from Poojya Guruji Dashmukh and our endless Seeking Come Dashera, the whole country is in a festive mood celebrating the ending of the evil by the one who was an embodiment of goodness & truth. It is very necessary that this message of Satyameva Jayate, is driven home to one & all. Truth & Goodness alone reigns supreme, no matter how poweful the evil is; then alone the children and all the other people of the society will be motivated to tread the path of dharma and truthfulness. The personality of Ravana stands for someone who was so self-centered that in the process of fulfilling 'his' desires the person had lost all sensitivities for others. Hurting someone was no issue at all, even taking their lives was as easy & effortless as cutting a cake. In fact such people seem to enjoy all this, like the modern day terrorists, who count their killings as trophies. Selfishness is the root of all evil, when the motivation is selfish then everything whatsover is used only for self-appeasement. Even if such a person is seeing doing worship, meditating and getting knowledge, it is all used only for furthering the goals of self-fullfillment. How do you symbolize such a selfish, insensitive and extrovert person living only for more & more gratification, and who helplessly & effortlessly resorts to all evil. The great artistic masters of yore did an amazing job of presenting the persona of Ravana - the Dasmukh. Dasmukh means a person with ‘ten mouths’ and not exactly tenheaded. Mouth is that with which we eat. Normally we eat just with our one mouth, but here is a person who is using all his ten senses (The five gyanendriyas and the five karmendriyas) only for more & more gratifications- endlessly. Ravana was not really ten-headed. He never ever went around with his ten heads, even on the battle front he never had his ten heads at one time. He was just not dying, and somehow he remained alive in spite of bulls-eye shots of Ramji, till Vibhishana told a secret of Ravana to Ramji, that aim for his navel area which has the secret of his invincibility. Here lies the secret of this symbolism. Extrovertedness is sustained by a specific cause, and till the time 'that root-cause' is effaced the ten-mouthed one shall keep on remaining alive. Life of a common man is similar. Throughout our lives we keep on eating & eating. The objects of desires may change but desire per se remains alive. In the childhood we wanted something else, in the youth we desire different things, in middle & old age our 'objects of desires change, but the basic fact remains as it is. We still want to eat & eat, all our senses are gaping outside for more appeasement & gratifications. We are showered by so many kinds of good or even bad experiences. Loving people, amazing & beautiful world, success, respect, comforts, sensual gratifications, etc etc, yet we continue to seek more & more. It is all about our endless seeking. What is it which sustains endless hunger, and today we are eating with all our 'mouths'. The end of such people is pathetic. It is such a scenario which is denounced and such a mindset which is effaced, by the one who is an embodiment of truth & righteousness. Our scriptures & Gurus reveal, not better ways of fulfilling our desires, but something more fundamental. They reveal to us that which we are basically seeking in & through our endless seeking. They turn us to our very source, and this can’t be better symbolized by our navel, which physically connected us with our mothers to sustain us. So go to your roots. There lies the amrut kalash. Roots not of our physical existence but of our very desires. We seek infinite bliss & fulfillment, and infinite by its very definition is something which is all-pervasive and all-inclusive. Bliss is our very Self. Ayam Atma Brahma, thunder the Upanishads. Till the time one aims for 'this', the ten-mouthed monstor will always be kept alive, seeking this or that, endlessly. So being Dasmukh is the initial state of an ordinary person of the world, thereafter one has to graduate to being Dasrath, one who has reined all his/her senses; and the final stage is that which is represented by Bhagwan Sri Ram, wherein one is fulfilled in oneself by oneself. -

Perception of Oneness: Sign of Knowledge The previous sloka revealed that the knowledge of Supreme Brahman destroys all delusion and the fragmented vision of ‘Me’ & ‘Mine’ is destroyed along with it. Even though the plurality of names, forms, their attributes and the worldly entanglements, do not cease to exist, all delusions are dropped and a clear direction is acquired just as the confusion of direction is negated as soon as the sun rises. In the following sloka the Acharya shows us the nature of this divine kowledge and how it reflects in the vision of Wise Men, towards the world.
