 85 percent shortage of medicine amid an economic crisis also marked by severe hyperinflation and food scarcity.
