6th Bamboo Workshop project was done by ITB student and Mushasino Art University student. This theme of the project is “seikatsu-hin, the development of daily life products by using bamboo material for the needs of contemporary homes. Bamball is an output of our exploration in Bamboo processing. Bamball make people easy to bring their foods or snacks for the picnic day. It can be played as a ball.

9

DESIGN INSIGHTS We found that the most face-to-face interaction is limited by communication barrier, especially with people from different cultures. So we were aiming to design a product that enhances other social interactions that leads to togetherness. The things that really could bring this point is by eating habits. CONCEPT The concept came from kids toy and also Pokeball. The basic shape of the ball can be explored a lot. We also concern about the eating habit in Indonesia, which every dish was put in the middle of the table and applied it in our product.

IMAGE BOARD Fun. Dynamic. Safe

10

SKETCHES AND 3D MODELLING Finding the shape and proper mechanics of the product to function well when it used, through sketching, experimenting with the bamboo itself and by model making.

11

EXPLORATION & PROTOTYPING Not all kinds of bamboo weaving are compatible for making this ball. The craftsmen were doing this prototype about 2 days. When we were exploring the process of model making, we found an interesting thing, the ball can be transformed to flower shape when it’s opened and it’s become an aesthetic point for the product.

objective

Designing a separated waste collector and the system of carriage.

design brief

How can we reduce the mass waste disposal in Bandung as the case study and how making the collecting system more efficient?

A waste collection electric trike which use IoT (Internet of Things) system, Government (in this case is PD Kebersihan) could estimate the amount of waste each day. This trike allows people to separate their house waste, because B.Beres will carry the different type of trash separately, such as mixed waste; food; and scheduled waste (wastes are transported in different kind each day). This will be able improve the effectiveness and efficiency of waste management in the city of Bandung.

BACKGROUND. Waste management in Bandung is hardly to be solved. There are many kinds of regulations that said people to reduce waste in the society. But, the tangible things are not shown in this city. Still, there are still a lot of people who works with carts with almost a half ton of trash they carried and no proper regulation to manage the waste they have carried.

RESEARCH INSIGHTS

Each area has a (Transfer Point Stop) TPS; Waste need to be kept in a closed container; Rotting garbage produces liquid from 5 hours after it is mixed; Workers tried to collect trash as much as they can; The size of the existing trike is very wide. 18

design brief

How can the product or system solution in a nonprovit government organization and consider the impact for the community?

BSF have proven to be a great summertime composting solution. Black Soldier Fly larvae do more than just eat waste. When they are done eating your food waste, they will harvest themselves into buckets and let you feed them to your chooks, pigs, ducks, birds and fish. High in protein and fat they could become a main ingredient in future animal feeds. On average a household will produce a little under a kg of food waste per day. This food waste can be composted at home using black soldier fly larvae much much faster than worms can do it. This larvae basket is made to contain some larvae by Black Soldier Flies (BSF) techniques that . It is made in the simple shape to transport the larvae easier.

23

FoodLap is an community in Bandung that developing the systemic of waste production and concern in waste management services in the culinary industry. FoodLap want to create a circular economy in food waste management, from production (farmer) to the consumer and then make the waste become useful by changing it into fertilizer or animal feeder.

design brief

How can we empower the local craftmanship? What kind of output that we can support?

A CONVENTIONAL CONTAINER Kawrag could stores several packaged snacks and mineral water or glass. It can be carried and stored easily. User also can use it as a storage and room decoration when it is not used.

35

Cirebon’s Craftmanship

Batik Kawung

Cirebon is well known as its rattan craftsmanship. But recently, the investor is decreased. This became a problem to develop the economy of craftsmanship in here, We went to Cirebon and analyze what can we develop in this area.

Batik is one of Indonesian popular heritage. According to its Pattern, batik divided by two types : Batik Pesisir and Batik Keraton.

The market usually sells storage and drinking places separately, also in terms of design, it is still too conventional and rarely innovative. While in our product, we tried to combine those two functions.

36

We find something about the batik Keraton pattern, named kawung. Specifically Batik Kawung, the pattern is geometric, beautiful and simple. Batik Keraton is made for the royal family, the pattern mostly geometric, a lot of repetition, and using only natural colour. Batik Kawung has a meaning “harapan means hope.

“SILAHTURAHMI We made this idea before the Eid Mubarak comes. The most important thing about Eid Mubarak is Silaturahmi, where the family and friend gather to meet each other, socializing and having a quality time together. Not only does the Moslem, but most of all Indonesian do it. At every gathering, when the guests come they will always be served with drinks, snacks, or even food.

Food Storage Food storage is widely used in Indonesia to serve their guests, people mostly use jarred, plate, and drink storage.

37

The ATUMICS Method (Theory by Adhi Nugraha) A method for maintaining Tradition in a Craft Design Context. It is useful for the creative process, choosing possibilities, and thinking comprehensively. Therefore, it aims to help in identifying and in making choices about which combination of the elements of tradition and modernity might be relevant.

Target consumer 1. Active Neighborhood 2. Catering / food Service 3. Service Company (Salon, Spa, etc)

38

39

The process begins with choosing what type of wood are we going to use, and we decided to use Mahony wood, considering its solidness and strength. The next step, we bring our ready-to-use woods to our wood work and carve craftsman and transform it into desired shape.

objective

Giving new ideas of homeless prevention, from using public spaces, to apps, from new technology to reimagining old technology – and anything in between that can help people without a home to live their lives.

design brief

How can technology help people before they lose the roof over their heads?

We would like creating an integrated product with system to trigger the user emphaty for the homeless in the city – we called it “EMPATITA”. The key words of our project are emphaty and educate and this lead the first concept, bridging and combining the stakeholder with citizen, offering their time and expertise in order to help each other, connect, and move towards a more community based economy. The design will slowly create a community using innovative, integrated, and unique ways to connect and help the homeless to increase their productivity. “EMPATITA” is a website and app based technology connected to the wristband ID which has a more idealistic purpose: a tool in a connected, data-driven world, in which the power of information is placed directly in the hands of individuals.

62

GOALS Creating emphaty from the citizen to the homeless; Building a creative community that enable improve homeless life; Involve technology as the implementation of Smart City.

The attention that homeless wellness in Bandung have been seeing lately. The homeless is wearing wristbands for tangible empathy that can help motivate the homeless with some programs like education, food prosperity, not just filtering collecting data. RFID wristband is used to protect homeless, for poverty reduction strategies, anti-violence campaigns, early childhood supports, and anti-discrimination work all can contribute to a reduction in homelessness down the road and also create the higher self motivation and dignity level to the homeless.

Application Concept Creating an awareness by giving a role to the citizen and creating impact together.

Hero - the common people who want to make a change Bring awareness to the society by taking homeless photo or helping them. General - Community Creating and volunteering in a program (education & profiency; environment; health; or arts and culture program) Government As the executor giving information and identity (bandwrist) to homeless. Government also could improve the program to the homeless and get more detail data than the General or Hero.
