SYSTEMS, COMPREHENSIVENESS, INTEGRATION: TOWER OF POSSIBILITIES
THE VERTICAL ENTERTAINMENT HUB
Finding a balance between architecture and technology in an era so dependent on new advances in the latter, requires a re-evaluation of form. The intrusion of technology in some instances, has stripped architectural forms of its initial purposes, making almost anything possible in the least of spaces through smart and convenient plugins. As much as technology can do to innovate spaces, they are limited to small and temporal interfaces. The qualities brought about by technology are nothing compared to the experience in a well-designed space.
In this scheme, the phenomenon of advertising billboards is evaluated. Looking at examples of facades which have been draped in billboardssuch as in Times Square, New York, it highlights an important question for architects: has technology unconsciously paraded over architecture and its purpose? How can we reinnovate architecture to serve the same purpose and more - in a world where showcasing products is so vital for the economy. The success of billboards, attracting large crowds, lies in the vibrant images and animations played on facades, connecting users through an audio visual relationship.
The idea lies in the showcasing of entertainment in a site rich in arts and cultural diversity. Establishing a relationship between the ground level audience and the movement and behaviour within the tower, recreates the same crucial link in the billboard phenomenon. The programme entails the start to finish of an entertainment production - brainstorming, preparation, rehearsal, performance and post-production. The process is street-facing while challenging the vertical visual limits of a skinny tower.

AGGREGATION, STRUCTURE, SPACE: REDEFINING THE APARTMENT BLOCK THE COBWEB
“the human is an animal that unlike other species is devoid of specialized instincts and thus affected by a persistent feeling of never being “at home,” it is within language and ritual that this feature of human nature comes to be tamed.”
Aureli, Notes on the Floor Plan
The human body is replicated in the architectural form, drawing ideas from the human circulatory system, with a central core pumping life to other vital organs. The redefinition of the apartment as such, transfers substances vital to the body among its counterparts and back to the centre for dissemination. The crossing of paths, the meeting of users within this system, is inevitable and encouraged, necessary to its survival.
A lattice formation of octagons creates a multiplicity of space, varying in scale and location, scattered throughout the building. the resulting curvature of movement enabled by the tessellation of octagons breaks down the rigidity of the form, creating natural meanders alike arteries and veins in the human system, while retaining an order.
Through this COBWEB of linkages enlivened by intersecting diversities of people, the conditions to foster relationships will infiltrate. Be it distant or closely-knit, a sense of home can take its place and afford the building a intangible value transcending its physical form.

ENVIRONMENT, CLIMATE, ENVELOPE: YIELD & OVERCOME | COAST NATURE’S EMBRACE
Inducing a multi-sensorial experience created by varying qualities of fabric in response to the environment. Understanding Gibson’s theory of affordance in architecture, we aimed to design a space that personalizes meditation to a user’s own perception. Breaking free from the rigidity of common performative forms, this helps the user to follow his own path of thought and feel present within the architecture as it interacts with the body.
