EMPIRE STATE OF MIND

EXPLORING THE EXQUISITE

LEADING THE WAY

The welcoming glow of Cellini Jewelers’ Waldorf-Astoria boutique exudes a deep appreciation for all things precious. Freestanding glass cabinets gleam with imaginatively designed, impeccably crafted jewelry creations organized by gemstone. Diamonds of all colors populate one island, while another is reserved for the vibrant fire reflecting from their white counterparts. Nearby, a rich assortment of gems and pearls — assembled from sources around the world — are used to create handmade showpieces that feature everything from Burmese rubies and Kashmir sapphires to South Sea pearls and alexandrite, the exceedingly rare Russian gem whose color changes in natural light. Stepping away from the jewelry collection, the curious explorer is transported to yet another world, one brimming with the crème de la crème of the luxury watch world. The space is lined with exhibition cases that house an unparalleled range of mechanical timepieces from more than two dozen of the world’s best-known and most-exotic watchmakers.

Leon Adams, Cellini’s founder and president, has always been passionate about haute horlogerie. In 1977, it led him to open his first showroom in the Waldorf-Astoria, where his collection of hard-to-find timepieces struck a chord with a growing group of American collectors, who were rediscovering the art of mechanical watchmaking. As Cellini’s reputation grew through the years, so did its collection, which was one of the first in America to include brands like A. Lange & Söhne, Audemars Piguet, De Bethune, Franck Muller, Hublot and Richard Mille. As proof of the company’s influential standing in the watchmaking world, Cartier selected Cellini to be one of only four U.S. dealers authorized to carry Cartier’s Fine Watchmaking Collection. A veteran of countless watch fairs in Basel and Geneva, Adams has seen trends come and go, deepening his perspective and sharpening his ability to quickly separate the timely from the timeless. That keen eye, fueled by his genuine excitement for the art of horology, is why watch collectors trust Cellini. “We’re constantly looking for new and innovative watchmakers, but we’re extremely selective about who we represent,” he explains. “Finding a brand that produces unique watches isn’t enough. The watches — and the watch company — must be built to last. Quality is foremost in everything we do at Cellini.” Today, Cellini covers the spectrum of haute horlogerie with a phenomenal collection that appeals to all types of horological enthusiasts, from budding aficionados in search of their first fine timepiece, to savvy collectors who prize the extensive selection of rare watches, the likes of which you will not find anywhere else. “The depth of our collection means you can find what you want, when you want it,” Adams says. “That selection is what sets us apart and the reason people keep coming back.”

NATURAL RADIANCE At Cellini’s Madison Avenue boutique, light streams through expansive windows, filling its open, modern interior with a natural radiance. The intimate space, opened in 1987, is home to an expertly curated collection that brings luxury to a human scale and pace. Though behind glass, the jewelry and timepieces seem to erase any barriers between them and their admirers by sheer force of personality. The gems (both horological and otherwise) project an air of approachability from their eye-level perches on the wall behind the counters, coaxing even the casual shopper to consider taking a natural or mechanical marvel in his or her hands. On the rare occasion that a jewelry customer cannot find their heart’s desire on Cellini’s shelves, a custom-made design can always make their dreams come true. Cellini’s gemologists, designers and craftsmen combine expertise and artistry to satisfy any request, from tailoring a bespoke piece to redesigning a treasured heirloom. “Whether you want to create something new, or make something old new again, our collection and creativity make anything possible,” Adams says.

The tourbillon cage appears to float inside the Rotonde de Cartier Mysterious Double Tourbillon. The flying tourbillon not only rotates once every minute, but the entire mechanism also orbits the mystery dial once every five minutes.

THE PERFECT FIT

With two locations in the heart of New York City, Cellini continues to build upon its reputation by offering an unparalleled collection of the world’s best timepieces, fine jewelry, and unsurpassed personal service.

But merchandise is far from the only reason the most discerning connoisseurs opt for Cellini. A knowledgeable staff at both locations provides impeccable service before, during and after a purchase. Cellini’s horological specialists live and breathe watches, and draw upon this wealth of knowledge to help each watch lover find the perfect fit. For those enchanted instead by shimmering works of art, Cellini’s jewelry experts put a world of exquisite beauty at your fingertips. The experience they provide puts the emphasis on the client’s needs. While many customers know exactly what they want, some are uncertain or hesitant. It is for them that the Cellini staff shines brightest. “Selecting a fine piece of jewelry or your first luxury watch is definitely a process; you don’t just come in and buy it. Getting to know our customers and understanding their expectations is key to assisting them in making educated decisions,” says Adams. “We take a great deal of satisfaction in helping our clients make a decision that is best for them.” Irresistible jewels, sophisticated horology, inviting venues and dedicated staff — it’s no wonder that after nearly three and a half decades Cellini continues to be one of the most respected and successful boutiques of its kind. In this wildly competitive city, where storefronts, skylines and styles change as often as the weather, Cellini’s longevity is a testament to the power of an irreplaceable experience. ¨

ewelry is so much more than something beautiful to wear. It has a history, a story behind it that we carry each time we wear it, adding to that story as we make our own.

