01 STEP-IT

BRAND & PROCESS is based on the study of Post-it brand, understand the brand language. And design a brand new idea that provide barefooted and magical user experience. The Step-it shoes consists of only the sole and heel and is super flexible. It sticks to the feet with reusable 3M skin adhesive, providing instant convenience and the ultimate barefoot shoe experience. (group project)

By studying the advertising and product of the brand, we sum up the brand characteristic by keywords to guide us to development the new product concept.

CONCEPT SKETCHES Base on the brand identity. We are going to design a brand new idea that provide barefooted and magical user experience. After that we start to research the material and the possible form of the design.

These are the foot scan that we do for understanding the weight distribution of different type of people and we found out the overlap point the foot will have contact with the shoes.

ADHESIVE TEST body adhesive pad stick time: >100

Body adhesive is commonly applied in the existing product. So we use a nipple pad for testing. We put them in several areas of the shoes sole. And we record how human step on it and how well they stick to the foot.

STYLING SKETCHES Sketches for brainstorming the design appearance. Exploring the possibilities, and visualize the outcome in a short period of time.

STEP IT

3D MODELING The development of the design. Showing how we are improving the contour line of the sole making it more comfortable on the human's foot. As well as the development of the heel wrap. This part is mainly designed to protect the ankle. As the ankle part is the first connecting point with the ground during walking.

SHOES BODY Supportive heel wrap provide slight protection for heel, as carrying handle for hand to hold.

HEEL Flexible silicone with ergonomic sole contour, that give shape to the sticky silicone layer, can provide barefoot shoe experience.

STEP IT

BOTTOM GRID Durable grip enhance the friction between itself and the ground. The cutaway stripes for flexibility and bending. With hollow structure inside that will makes it lighter.

SILICON LAYER The layer with skin adhesive, that would able to stick to foot sole. Can he use and clean repeatedly as it is totally waterproof. Also replaceable and come in a stack.Replaceable silicone top layer. Comes in a stack package. Change by peeling off and stick on a new one. Just step on the shoes and go. Take off the shoes by step and hold onto the heel part with another foot and step away from the adhesive and take off the shoe.

Base on the study of the brand image, the poster aims to project the overall mood of the brand and sell the brand new idea of a revolutionary shoes that features an innovative wearing method. The brand language of Post-it is about smart, magical and super sticky.

is a fashion item that apply 3D scan and printing technology. That brings your heartbeat into visual presentation. The Initial idea is to create a heart monitor that use user’s heart beat to create visual impact on the user’s skin. (group project)

The form of the neck ring is inspired by the curvy form of hirudinea. As to simulate that the neck ring is laying on the neck and transforming your heart beat into light projection.

Light is a media that can project patterns on the skin and i t c an hav e different variations by changing the color of the light intensity.

ZBRUSH MODELING Modifying the modeling in zbrush base on the 3D scanned body part of the model from the target user. Creates a smooth flow of the curvy form. It helps to have a preview of how the design sits on the user.

Create wall thickness of the product. Then cut the design pattern on the wall. As well as create the hollow inside space to fit the electricity parts for lighting.

PATTERN There are hollow patterns created on the product. When the light pass thought the holes. The shapes will projects on the skin. The triangular shapes creates a contract with the smooth and curvy outlook of the product.

FITS ON The shape of the device fits on the user perfectly. Base on the 3D scan body model from the user. We adjust the size and curve. And it is a customized design. The light shine from inside out through the hollow pattern and projected on the skin pattern and projected on the skin.

LIGHT PROJECTION The light pattern is projecting on the skin through the hollow pattern creates on the product. And the strength is base on the user's heartbeat, that can create a rhythm.

SMART GIFT COMPETITION

WE is a fashion accessory collection, including a bag, a coin bag and a key bag. The buyers can share the collection with their love ones. The unassembled coin bag and key bag are attached in the same piece of leather of the bag. (group project)

CONCEPT These three product are made from same piece of leather. A part of leather is cut out to create a handle for the bag. But it is not wasted as usual. We use it to create other two items that are always found in a handbag. They are coins bag and key bag.

ASSEMBLY OF THE BAG The bag are create by one uncut piece of leather attache with buttons. Which users can simply assemble all buttons to for a bag following simple steps.

COINS BAG and KEYS BAG The coins bag and key bag are attached in the same piece of leather of the bag. They are stemmed from the handle part of the bag. After they are separated from the bag, they can be used separately.

