2009 - [ ISOVER - SUSTAINABLE AND PASSIVE DESIGN - REHABILITATION ] This task of the competition was to reconvert an old house in the Pantin suburbia of Paris by passive and sustainable standars. The story of this project it is related to the fact that we wanted to keep the same shape of the building, two twin boxes, meantime adding a new image to the old whearehouse. It all began when we saw a lot of pictures of building and the conclusion was that the building it’s an important element in the area, basically we’ve called it an “industrial icon”. This way we just add some color in the shape of vertical blinds, that are movable and keep the building from overheating in the summer and they maintaind open in the winter, leting the light inside. The building is beeing designed in detail to acomplish the sustenabil, energy recovering, energy eficient, and acoustics standards demanded by the competition.

2010 - [ MINI OPERA INSPIRED BY BRANCUSI - WORKSHOP ] This is a very interesting project! Professor Tetsuo Furuichi was invited to start an workshop that was called theatrical and temporary architecure. The theme for the theatrial architecture was the opera play that it’s called Tosca by Giacomo Puccini and evolves along 3 acts. One of the most interesting challenges was that the scene design must be Inspired from Brancusi works and style, this way the workshop ended being called:“BRANCUSI INSPIRED MOVABLE MINI OPERA”. The site was our responsabiliti to choose and we selected a place that is called “The English Pasage” and it is a coverd street, like an atrium with balconies - that we transformed in loggia’s, and it links two important streets in the city. Right now the pasage is in a bad condition and it has a lot of potential so we belived that it was a very good aproach for the area and a good location for this workshop. The hardest part was to link the opera Tosca to the “Bracusi inspired” part of the project. So we keept the significant elements form each act, like for example the cross - for the part where the action is held in a church and we link this type of simbols to the Brancusi aproach reagarding sculpture : the esence. By doing so we ended up wining the best design in the workshop and the students vote for the best proposal.

_UNDERSTANDING
The site chosen fot the theatrical play is characteristic for the Bucharest building typology and it’s often found in the urban tissue that dates back from 1920 - 1940. The space is actualy a pasage linking two urban circulations witch also serves as an atrium. At first this construction was an english hotel built in 1885 but the function wasn’t very popular because of the smal rooms and narow hall ways. in time this pasage had many functions from nesting homeless people to beeing almost complety deserted. Today the pasage is hard to find from both entrances beacuse of the liter and garbage blocking the way. The pasage is actyally 27 meters long, 5 meters wide and has a hight of 14 meters.
2009 [ ISOVER - SUSTENABILE AND PASSIVE DESIGN - OFFICE BUILDING ] This is a competition for the Isover company and they wanted a office building for 60 persons and it should be designed acording to the passive and sustenabile standards. We choose to design a simple shape building, to be more specific a box. We did this beacuse this is a very stabile shape to control regarding the passive conditions. By building a box that is an office building we thought to add some green on the office vizual space and so we added some gardens on the facade. We call them the “green buffers” and they do their part in bringing fresh oxigen to the air, the building beeing ventilated naturaly trough an atrium. The green element can be found on the roof where thre is a roof-garden that protects the building from overheating and offers an relaxation place for emplyers during the lunch break. The building also is beeing designed in detail to acomplish the sustenabil, energy recovering, energy eficient, and acoustics standards demanded by the competition. With this we won on the international phase best presentation in a competition with 16 countries because we talked about the story behind the project and not the project. We alsos reached number 4 as finalist international stage. National stage the project won 1’st prize.

Color pixels is the name of thie project and this story begins in 2008 when takeing a visit on the competition site the idea came up when we discussed about doing some pixel-color-map of the site to see a posibile color map for that area. In fact the competition was about urban lightening and the main chalange was to make a signal out of the park entrance. So we did this by take a closer look at the night colors of that area and we came up with this idea that therea is a lack of color lighetinig in the area and mainly in
the park entrance. The site felt like there was no colored pixel in the area and it felt kind of depresing for a park entrance. This way we created some color pixels in the shape of an urban lightening object that is going to be fixed in the main walkway. By doing this we made it optional that the pixel coult roll-over comercials or using diferetn systems it can display animantion comercials or whaterver is needed to be placed inside. Color-pixeling the entrace we make it a shure signal in an poor colored area.
After choosing this approach the jury decided to award the project 1st prize and the compay promised to complete the project but there where a lot of problems with the papers and approvals and the whole thind ended up by beeing to complicated. In the end it was a lot of fun doing this project.