Family owned and operated since our beginning in March 1976, we at Louis Martin Jewelers believe in the importance of tradition and heritage. In addition to our already existing collection of fine jewelry, we boast a unique collection of antique and vintage jewelry and watches. One piece takes you back to the bold lines and luxury of the Art Deco, another to the inspiring nature of the Art Nouveau era. Others play with the intrigue and romance inspiring Victorian and Edwardian designs. Unique and one of a kind, antique and vintage pieces are the perfect way to share a little bit of the past as you celebrate your present and envision your future.

LUXURY OCEANFRONT RESIDENCES DEVELOPED BY CHATEAU GROUP

The Spirit of Innovation

At Ulysse Nardin, innovation is the very reason for the brand’s existence. The Le Locle manufacturing company, which has been at the forefront of research and development since it was founded in 1846, has not only made its mark on its own history, but on that of mechanical watchmaking as a whole. Ulysse Nardin is the recipient of 4,300-plus watchmaking awards including 18 gold medals and the greatest number of patents in mechanical watchmaking. Ulysse Nardin’s timeline is punctuated by inventions and world firsts. As early as 1862, the company’s founder secured the Holy Grail at the London Universal Exhibition — the Prize Medal in the complicated watch category. The award not only attested to the excellence of its marine and pocket-chronometers, it also heralded the pioneering spirit of the brand in the 21st century: the first to develop a silicium escapement; to produce a diamond balance-spring, and to offer an escapement without the traditional pallets and pallet-wheel. Ulysse Nardin also presented the first watch with a diamond escapement and, one year later, the first Diamond Coated Silicium (DiamonSil) escapement. Here again, Ulysse Nardin was the first to use silicium as a matrix on which to grow diamond crystal. Silicium is an extremely light but hard material that eliminates friction and removes the need for lubrication of the escapement – the watchmaker’s holy grail. It is a nanotechnology which has taken many years to develop.

The Latest Innovation. The new Ulysse Anchor Escapement reveals a hitherto unknown construction that tests the physical limits of materials. The silicium device, based on the principle of flexible materials, uses the elasticity of blade springs to dispense with the pivot of the pallet arms leaving them literally suspended in space. It’s truly revolutionary. Steadfast in its journey to remain in the lead, Ulysse Nardin looks to its own universe to plot its course and continues in the spirit of innovation.

The Freak. The iconic Freak, introduced in 2001, was a game changer in haute horology. Due to the ultramodern, minimalist and unconventional design of the Freak’s tourbillon carrousel – one that possessed no true dial, crown or hands – and being the first timepiece to successfully present escapement wheels constructed of silicium, the Freak forever changed the course of haute horology.

Moonstruck. The Moonstruck simulates the rotation of the Moon around the Earth, as well as the apparent movement of the Sun around the globe. This permits the determination of the current moon phase in relation to any location in the world. The Moonstruck also shows the global dynamics of tides that depend upon the gravitational effects of Moon and Sun.

Perpetual Manufacture Crafted in celebration of infinity, the new Perpetual Manufacture features the most advanced perpetual calendar in the history of watchmaking. Allowing the date to be adjusted both forward and backward, this mechanical gem naturally accommodates the ebb and flow of time – in perpetuity. As a constant reminder, the dial is stamped with the symbol “∞”.

Marine Chronometer Manufacture. Ulysse Nardin defies time by extending its iconic collection of marine watches with a timepiece powered by Caliber UN-118, a technological gem. Manufactured entirely in-house with its beating heart of silicium and DIAMonSIL, the Marine Chronometer Manufacture reminds us that traditional know-how and confident inventiveness reflects the ideology of Ulysse Nardin: to ensure its creations have the touch of eternity they deserve.

Sonata Streamline Chime into the future. Inspired by the aerodynamic aesthetic of superyachts, the Sonata Streamline reveals a strong and streamlined case with two available dial versions that is powerfully masculine. The case, exquisitely fashioned from titanium, presents one option paired with ceramic – a material unmatched in durability – and gold, and the other paired with 18-karat rose gold.