COINS BAG The coins bag is in a small triangular shape to let the coins flow out from the bag easily. And it is small and handy. Without any unnecessary decorations. Just a essential lock is present.

INITIAL IDEA VISITOR â&#x20AC;&#x153;VISITORâ&#x20AC;? is a line of contemporary mini furniture for life-conscious adults. The icon set possesses a chair and stool. It is space saving based on its size and form. As well as when you sit on it, it allows you to see things in a different perspective at home. You can live comfortably even in a small flat.

FIRST & SECOND RENDERING Both of the rendering are designed with three legs. The first design with one leg in the front and two legs at the back, that is not stable enough. The second one is designed in an opposite position. To make it more stable.

The back of the chair can take out and work as a stool. Take out the stand and turn it upside down. The end of the stand can be screwed on the back cushion.

FINAL RENDERING The final rendering is designed with four legs after testing the three legs version. As well as the stool design are changed. This design is more stable and durable by having four contact points with the floor. And the legs part are fixed with the chusion.

PARTS This chair is created by four parts. They can be easily assembled. Also the parts can pack in a square form. So it can transport easily to fit the online shopping system.

FIRST COLLECTION VISITOR Our first collection is â&#x20AC;&#x153;VISITORâ&#x20AC;?. It is a line of contemporary mini furniture for life-conscious adults. The iconic set possesses a chair and stool. It is space saving based on its size and form. As well as when you sit on it, it allows you to see things with different perspective at home. You can live comfortably even in a small flat.

DESCRIPTION This chair is low based, safe and unique. The chair is made of polished pine wood and upholstery fabric. This presents a warm and cozy feeling by its texture and the colour.

CHAIR and STOOL The chair can separate in to two parts. The back of the chair can act as a stool. In a small Living environment, The storage space with be focus on the upper one third of the space in the area. The simple and functional stool. The supportive legs allows you to lean and stand on it.

The website is designed for the online selling system. The website introduce the concept and products to the consumers. Video is uploaded on the website for a more detail of the products.

FUTURE DEVELOPMENT

Other 2 lines which fit for your pets and kids. They are “Traveler” and “Explorer”. We planed to develop products based on the similar brand concept. Traveler is a series of furniture that are low based, safe and unique. To create a comfortable zone for your pet. The explorer is a series of playful furniture which made of non-toxic material, it is safe for kids to sit on.

HOUSEWARE DESIGN

ARC simulate the nature landscape. Nature provides food for us. It brings life to food. People in the past gather and celebrate when having bountiful harvest. And now we hold parties to share happiness. The food must be vigor to attract people to enjoy. So we use the curves of water and mountains as motifs to display food, in order to excite the appetite. (group project)

CONCEPT RENDERING The Plates are presenting the ups and downs of the landscape. By exploring the form of the nature, to present it in an artificial way. As well as create patterns and rhythm. Multiple plates can put together like puzzles.

Each plate is designed for a specific type of food. The landscapes are designed for supporting and presenting the food in a gathering party.

The white colour plate and the fruitful colour from the food creates a contrast, that set off the refreshment. Even the ups and downs form project shadows around to enrich the visual.

CONCEPT BACKGROUND

Light controls human life through out the hold living system. China was an agricultural society so Ancients work time depend on the sun 「日出而作，日入而息」 The pace of life related to the system of sun and moon 「天人合一」 Nature and Men in One

LIGHT KEEPS US AWAKE, KEEPS US WORKING Artificial lights disrupt the body's natural rhythm, affect chemicals in the brain and drive people to use stimulants like caffeine to stay awake longer.But nowadays people start to work until midnight

and lake of resting time. We think that there are relationship between the light and the human living habit. Light is one of the elements which let them able to keep active at night.

Human are expected to work during the day time and rest at night. As well as our body system works in a cycle corresponding to light and dark cycle. Body repair system work the best Between midnight to every afternoon.

FINDINGS CHINESE MECDICAL PRESEPECTIVE ABOUT INNER ORGAN RUNNING This theory is that chinese design the human repair system base on the time slot. and everytime slot reprsent the human organ.

WESTERN MECDICAL PRESEPECTIVE ABOUT INNER ORGAN RUNNING This theory is the western medical system that showing how the body working and resting but not for specific organ.