THE PROBLEM : the light skin of bucarest is a very gray one, this can be observed by night time and by day time. The high percentage of colors like gray, brown, dark yelow can create an “color depresion”, and more important is the fact that in this color enviroment there are few bright and pure color tones. By doing a color study the result for the proposed area of the contest waz that in the day - time the area is dominated by a gray tone color that is sed by the walk - way and the building. During night - time, the area is colored by a dark brown - yellow light from the city lighteing.
THE RESPONSE : the fact that there are introduced colored pixels in an low color area is a respinse to the color analysis done in the area. The color were inspired by Andy Warhol and Pop Art. The contest task was to mark the entrance to the park, the colorful pixels insertetd in the gray walkway are just the right solution for the city lightening of the entrance in the park near the City - Hall. The square pixel can use Leed lighteining sistems, EL sistem for comercial use or just a simple light tube for color ilumination.
PROPOSAL : the pixels color - intereact with the sidewalk , this way they intersect with the circulation flow and the park entrance is like a pixel vortex, an area that could have the potential to create an iconic spot : “ we will meet at the pixels spot!”. The pixel proposal could be enlarged and it can be sorted out like an pixel invasion of the parc and the near areas, mainly heaving the role of announcing the park entrance.
2007 [ UNDERGOUND GRASS IT COMPETITION - BUCHAREST ] This project is telling the sad story of the metro stations in Bucharest and the lack of interest in green space in general. The competition was all about green space insertat in the areas where there was no green and it is needed. It all began when i remeberd the sad mornings i had to spend in the station in my neighborhood waiting fot the metro. The old dark yelow stones layer on the floor, the old metal celing and the whole athmosphere leed to a boring and unhappy feeling. So when this competition was anounced this was the first site that i thought off because it could be upgraded to a more interesting place. The project motto is a question: is grass greener on the other side?Yes it is! Because we just flip the horisontal grass that can be found on the outside so it can be found on the inside, only upside-down. This is more interesting when we have artificial wind that is created by the metro and it moves through the upside-down grass in the ceeling. I belive that is an interesting image. The jurry thought alsow and they gave the project 3re prize. This was the first competition ever...it was a good start.

//UNDERGROUND GREEN - the main idea of this project is that green space can not be found in the underground stations inside the city. Taking into consideration the contest tasks that were refering to the fact that we must insert more green space into the city, we came up with the idea that the subway is the most green - less public space in the city. So we found a underground staton and we simply flip the green, that is why the grass is on the roof of the station. By doing so when the subway metro is entering the station the grass that can be found on the celing is beeing moved by the underground wind and so it is obtained movement similar to that of a wide field of grass blown by the wind, only this time the grass is upside down.
// the sistem is modular and it can be replaced
// proposal for the sistem that is holding the grass upside - down
// water can reach the grass from the outside or through the water pipes
THE SUBWAY STATION TEXTURE by doing some color study of the metro underground station it is clear that therea area only dark grey colors and there is a lack of green space. This all dark and depressing color are bad for the traveler and we belive that by introduceing green intro this enviroment we will generate a green space and more fun to the station.
THE GRASS COULD BE GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE -the idea is more like a guerrilla green movement to insert green in the most dificult public spaces. This is what’s all about. This green island is a good step forward for the green-ing of the city, in a context where there is no green , the project is proposing a green field on the celing.
! d e s i g n the proposal for the undeground green furniture is in linked with the fact that recycling materials are used to build them. The underground furniture is beeing used as relaxing sport and suplying enough space for siting down and green space also.