Skeleton Tourbillon The interplay of light and innovation. Ulysse Nardin unveils its first timepiece featuring an exclusive skeleton tourbillon caliber. Skeletonizing is a subtle art that requires both watchmaking know-how and an artistic sensibility. The aim is to reveal the inner workings of the movement by reducing the structure of components to a bare minimum, allowing light to penetrate freely through. This is a brilliant example of this endeavor.

Dual Time Manufacture. Born from an iconic line, the Dual Time Manufacture enables the second time zone and date to be adjusted both forward and backward. Endowed with a Big Date double window display, also adjustable in both directions, it boasts a silicium escapement, the height of watchmaking technology that very few brands are able to master.

Stranger - When Time Becomes Music. Ulysse Nardin takes watch collectors by surprise once again. The first in this series of limited edition timepieces plays the melody “Strangers in the Night” — the legendary song made in 1966. In development for more than five years, it is a watchmaking marvel: a marriage of movement, design and music brought forth by great minds and imagination.

The Chronometry_

In each part of the globe, a difference in rating compared with that of Geneva is normal: the gauging of the chronometers changes, but not its precision. The proof: when a timepiece gains two seconds per days and maintains the same gain every day, this actually confirms its extreme precision. When navigating in the past, captains used to take into account the deviation of their chronometer and integrate it into their calculations to determine the ship’s position. If the chronometer showed a deviation corresponding to a one-second gain per day, all that was needed after 30 days was to subtract 30 seconds in order to know the exact time, and so on for each day... ince its creation, Opera Gallery has been promoting the works of Bernard Buffet, a wellknown Expressionist painter and member of the anti-abstract art group ‘l’Homme Témoin’. A prolific artist, Buffet’s lifetime was marked by tremendous commercial success alongside institutional scorn, though his distinct style is inarguable in influence and has inspired posthumous critical acclaim. Today, the artist’s work is featured in the most prestigious modern art collections in the world including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Museum of Modern Art, Paris and the Tretiakov Gallerie in Moscow. An utterly unique artist, Bernard Buffet is one of those rare creators who held steadfast to his own style throughout the changing, and often antagonistic, landscape of postwar painting. Fiercely impactful and remarkably timeless, a growing global interest in Buffet’s work continues to shed light on the artist’s illustrious five-decade career, revealing a diversity, transformation and drama that resonate as much today as it did fifty years ago. With rising auction prices and a growing number of institutions fascinated by Buffet’s life and career, we are proud to be at the forefront of this artist’s resurgence in the global art arena.

ounded in 1994 by French art dealer Gilles Dyan, today Opera Gallery Group is comprised of twelve stunning, centrally located exhibition spaces in Paris, London, Monaco, Geneva, Singapore, Seoul, Hong Kong, Dubai, Beirut, New York and Miami. Since its inception Opera Gallery has presented a program of major modern and contemporary works by predominately established artists, showcasing its expansive collection of 19th and 20th century art in dialogue with a contemporary visual language. Realized through an annual program of exhibition both in its gallery spaces and in public institutions, Opera Gallery has hosted a wide range of exhibitions by international artists including masters Marc Chagall, Alexander Calder, Jean Dubuffet and Fernando Botero, as well as international contemporary artists AndrĂŠ Brasilier, Valay Shende, Michael Mapes and Bakh Seon Ghi. With each exhibition accompanied by a printed catalogue including curatorial essays, interviews and historical surveys, Opera Gallery helps to engage its clients in the joy of learning and contextualizing the works on display. Often exhibiting Masters works alongside international contemporary artists and movements, they are dedicated to creating a dialogue that speaks of the vivacity and continuous evolution of art history.

G

illes Dyan is a French art dealer, founder and chairman of Opera Gallery Group. Starting out as a self-made, independent art dealer in the 1970s, Gilles Dyan began focusing primarily on 19th and 20th century art in the 1990s, a path facilitated through personal relationships with the estates of Marc Chagall, Fernando Botero and Bernard Buffet. Today, Gilles Dyan is one of only thirty-eight people certified as an Expert in European Contemporary Painting by the European Chamber of Art Experts. In 1994 he founded Opera Gallery with an exhibition space in Singapore, followed closely thereafter by a space in Paris. With the help of an art fund established in 2002, Gilles Dyan succeeded in acquiring a vast collection of fine art pieces that enabled the meteoric growth of the gallery network. In the early 2000s Gilles Dyan began identifying and cultivating local contemporary artists through his global network, a move that has become a substantial entity of the gallery network that now represents a unique collection of international emerging artists.
