Kay Quattrocchi is a very surprising artist, not to say...confusing! Her life is so intense that if a great writer one day decided to make a feature film, he would not know where to begin. he simplest way is to tell everything in a random manner. She will not be offended, since Kay’s spatiotemporal concepts are not necessarily in line with her contemporaries’. Despite an Anglo-Saxon first name, an Italian name and a Greek mother, Kay is French but spent her childhood in Indochina. That being said, regardless of nationality, again, be aware that Kay is universal! As a teenager she was repatriated to France as war in Vietnam was raging. She adapted herself rather well to the country that was hers but that she did not know. By chance, she discovered at the same time, through her TV set and the Apollo experience, that technology does not serve only war, but also “human ingenuity”. This blend of materials, knowledge and intelligence gives rise to a technology that is not too far from military engineering, but at the service of peace, Kay understands it well. From there, failing to become an astronaut, she definitely knows that in her soul there is a hidden scientist! Logically, one would think that her fate was determined. Instead, one could find her a few years later as a radio and TV announcer in Tahiti! This is probably what is most extraordinary in Kay Quattrocchi’s life. Chance, synchronicity, fate, everything is intertwined. To the point of believing that she has parallel lives. And even more! We will skip over

her adolescence in Martinique, Morocco and Ceylon. We will also hardly mention her Catholic and secular schools, her daily visits to the Buddhist temple with her Indochinese nurse or her orthodox education on her mother’s side. It is impossible to tell everything! Kay is everywhere and nowhere at the same time, a citizen from here and elsewhere, with no country and no religion. She is a timeless and elusive woman. Yet she seems to carry a message. The answer must be sought on her art’s side. To understand her character’s complexity artistically, it should be said that she can paint everything! Her mastery and technical level are such that she can, according to her wishes, embrace any style. That being said, it is important to note that whatever the time or the manner that Kay will utilize at a time, her pictorial path is always oriented towards the same search: the “Self”. Wherever she goes, a pictorial aspect is always present. Kay knows where she is going. Art comes along and guides her through her travels. She had the chance to cross the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, sail on the mythical Ketch “Kriter” (and yet she is afraid of water!) She has also visited Paraguay and crossed paths again with Martinique and Congo. She escaped from death 3 times, and saw it from up close. She even had “modified states of consciousness experiences.” Another way to travel...

All these experiences internally and gradually enlightened her as can be seen in her paintings. In French Polynesia, in search of spirituality, she developed a special interest in “Marae”, God shrines, and she attended some rituals. She studied Tahitian traditions, tattoos and ornamentation. She took notes and made thousands of drawings. One of them even ended up being shown on a collectible stamp! She also began to exhibit. But as she did not feel custodian of this large heritage, she bequeathed all her work and returned to live in the Caribbean. In Martinique, she composed an anthem for 40 choir singers and drew the Marianne of overseas territories acquired by the President of the French Republic. She was even convened to the Elysee! In 1992, she finally discovered Saint Barths and permanently settled there. Kay became an internationally recognized painter and started selling worldwide: Australia, the U.S., Germany, etc. Her lifestyle changed. She also opened one of the first galleries on the island: “L’Espace 21”. A precursor, she contacted the biggest auction houses in the world and brought works from Armand, Picasso, Leonor Fini and Caesar whom she personally met. She organized the first auction on the island! All her adventures and encounters have influenced and changed her way of painting. She has had several tendencies in a row: naive, pointillist, realistic or spiritual eventually leading to figure abstractive, carried by the look and vision of a great painter who believed in her: Michael Turovski. The latter explained that it is not necessary to seek to achieve perfection. This was a revelation to Kay. She realized that finally painting Love and Light and trying to get in touch with the Other is essential. Her goal became to paint without suffering or violence to find something broader and more encompassing, perceiving that truth is necessarily hidden somewhere in another dimension. Then she plunged into the work, sold her gallery and began an ambitious creative process. Many other painters might have been lost at the time, in an obtuse or inclined spirit of mysticism. Not Kay! Information presented itself and consumed her. She tried to understand. Her answer was Cartesian! After an extraordinary meeting with astrophysicist Panayotis Charitos, she embarked on the study of the infinitely large and the infinitely small. In search of the Self through the information in Astrophysics: Bosons, Neutrinos, particles, black holes, gravitational waves, Planck wall, quantum mechanics, double causality, space and time, everything! She even met the CERN team, the giant Franco-Swiss particle accelerator. Its ultimate goal: To transcribe the movement of the elementary particles between inspiration and mathematics through its artistic achievements

