Catch 22 Gastropub Described as “refined messy food” by owner Richard Miley, Catch 22 Gastropub is a must for foodies. While he’s famous for changing his menu to reflect what’s in season, a look at the house burger gives great insight into his bold talents. The burger comes with a sweet bacon jam, smothered in aged cheddar and grilled onions, jazzed up by ketchup made with Catch 22’s signature fire, Sriracha Thai chili sauce. Get a side of Filthy Fries. And a gastropub isn’t complete without painstaking love of beer and Catch 22 has that covered. Enjoy flights of some of the best beer on the planet. And their beer dinners aren’t to be missed. Hilltop Grille Hilltop Grille is the life-long dream of Athens resident Chris Lloyd. He and his business partner, Rick Pennell, opened “Hilltop” in November 2002. “I wanted to open a restaurant that Athens could call its’ own,” says Lloyd. “When you want to show people from out of town what Athens is all about, you don’t want to take them to the same franchise restaurant they have back home. When I went to UGA back in the 70s, everyone went to Poss’s out on the Atlanta Highway. I want to fill that void.” Discover what the locals know, it’s the best steak and seafood in Athens and you don’t have to fight the downtown crowd. Reservations and large groups are welcome.

La Dolce Vita Stefano Volpi prepares food at La Dolce Vita much like his family did while growing up at the foothills of the Italian Alps. Hearty portions of the highest quality pasta made from scratch. The lightest gnocchi each rolled by hand. Fresh tomatoes straight from the garden and handpicked porcini mushrooms gathered from the nearby forests. The prosciutto and salami cut into the thinnest slices and the freshest house made mozzarella slathered with freshly pressed olive oil. Volpi’s kitchen shares the very best of his culinary heritage. The Volstead Kitchen & Pub Andrew John Volstead was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives who was paramount in establishing the Prohibition Act in 1920. The failure of the act is celebrated at The Volstead Kitchen & Pub. Nice try, they say. They are located in a downtown Athens building from 1893 that is restored to its original appearance. Once inside, you will find a knowledgeable and friendly staff ready to serve you one of their 28 Georgia craft beers they have on tap. After grabbing one of their super cold beers, enjoy a Volstead Burger with homemade pimento cheese, or their one of a kind fish and chips. They definitely have something for everyone, except Mr. Andrew Volstead, of course. Check them out on Facebook!
