Reopen the river River-waterfall-pond
The Concept of the Tromsø Mack Site redevelopment is the following: The Industrial site on the shore occupies a great place with wonderfull climatical, æsthetical characteristics in the city center. Instead of the industrial zone a public space is proposed. The place faces one of the best views in Tromsøya and is situated near other public spaces: Museum, Polaria, Polstjerna and Framsenteret. Instead of the old hangar it is proposed to build an aquarium with local arctic species of fish and animals and an attraction of the underwater life. The old building is partly demolished, mostly in height (so that this appendix doesnt shelter the view to the sea and mountains from the Museum park), and on its new roof a park and a public square is proposed. So, that you can enter it directly from the street, and it is on the ground level from that site, and is getting above as it goes further above the slope closer to the shore. On the space near it, it is proposed to build a park public space with channel that goes from sea and reaches the old, original coastline of the area. The channel is proposed to be stepped (with smaller steps to walk and big steps to sit on, and a wider passage down, near the water), so that people could sit there, having time, facing the sun, protected from the wind and experiencing a wonderfull view to the mountains. Another water reservoir starts inside the aquarium and partly goes outside. And a hanging above passage alows to cross that lake with wonderfull sea creatures and to watch them in semi-outdoor space. It is also proposed, to reopen the old piped river near Museum park and to lead it down to the sea or the channel down through a waterfall in our space.
Aquarium Park-Terrace Channel to sea
Goal: To create a public space on old Mack Site: Waterfront park with channel and beach and Aquarium. Other Goals: To create a logical, logistical and visual connection between the public space and Museum and Kunstforeningen park, to create a passage on the Jetty, To connect all the public sites from Polaria to Nerstranda by a accessible and comfortable coast line with infrastructure.