and to share the bond that exists between the Consciousness and the Universe in order to discover what unites us all = the Self. She files an international patent on her latest creation: “The Walls of Light”, which define the multi-dimensions of the Being within us. The multi-layers of this translucent wall are for her the stages of our consciousness in different but yet simultaneous dimensions. She filed an international patent on her latest creation: “Walls of Light”, which define the multi dimensions of Being in us. She believes the multi layers of the translucent wall are stages of our consciousness in different yet simultaneous sizes. This «Wall of Light» was inaugurated on February 17, 2017 in front of the courtyard of the Saint Barth’ Collectivity Hall. As you can understand, Kay Quattrocchi is a truly UFO of painting, an alien. And if you want to have a good time for sure, look at her paintings, or even better! Go and look at her studio. But beware, her time scale is different from yours... Special thanks and Applause to whom participated in this beautiful adventure of the St. Barts’ “Wall of Light”, that is to say: Mr. President Bruno Magras and the elected members of the Executive Council, Mrs. Micheline Jacques, Mrs. Nelly Questel, Mr. Thierry Aron and Mr. Stéphane Crozatier, who ensured the smooth running of the work, Mrs. Solange Turbé, Sonia, thank you also to the two carpenters who built the workshop in just two days! Thanks also to those who contributed greatly to the realization of the “Wall of Light”: Congratulations to the ODP team: Mr. Olivier Dain, Mr. Hugues Bousquet, Miss Amélie Huart. Also with Mr. Alain Schittly ACSplexi, The company “Ramos Construction” with its executive owner Mr. Ramiro Sampaio Ramos and his Xmen who had the incredible strength to lift 350 kilos for each plate so she could paint each of them on both sides, Francky Capellini at Siam who completed a real work of art with this stainless steel rail that supports the sculpture, Mr. Vincent Cantatore for the Light! Kay Quattrocchi says it herself: “This achievement has put us all in Joy, so the work was done with precision and a magical lightness for a sculpture of three tons! It made us all very happy…and I hope that people who will see it, will be as happy as we feel to do it together, special thanks to you all”

Many other painters might have been lost at the time, in an obtuse or inclined spirit of mysticism. Not Kay!

WELCOME TO LE SERENO Dear Friends, Welcome to Le Sereno, we are extremely happy to host you in our brand-new hotel. Le Sereno story starts the 70’s, when Mr. Sereno and Lino Ventura, his friend from St Tropez decided to build one of the first hotels in St Barth. Our family completely remade the hotel in 2005 tapping the exceptional talents of Parisian designer Christian Liaigre, lighting designer Arnold Chan, and landscape architect Fernando Tabora inspired a chic, contemporary look. Then in September 2017 Hurricane Irma ravaged the island and damaged the hotel. After assessing the damage, we decided not only to repair, but to demolish and improve more than half of the rooms, and to completely restore the others. However, in making these great changes, we didn’t want to change the style and spirit so beloved by our clients, plus ça change, plus c’est la meme chose. So, we built the new pool, deck and restaurant roof identical to the old ones, demolished and rebuild rooms 1-19 from scratch, added the new Suite Piscine category, built a new SPA, new Gym and did a gut-renovation of all our Grand Suite Plage. We did all this maintaining the style of Le Sereno, a style that can now be seen all over St Barth. Often copied, but never equaled! We hope that you have a fantastic stay with us, and that you come back soon! Sincerely, Luis Contreras Owner

Il Sereno is the result of a five year construction project at the magical town or Torno, Italy, on the stunning shores of Lake Como. Our hotel owner, Luis Contreras, envisioned the same concept as in Le Sereno St Barthelemy; an open feel and relaxed luxury to the Lake. Partnering with Wallpaper designer of the year, Patricia Urquiola, allowed Mr. Contreras to create a hotel that brings you closer to nature through its breathtaking views and magical surroundings as well as the natural materials used in its interiors and exteriors. Il Sereno features 30 waterfront suites, a 60 foot heated infinity pool, a world class spa with products and treatments by Swiss house; Valmont, epic botanical creations by the infamous Patrick Blanc, as well as the most refined details in contemporary design and style by Patricia Urquiola.