THE PRESENT LIVING PATTERN OF HUMAN This graph from JAWBONE shows the living pattern of Hong Kong. So it is oppotunity for us to design a product to remine people about this problem

é&#x2122;˝ é&#x2122;° YIN YANG represent the balance of the whole universe. Including your life. We use this representative element in traditional chinese philosophy to present the balance of the user's daily life. The black part is representing the dark period of the day and the white part is representing the day time. Because human repair system is base on the time slot. Simply it is about working and resting.

THE FLOW This is the flow of how users interact with the lamp. The interaction with this design is different from the traditional light design. This product react differently depends on the user habits.

Doing the pressing gesture on top of the desk Lamp on the table.

The working light on top is turned on.

At 11:00pm the light of the Suspension lamp will turn off by itself.

Level of the light on "YANG" part of the control will increase. According to times you shank on top of it.

Doing an lefing gesture on top of the desk lamp will turn off the light.

The Suspension lamp will wake by you. And lights on again.

The light of "YIN" and "YANG" will balance when you start turn of the light and start taking rest.

TIMELY HONG KONG COOPERATIVE PROJECT

TIMELY HONG KONG

is a large installation presented at Maker Faire Hong Kong. It aims to engage 4,000 participants to cocreate this art installation reflecting the individual feelings that aims to mimic the landscape of the famous Lion Rock. Participants will be involved in making a personalized desktop lamp that they can bring home as a memorabilia, or as gift to their loved ones just in time for the holidays (group project)

CONCEPT We believe the core value of Hong Kong should be carried out by our instillation. The spirit of Lion Rock connects generationsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; feeling and it is the representation of our city, which cannot be replaced by foreigns.

CONCEPT “Sound Sound” 出 refers to the thoughts of Hong Kong people. In chinese, this combination means “mountain”. Therefore, Lion Rock is selected as the theme since it symbolically represents the spirit of Hong Kong. As the installation need to fulfil the spirit of Maker Faire 2015, the installation is expected to be built by the participants.

The proposed mountain installation is created by around 4000 pipes in different heights. This co-working event is a metaphor which represents our homeland was built by generations of Hong Kongers.

CONTOUR LINE THE FORM DEVELOPMENT OF THE LION ROCK We have two approaches for the form of the lion rock. The first one is based on the real geographical contour line on the lion rock. The second approach is modified based on a real lion's body curve.

LAMP DEVELOPMENT THE FORM DEVELOPMENT OF THE LAMP As we design to make the lamp as a souvenir. The form inspiration of the lamp is from the traditional sail boat in Hong Kong. It can represent the Hong Kong spirit. And we would like to create the shape by one to two sheet of acrylic and by bending them to create the 3 dimensional forms. This is easier to create by the participates.

1. The shape of the sail is difficult to achive and not interesting.

2. The position of the sail is not able to let the light pass through the acrylic. And the round shape is difficult to control

3. This shape of the sail is developed in a more horizontal way, so it does not match with the whole installation.

EXPECTED VISUAL OUTCOME

REFLECTION AND COMMENTS

This is the expected visual octcome of the sovenir. The form and assemble design until the mid-team presentation. The design is the easiest for assembly and the base design is possible to attach to the pipe.

The coments from the cilents are that the LED cannot pass through the acrylic well. So the patterns will not that clear or obvious as a visual outcome. And more details are needed to show.

FORM DEVELOPMENT OF THE LAMP SAILS

1. Sails of classic ships from Hong Kong is the inspiration for the design. At the bottom of the bigger piece there is cut out for the LED.

2. The two sides are joined for a better light distribution through the acrylic.

3. The shape is slightly changed to give the acrylic more of a dynamic look

4. The corners are rounded for a warmer and friendlier look. The shape made to stabalice the LED and ensure good light distribution is altered.

5. In this final design of the â&#x20AC;&#x153;Sailâ&#x20AC;?, the bottom of the acrylic that connects the LED and base is changed to fit the altered design of the base.

DETAILS DEVELOPMENT OF THE LAMP BASE

1. The first rough model are made from foam. As a quick and rough model for hand on experience and and brief proportion.

2. This is the first 3D printing of the base. The logo is made as convex. The 3D printing is made for the preview of the outcome.

3. This is the second 3D printing of the base. The logo is made as concave.

4. The final design of the base is made by concrete, This gives a raw feeling of maker.

LIGHTING DESIGN The light on top of each pipe is an expression tool for participants. They can choose the color of the lights to speak up their feeling as well as experiencing making process through the whole creation workshop. These will also become a memorable object for them to bring home after the event.
