SIX STORIES is a research studio on Collective Housing rooted in three primary areas of investigation: 1) Analysis of housing types in the intermediate scale of 6 Stories 2) Stories of how 6 people in urban centers experience collective living today, and 3) Research of secondary and tertiary streets that have allowed for novel forms of collective living. Following with the concept of collectivity, the thesis of my term relates to the contrasting element of privacy and how public and private work in conjunction with each other. When thinking about collectivity within housing, the idea of public communal spaces is usually the focus in design, but the reality is that to maintain a well-designed home, private spaces, such as the bedroom needs enough privacy for the user to feel comfortable. The home for privacy is presented as extremely important for security, intimacy and silence. The term will follow the research in how to engage private spaces to promote collectivity in housing within a dense urban fabric

upon to negotiate and dissolve the physical boundary between human and animal. The objective of this project was to design and incorporate artificial habitation for the extensive population of squirrels through the form of architecture that would benefit their adaptation into the urban landscape system. The design methodology investigates the interrelationship between human and squirrel interaction and their associated impact with each other. The intent was to construct multiplication of small scale architectural interventions that can influence large scale territorial systems and patterns. Recognizing and providing additional dwelling units for these mammals will steer them away from invading human homes. Just as wildlife has impacted our human-built infrastructure, humans have invaded theirs. Providing these mammals equal living opportunities in the growing urban city will allow for cohabitation with human species.

Focusing on juxtaposing contrasting elements, this project achieves elements of dichotomy by determining dualities that exist within a public archive building and public programs based on their environmental requirements. Important dualities in the project include light and darkness, suspended and rooted, and lightweight and heavy. We achieve this by designing a simplistic yet monumental concrete bar building along Front street, known as “The Mass”, and contrast it against lightweight, steel and “Glass Tube” structures that float and penetrate the mass. Although it is important that L E Vthe EL -1 project creates a clear division of two elements, curating the moment connection throughlight penetrating into darkness was integrated as the lightwells puncture into the mass structure. The Hill & The Valley is based on an urban development of a rail deck park in Toronto, driven by 4 different constituents; Our primary constituent are the Vertical Families Association, as well as the Income Investors, Birds in Real Danger and the Park People. There were evident overlaps and dissonances between the constituents, which were tackled in the proposing scheme that folds all our infrastructure underneath a permeable landscape, while still maintaining a coherent parceling logic. The design intention of Adrift was to create split/twins building that allows for two residents to occupy the space. Starting with preset volume of 10m x 14m x 22m, the form was then cut into similar volumes and reoriented onto the site in proportion and relative to each other and the surface. Since the concept of the two residents were imagined as two lovers, the two structures were positioned to merge and connect with each other in an elegant fashion. The buildings together created a work and living space for both residents.