2008 [ COMPETITION - CONCRETE AS URBAN FURNITURE ] This project was the answer to a competition organized by a concrete company and they wanted to create u rban furniture made out of concrete. The project was a new aproach because we used scripting to create the shape. So it became more like an experiment. Inspired by honeycomb patern, it was writen by that time in vbscript for rhino, today it is very posibile to be completed in Rhino Grasshopper in a more simpel way. So concrete was the material and scripting honeycob was the path it all came out like an urban wall, a separator between walkway and street or just use it like an urban furniture - for me posbile to be used as an urban bookshef. Take into consideration that concrete it is hard to be shaped by honeycomb style the jury and the company did not agreed that the project as beeing in the final 3 projects, but in the final 5. Althow this project was not situated in the first 3 it gained more than any other project beacuse at that time they decided to showoff the final 5 results at the Bucharest Architecture Biennale. By doing this it the first project at the biennale and i was only in the 4th year and this was more then winning the first prise and heaving the designed build.

2010 [ EVOLO COMPETITION - NO FORM SKYSCRAPER ] I belive that this project came up more like an essay. It’s all about architecture and time. The project speculates the fact that a form is no form. The site chosen for this project is the area where the “House of the People” is beeing build in Bucharest, Romania. Take into consideration the relation between the house, the city informational system and history it all came up like a building build upon the extension of the streets, passing trough the time vortex that has a significant historical value to the Romanian peple, more exactly the “House of People” and growing up like an structure that the future is going to be build upon. Understanding the project means that you know something about the “House of the People”, the fact that it is a simbol of the time where the people lost their fredom, and a simbol of decadnt times. Now the building it’s stuck to the city lie a tatoo, like a remembering of a sad period. That is why we belived that extending the city upon the house will bring new life from the inside, a new beginning, a new future, a future where time changes thinghs and shapes and form is not present. The project is presentetd as takeing picture of an fast car, you can see the speed but not the shape that is why it is called no form, because there is no form in speed an time.

2008 [PRESENT COMPETITION - ARCHITECTURE OF PRESENT ] What would be the answer to the present times regarding architecture? I thought that it can be found in the city and it needs an makeup artist.More then 70 % percent of the city has to offer this sad images of the old housing buildings that are no more then building blocks with old facades and a social phenomenon that is going on behin them. The project is revealing the problem to be one that has an bad aproach regarding the city identity. People walk day-by-day on the streets and they have visual contact whit this kind of deteriorated images and that’s why peple are sad and nervous when they are in ths kind of neighborhoods. The project began when after doing some social observation analysis we discovered that every window of every housing building is diferent and that people desire identity and the inside of the apartament has a link with the window of the apartament. By doing so every window is different and the idea was that the project proposed a grid and every apartment to be linked to a proposed new second skin window diferent from eachother. In the end the people that lived in the housing apartments would design theri facades with diferent styles of windows linking their apartment to the ouside world through an identity window. The project was shortlisted and exposed at the National Theatre Bucharest.

2009 [ COMPETITION - SELF SUFICIENT CITY - FOOD BATTERY ] In 2009 the IAAC Barcelona competition desires that architects should give solutions to a sustenabile city, the target was the cities of today visioned 50 yers by now. The story is that after doing some brainstorming a idea poped out about how to grow food in the heart of the city where this will be needed. The project is inspired by a trip to Maroc where there was a lot of ground and sun and wind but no soil to grow food and i the bulding should be selfsustenabile, the food should grow without the use of water because maybe water is a luxury. The idea became a concept that became an poject linked to the fact that it propose a food-battery buidling. This building should be modular, so it can be build easy and it has to be movable. We made up some modules for the solar enery, the growing of vegetables and for wind energy so that they can be combinet regarding the needs or the natural resorces of the area and city. The growing sistem is called hidrophonic and it feeds the plant with minerals trough air not water or eart. The proect didn’t won enything but the it is a vision about bringing food where it is needed by architecture.

We submitet something that inspired us from the roof sistems if the buildings that surround the proposal site. The now riangulated shape protects the triangulated shape and opens the skin like small windows towards the near church. The new shape permits comunication between the courtyard small plazas and the plaza in front of the church and office building. The project is all about createing relations between publc space and semi-public space, that is found inside the site, and mixing triangulated main shape with rising skin towards the city. The project din not won anything but achived a place in the competition catalogue that was offered to the public.

