CHAMBRES ET SUITES Même si les chambres de l’hôtel ont différentes configurations, les chambres du Ritz-Carlton Montréal présentent toutes une philosophie de design d’ensemble qui intègrent élégamment le nouveau à l’ancien. Les foyers en marbre dans plusieurs suites appartiennent à l’hôtel d’origine de 1912 alors qu’une finition moderne et luxueuse vient d’être ajoutée lors de la récente restauration. En plus de se souvenir des préférences de température des clients à l’arrivée, les chambres comprennent aussi des détecteurs qui activent les lumières de façon à guider les clients dans les chambres obscures.
ROOMS AND SUITES While the hotel has many different room configurations, Ritz-Carlton Montreal’s guestrooms all feature an overall design philosophy that elegantly integrates the old with the new. The marble fireplaces in many suites are original to the 1912 hotel, while the luxurious and modern finishes were added during the recent restoration. Many rooms and suites have hardwood flooring, while the rest are laid out with 100 per cent wool, 48-pile carpeting. In addition to remembering a guest’s temperature preferences upon check-in, the rooms also feature motion sensors that activate lights to guide guests in a darkened room.

Puis, lorsque arrivera le 17 mai, date anniversaire de la fondation de Montréal, le pont Jacques-Cartier, l’un des trois grands ponts reliant l’île de Montréal à la Rive-Sud, s’illuminera. Il prendra vie à travers une œuvre à la fois vivante et vibrante, dont les sursauts lumineux suivront les saisons et le pouls des Montréalais pour faire de ce pont l’épiderme sensible et scintillant de leur ville.
À l’automne, dès le 9 novembre, le Musée d’Art contemporain de Montréal présentera une exposition hommage à Leonard Cohen, ce monument de la culture montréalaise décédé en novembre 2016. Alliant des artistes montréalais, canadiens et internationaux provenant des arts visuels, de la performance, de la musique, de l’écriture et du cinéma, cette exposition pluridisciplinaire offrira au public des œuvres inédites, inspirées des grandes thématiques de l’œuvre de Cohen. Toujours en novembre, la Symphonie du jeu vidéo de Montréal, donnera un ton des plus modernes aux festivités, présentant un spectacle multimédia durant lequel les musiciens de l’Orchestre Métropolitain interpréteront les thèmes de jeux vidéo marquants ayant été produits à Montréal. Du 19 au 21 mai 2017, Montréal accueillera Les Géants. Durant ces quelques jours, des êtres hauts de cinq étages, manipulés par pas moins de cinquante personnes, couvriront la ville de leur poésie monumentale et touchante, semant l’émerveillement sur leur passage. Leur pas lourd marquera assurément l’imaginaire collectif et permettra aux amoureux de Montréal qui seront sur place de voir la ville se transformer en un gigantesque théâtre à ciel ouvert. La saison estivale, qui est toujours extrêmement vivante à Montréal, donnera cette année dans l’extravagance, l’exubérance et la démesure. À l’été 2017, à coups de festivals, de tournées des quartiers, d’expositions et de spectacles, la ville s’éclatera comme jamais ! Un spectacle, entre autres, attirera particulièrement l’attention. Il s’agit d’Avudo, une impressionnante installation faite de projections 3D sur des écrans d’eau qui sera présentée tout l’été, dans le Vieux-Port, dès le coucher du soleil. Cette création du grand metteur en scène Daniele Finzi Pasca saura célébrer le fleuve – artère vitale de la vie et de l’histoire montréalaises – comme il se doit. Le mois de juillet sera aussi particulièrement chaud dans son ensemble, puisque pas moins d’une soixantaine de troupes de théâtre de rue provenant de six pays envahiront les rues de Montréal. Quelques 800 spectacles seront donnés en plein-air, par une centaine d’artistes, faisant de cet événement de théâtre de rue, le plus grand jamais tenu en Amérique du Nord.
C’est d’ailleurs l’ensemble de la programmation automnale qui sera tournée vers l’avenir et fera la part belle à l’innovation et aux nouvelles technologies, invitant à la fête ceux dont le talent et la vision sauront dessiner le Montréal de demain. 2017 sera donc une année excitante et pleine de surprises, tant pour les Montréalais que pour les amoureux de la ville qui sont de passage. À travers sa culture, ses lieux, son histoire et ses gens, à travers des festivités à grande échelle, Montréal offrira toute sa vivacité à qui veut bien y goûter. D’autant plus que cette année marquera également le 50e anniversaire d’Expo67 ! Un second anniversaire auquel une multitude d’expositions viendront rendre hommage. Bref, s’il y a une année entre toutes pour visiter Montréal et s’en émerveiller, c’est en 2017. Ne manquez surtout pas ça !

The city of Montreal was founded on May 17th, 1642 and will be celebrating its 375th anniversary in 2017. Thanks to a highly diversified program of events synchronized with the four seasons, Montreal will treat its residents and visitors to a wide range of activities and celebrations. From families to thrill seekers, history buffs to culture lovers, everyone is sure to find something to ignite their passions amongst the 175 special events on the program. The year kicks off with the winter portion of the festivities. Montrealers grow up in the snow, and after centuries of conquering and taming the season, the time to celebrate it has come! With winter as the theme, more than a dozen activities will entice people to embrace their northern spirit and come outside to play. With the arrival of May 17th – the city’s official birthday – the JacquesCartier Bridge, one of the three major bridges linking the Island of Montreal to the South Shore, will light up and come to life by way of an installation,
In the fall, starting November 9, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal will present a tribute exhibition to Leonard Cohen, a local cultural icon who passed away in November 2016. Bringing together Montreal, Canadian and international artists from the fields of the visual arts, performance, music, writing and film, this multidisciplinary exhibition will offer the public brand-new work, inspired by the main themes in Cohen’s creative oeuvre. Also in November, the Montreal Video Game Symphony will lend a distinctly modern tone to the festivities by way of a multimedia show, featuring the musicians of the Metropolitan Orchestra interpreting the themes of major video games produced in Montreal.

From May 19 to 21, 2017, Montreal will welcome The Giants. Over several days, these 5-story-tall beings, controlled by no fewer than 50 people, will spread their monumental, heartfelt poetry throughout the city, sowing wonder all along the way. Their massive footprints will surely spark the collective imagination as Montrealers see their city transformed into a gigantic open-air theatre. The summer season, always an extremely vibrant time in Montreal, will become even more extravagant, exuberant and over-the-top. The summer of 2017 will explode with festivals, neighbourhood tours, exhibits and shows! One spectacle in particular will grab attention: Avudo is an impressive installation made of 3D projections on water screens that will be presented in Old Montreal throughout the summer, beginning at sunset. The creation, by the great director Daniele Finzi Pasca, will celebrate the river – vital artery of Montreal life and history – as it should be. The month of July is set to be just as lively thanks to no fewer than 60 street theatre troupes from six countries that will take over the streets of Montreal. Some 800 outdoor shows will be performed by 100 artists, making this street theatre event the largest ever held in North America.
