INTERIOR DESIGN Design Proposal Task

At Selina we make a point of creating visually rich, art-filled spaces. We organize and support musical, artistic and cultural events to stimulate the traveler’s senses - merging the local culture with our own to create something original, fresh and lasting. Creativity and content is key to us as it opens the door to new ways of viewing the world, to new possibilities and to our eventual evolution.
What is Interior Design for Selina? Selina’s mission is to build a global movement where people live, travel, work and have meaningful experience, while forging connections. Interior Designers play a major part in making this happen, they are responsible for creating the spaces that will enable these connections. Each Selina is unique, it should be playful and express the specific concept that was created for that location. A few core values at Selina when it come to Design - we focus greatly on upcycling materials, authenticity, and the expression of multiple art genres. Our style is eclectic yet sophisticated, and the design of each space should include a perfectly balanced mixture of functionality, comfort, and wow-factor, provided by the convergence of Interior Design and unique, creative and upcycled pieces.

In Selina we develop each location based on a given concept. This concept usually represents a mix between the local community, the style/history of the building, and what Selina wants to offer as an experience. For the first part of this task, we ask that you chose a concept that will guide your design proposal and is relevant to your city, just as if you had to do a Selina in this city. The concept will be defined by you and it can be a cultural reference, a historical event, or a design/art movement.
On these moodboards you must show the materials, color palettes, plants and any other reference (layouts, sections, elevation plans, 3Ds) to support and complement the concept you chose. The moodboards should be different from each other (they must respond to the needs of each space) but must follow the same concept line. The idea is to understand how you narrate a concept throughout the design of different spaces.
The next part of the task is the design proposal: After choosing the concept, you will build three different mood boards , one slide for each, to represent how this Concept would be translated to reality. You can choose 3 areas from the list below: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.

TROPICAL - RETRO Inspired by the great wealth of biodiversity that COSTA RICA presents, as well as its cultural roots, such mask and our tropical plants. Fusion between the 30s architecture with wood and mosaic floors and tropical design. Intention of a slightly retro design, incorporating tropical colors and textures. Noble materials such as wood, ceramics, concrete, mosaics. In order to generate a warm atmosphere.