2007 [ ISOVER - SUSTAINABLE AND PASSIVE DESIGN - SCHOOL IN BUCHAREST ] This project was submited in 2008 and was a respons to the competition held up by the Isover Company. The task was to build a school acording to the passive and sustainable standards. Beiing the fact that the site was free to choose we aproached a site that later on that year we proposed an academic project for that area. After doing all the site analysis the U shape was the best aproach regarding school in the area, in the first place it is a signal for the main intersection and by heaving an U shape it creates a big school yard for the kdis to play in. Afer choosing the main volume we decided to colro the school as beeing part of a statemnt in the area so it would be easy to recognise and a easy image for kinds to remember. The project had a long period of documentation, more precise 3 weeks, afther that we build the project in 3 days and sumitted withouth one floor plan and achived special cadet mention and enering the international competition as viewers and not participants. This project proposes an interesting point of view regarding water recipients. Inspired by Brancusi pure form and round edge design we descovered that the first gesture of drinking water was that of two hands held together and the water beeing in a horizontal display. That is whay the vision of this project it going towards the horisontal shape for the water. The bottle is made all out of glass with a metalic head covered alsow in glass. Regarding the fact that the water bottle was horisontal and not wertical the jury did not agree with our design and there where no winnings for this time but a lot people joined this project and i achived more then prises.

I came up with the idea when reading a map, and dicovering that the folding proces is folowing a pattern called MIURA. So this is the name of the project. The patern it can be obtaind by origami process and it has structural proprietaries. After studing the possibilities of generateing the structure i chose the site neae the main Bucharest river called Dambovita. The project proposal is a promenade that at the time does not exist, and this pietonal walkway should have this belvedere places covered by the miura generated shapes. The shape has posibilities to fold and unfold depending on the needs of the site.

2007 [ RESEARCH - WALLPAPER URBAN HOTEL ] This is alsow a school project. The project is inspired ot of an desktop wallpaper but at a bigger scale..the city. The site for the project was take from the general urbanism plans so the area were this hotel is beeing “build does not exist so it was for us to decide the surroundings. So the shape of the buildign is a box tipe, and with the two main important facades perpendicular to the main streets. The projet proposal is regarding the possibility of linking interior with exterior by doing so the facades are the main important wallpapers. In every room the balconies are opend different generated by a patern and simple rule. So a grid facade generated by cell-rooms and semitransparent balconies generates a game play on tha facades similar that interacts wiht the interior of the rooms as they are occupied. By doing so the main facades are iportant as they display the urban wallpaper image.

2009 [ RESEARCH - OFFICE BUILDING - HIGH RISE ] The building is inspired by the stacks concept and this is liked to the fact that the proposed theme for this school project was high rise ofice buidlings. So every office has his box so, and they all ar linked to a green area with the main elevators. The project was inspired by a stack of books that where positioned on my desk. Every book has his specific location in the stack tower and specific characteristics like diferent dimensions and diferent titles. This type of aproach generated the concept that generated the random stack form tower, every office unique and with specific characteristics. The tower base is for public use and it has shoping facilities, a conferince room and lounge and restaurant area, the upper floor are for office space use only. The project was very apreciated because it created a good image link between the city and the tower use and it has a look-a-like of the visual identity of the city, nothing is fit, everything is different but in the end everything fits in the entire background.

So we came up with the idea of two volumes that are concected with a glass volume that supposed to be a interior garden with an inteligent roof that would natural ventilate the whole house. Practically this was the green hear of the house. The two volumes where in good relations with the narow site, one beeing opend towards the lake, with the livign room and the main bedroom. And the other volume opend towards outside garden on the site with the kitchen area and the other two second bedrooms, all this connected on all floors with the interior atrium garde and a metal stair. The solar study is made for one year period time, between 8:00 pm and 17:00 am. This interval was chosen beacuse the sun is generating between 8:00 pm and 17:00 am an considerable amount of solar radiation. In this way the building is being heated on the south side, with one layer of facade, an 3553 Wh/m2/year, and 800 Wh/m2/year on the north side. Using a duble skin facade, the second one is being used as a solar radiation pretection, the values obained this way are corect for the specified m2/year . The corect values are obtained using an specific amount of perfoaration on the facade panels. This way we created three types of panels: 20 % opening, 33 % openings, 45 %, each percentage is resulted out of the shadow study. It can be observed that if we control with percentage openings on the panel we can obtain an avreage level of solar radiation, this way the stop the building from overhing.
