WILL YOU HELP US
PROTECT CHILDREN AROUND THE WORLD?
PROTECTING CHILDREN IS AT THE HEART OF VIVA. Culturally embedded issues such as organised crime, violence and gender discrimination place children at great risk of exploitation and abuse. Last year we reached 2.2 million children worldwide, bringing change by: • Protecting children from harm through training and mentoring. • Helping families to provide children with a safe home. • Connecting and training churches to do more, better, together. • Raising awareness of child rights across whole cities. Puja is 17 and suffered from low self-esteem because of her disability. After receiving mentoring, Puja now says, “I feel confident and believe I lack nothing.” Over 70% of girls in India are neglected by their family and almost half wished they were boys. Puja’s mentor Mukund says, “I sense that some of these girls are being abused in their homes. I’m patiently waiting for them to open up.”
YOU CAN HELP IMPACT CHILDREN LIKE PUJA.
WE BELIEVE CHILDREN
BELONG IN FAMILIES. Sadly, those closest can cause children the most harm – and when that is the case we are never afraid to step in. We rescue children from abusive homes, trafficking and life on the streets, provide emergency care and counselling, and reintegrate children with loving families.
CONNECTING AND STRENGTHENING 3,750 CHURCHES GLOBALLY. Churches are often the saints in the slums, already working tirelessly for children – but doing so alone, without resources or a long-term plan. Our training ensures churches provide the best quality care for children. And by connecting them together in a network, they can be part of a joined-up, united response to vulnerable children. Up to 20,000 children are trafficked in Nepal each year. Our partner network CarNet Nepal has grown from five churches engaging in this problem to 500 churches working together today. Last year, the network hosted a four-day Anti-Human Trafficking conference with over 100 pastors and leaders. One church leader said, “This conference made me realise that this is the time for the churches of Nepal to come out of their comfort zone and be the voice for the voiceless.”
WE BELIEVE WE CAN DO MORE, BETTER, TOGETHER. In Uganda, our partner network CRANE has helped over 35 orphanages become short-term places of care. These Child Care Institutions are now finding extended families, providing counselling and helping to resolve family issues so that wherever possible children can return home. 1,700 children are now out of institutional care and back with families.
WE ENSURE CHILDREN THRIVE, NOT JUST SURVIVE.
EMPOWERING CHURCHES TO REACH CHILDREN IN 66 CITIES. Last year, we supported 132,000 children worldwide to powerfully raise the awareness of child rights in their city. As a result, Viva’s partner networks have seen their credibility grow. And today, two-thirds of them have signed agreements with city authorities, national government and service providers to help ensure children are safe, well and fulfilling their God-given potential. The Good Treatment Campaign runs in six cities in Bolivia. Last September, supported by youth leaders, children took to the streets and handed out over 72,000 ‘Good Treatment Licenses’ which asked adults to commit to treating children well and to improving family relationships. The campaign in Bolivia has the support of 91 churches, 100 schools and 14 governmental organisations. Fifteen-year-old Gabrielle says, “I have learnt that what we do makes a difference.”