Located just a boat ride away, lies a harmonious complement to il Sereno Lake Como; Villa Pliniana, a stunning 16th century Italian Palazzo set on 18 waterfront acres on the legendary Lake. Followed by her impeccable dedication at il Sereno, Patricia Urquiola re-designed selected interiors at the villa which features 10-18 bedrooms, a private boat dock, and helicopter landing pad, spa, enchanting gardens and Sereno Hotels services. The villa is one of the oldest on the lake and has witnessed historic characters such as Napoleon, Leonardo Da Vinci and Gioachino Rossini who composed the Opera Tancredi in 1813 using the villa’s piano, which still rests at the same spot where he once sat.

The glistening waters of the lake as backdrop, lush gardens and stunning ballrooms not only makes our villa the perfect location for families and groups stays but also the most luxurious event venue in the lake Como area.

He has been published in and continues to shoot for the world’s top fashion and men’s lifestyle magazines such as Elle, Harper’s Baazar, Esquire, GQ Maxim, Sports Illustrated, Vogue, and more. Consequently, he has photographed the biggest celebrities and supermodels. A.V attended France’s prestigious E.S.C. business school. After graduating, he started his career on the other side of the camera as a host for a popular French television show. He used this as an advantage to transition into fashion photography . His big break came in the late sos when he traveled between NY and LA to capture intimate and personal portraits of budding “supermodels” within their homes. Among these

models were Linda Evangelista, Stephanie Seymour, Claudia Schiffer, and Cindy Crawford. All of A.V’s black and white photos and interviews were published in French Elle, as well as in several international editions. Verglas is the master of extracting natural beauty and charm from otherwise sexy and enticing photos. His technique to find lighting that embellishes the subject and enhance their beauty has become known as the “Verglas Signature”. Inspired by certain photographers like Peter Lindberg, Patrick Demarchelier, and Herb Ritts, A.V likes “true, natural beauty,” which he aims to convey through lingerie and swimwear shoots, but also fashion and beauty. A.V spends his time between St. Barth, East Hampton, Paris, and New York City. He has two sons, Julien and Adrien. In 2008, after selling Calypso St. Barth, he and Christiane Celle co-founded the concept store, Clic Gallery. Verglas has published two books of his work: SHOWGIRL (Gravure 2011) and Untitled (Clic 2013). Verglas continues to shoot for campaigns and magazines, and is working on a new book.

Shipwrecked... These photos of the Green Iguana document Mother Nature, still at work, shaping the Caribbean islands with mystery and magic. The species is new to Sint Maarten/St Martin. They have been here for about 20 years and without natural predators, they are increasingly abundant. There are many stories about their arrival. The best story explains that they were brought here by the massive Hurricane Luis in 1995. Luis was 1,000 kilometers wide with winds of 300 kilometers per hour, the worst storm since legendary Hurricane Donna in 1960. Luis caused catastrophic damage on Sint Maarten/ St Martin. Marines from a Dutch Warship, the HNLMS Van Amstel, to the roar of her helicopters, helped build

a tent village to shelter 10,000 people and the island was closed to visitors for 3 months. Sint Maarten’s largest and longtime flagship hotel, Mullet Bay Beach Hotel, never reopened.

thousands that were shot in the wild, candidly, from a distance of 15-40 meters through some near perfect optical equipment over a period of a few years.

It is said that our Green Iguanas came here from Guadeloupe, 250 kilometers to the south, during this storm. Hanging on to scraps of floating vegetation, like all natural small wooden rafts, bobbing up and down, blown like seeds, to the north, across the raging open ocean. To the lucky few who survived the voyage, and made landfall on our shores, SM/ SM was the New World.

As we spent more and more time watching them through the glass, really up close, we got to see things we would never have been able to see with the naked eye. We got to learn about their behavior and habits. We soon found ourselves trying to predict their movements and almost willing them to perform, in an effort to capture their unique behavioral characteristics - scratching, yawning, sneezing, or courting and more, sometimes drawn out and sometimes visible only for a split second and gone in the blink of an eye.

The first lesson is that most Green Iguanas are usually only green when they are very young. But some of those are so green as to be blinding, greener than almost anything else that you can see in nature. The older animals can be seen wearing coats of many colours, greens, purples, pinks, blues, greys, browns, turquoise, white and bright screaming orange. Ghislaine and I built a hideout and these photos are taken from tens of

Once you have the location secured and all the equipment set up and triple checked, what you need most to take these photographs is time, endless time, supported by a burning interest and infinite patience. ST August 2017
