Irena Kne`evi} NO] OBE]AVA ZORU
Crnilo, gusto i te{ko; skoro op~injavaju}a muzika poziva… Radoznalost, ulazak sa zadr{kom uslovljen nelagodom zbog nepoznatog i neo~ekivanog. O~i gotovo `edno upijaju slabo razlivaju}e svjetlo. Pitanje polako nalazi odgovor… djelovi nadgrobnih spomenika, mermer, drvo, zemlja, svje`e i osu{eno cvije}e, upaljene i dogorele svije}e… groblje.
Svjetlo – tama, ti{ina – buka, `ivot – smrt, uhva}eni u trenutku univerzuma kada no} i dan podjednako traju.
Irena Knezevic A NIGHT’S PROMISE OF A DAWN
A thick and heavy blackness; almost mesmerizing music summons… There is curiosity, a somewhat delayed entry, due to unease caused by the unknown and unexpected. Eyes are almost thirsty for a soak in the waning light. A tall, massive, cold and bolted gate stops any movement. On the other side one sees a silhouette of a man, far away and distant. A sequence of images within it hold one’s attention, the music gives the creeps and follows the sway of grass, movement of clouds, kittens at play. The question is soon followed by the answer… Parts of tombstones, marble, wood, dirt, fresh and withered flowers, lit and burned out candles… a cemetery. The silhouette is no longer unknown; it belongs to a loved one who is no longer on our side of the gate, no longer with the living. The realm in which it now dwells is unfathomable, inaccessible to all the words that have been waiting so long to
be spoken… This realm is maybe cold and endless, and maybe it’s warm and cozy. It’s hard to tell… all one can see is grass and lumps of dirt. Even so, the grass will feed, and the soil will bear fruit. The kittens will continue to play, the ants to gather food, the life will go on, as it should be. The chain is a symbolic connection of the two worlds, and the lock stands for inability to grasp them. The gate, as a border, gives only a glimpse. However, it leaves room for thought on the opposites, extremes, two-sidedness… and everything in between. Light – darkness, silence – noise, life – death, caught in that moment of the universe when both night and day are of a same duration. The moment has gone, the balance has been disrupted, and blackness vanishes – the dawn breaks. It is a wonderful day, if only because it replaced the night.