47 Samyak vigyaanavaana yogi swatmanyeva akhilam jagat Ekam cha sarvam atmaanam eekshate gyaana chakshushaa Samyak vigyaanvaan yogi:The Yogi of perfect realisation; swatmanyeva: in his own self; akhilam: the entire; jagat: universe; ekam: as one; cha: and; sarvam: everything; atmaanam: as his ownself; eekshate: sees; gyaan chakshushaa: through the eyes of wisdom. The Yogi of perfect realisation and enlightenment sees through his “eye of wisdom” the entire universe in his own Self and regards everything else as his own Self and nothing else. Samyakvigyaanavaanayogi: The yogi of perfect and direct kowledge sees the whole world with his ‘eyes of wisdom’. Here the Acharya uses a term ‘Vigyaana’ which implies direct knowledge. The term Knowledge can be understood in two ways; Direct or Indirect knowledge. Indirect knowledge is an intellectual understanding of scriptural knowledge. Such a person has studied the scriptures and appreciates the knowledge but has not yet directly awakened into the subjective reality. Situations in life may still worry him, he may still have a fragmented living and may have not risen above the limited state of jivahood. Whereas a Man of Direct knowledge has awakened into the state of Brahman and reflects the attributes of pure existence and bliss when interacting with the world and when with his own self. Initially all spiritual aspirants begin their journey of knowledge with the faith that they are the Supreme Being
beyond the limitations of space, time and object. This faith in the words of the Sadguaru and the Scriptures is the prerequisite to enter into the portals of knowledge. It is with a sincere study of the scriptures and upgrading this faith to a level of deep analysis and contemplation that one awakens into the reality of the Self and directly sees one’s self as Brahman. Now it is not just a vision given by the Master and the Scriptures but it is seen as direct understanding that I am Brahman. This is Direct knowledge of a yogi refered here as ‘Vigyaanvaan. Having introduced us to this Man of Direct knowledge the Acharya further goes on to explain the vision of a Man of such wisdom. His vision towards himself and towards the entire cosmos. Swatmanyeva akhilam jagat: A Yogi of knowledge sees the whole creation in him-
Vedanta Sandesh
self. The truth being the entire creation is nothing but a projection of my mind. Just as in the state of dream I see a diversity of people and situations, yet the fact is that the dream is a projection of my mind. It is born in me, is sustained in myself and it dissolves in me. Inspite of the plurailty I pervade everything just as the gold pervades all the different variations of jewellery. It is only in the state of ignorance and misapprehension that one thinks I am in the world. A man of wisdom sees the world is in me. The whole cosmos is a reflection of the Supreme Brahman. Brahman is the substratum of which this entire creation is born, is sustained in and in which the entire creation is dissolved. The scriptures reveal that Brahman is none other than my very own nature, and hence this entire play of names and forms is created of me and is sustained in me. I am the screen on which this entire projection of the world comes into play.
sought. Eekshate Gyanchakshusha: This kind of a vision is a vision of wisdom. All of us see the objective world with our two eyes, but we have a third eye which is the eye of wisdom. It is with the eye of wisdom that one understands and sees the reality of the objective world, of God and of the Self. The nature and beauty of Vedantic knowledge is that it is totally a process of awakening. Liberation from the bondage of samsara is not a physical negation of the world. When one negates the world and the body, mind and intellect too, as unreal, these things do not physiaclly die off, but keeping in mind its ephimerality one establishes a right relationship with them. This is the vision of this knowledge. Neither does any physical negation take place nor is there any requirement for such a development. The practical significance of the objective world is not undermined, nor does a Man of Spiritual wisdom become lazy and inactive. There is a right understanding of the stand that the objective world holds. The world its objects, people, situations and experiences are all inert by themselves. It is the ‘I’ which gives importance to these things and gets bound by them. If I give importance to something as a source of happiness it will give me happiness, If I give something an importance as a source of sorrow it will surely be a source of misery for me. Infact everything gives me happiness and sorrow as per the intensity of importance I give to something as being real. This is the secret of knowing the reality behind the joys and sorrow that we suffer. Bondage and liberation is not in the hands of the external world but it is dependant on my understanding of the world and the sense of reality I impose on the world. In this manner all delusions regarding the objective world are dropped and one is clearly able to see the reality of everything as my own very truth, Atma or ‘I’.
Ekam cha sarvam aatmaanam A Wise Man sees the entire creation in him and sees himself as the nucleus of everything. In other words I alone am everything. I am one without a second. Everything is my reflection. Just as a thousand reflections of myself appear in a range of mirrors. So also the entire cosmic range from inert to living beings is my reflection alone. This vision is the crux of Vedantic knowledge. A non-fragmented vision. As long as the veil of ignorance covers my understanding so long my vision towards the world will be a fragmented one. There will always be a duality between the world and me. There will be a fragmented vision at the level of caste, countries, sex, color, occupation ashrama, fame, money and so on. Not only this, as long as I am seperate from the world and consider myself a limited being, there will always be something to be attained from outside to fill my cup of contentment. Life will be a continuous journey of seeker and the

The Two Hermits(The Madman by Khalil Gibran)
Upon a lonely mountain, there lived two hermits who worshipped God and loved one another. Now these two hermits had one earthen bowl, and this was their only possession. One day an evil spirit entered into the heart of the older hermit and he came to the younger and said, "It is long that we have lived together. The time has come for us to part. Let us divide our possessions." Then the younger hermit was saddened and he said, "It grieves me, Brother, that thou shouldst leave me. But if thou must needs go, so be it," and he brought the earthen bowl and gave it to him saying, "We cannot divide it, Brother, let it be thine." Then the older hermit said, "Charity I will not accept. I will take nothing but mine own. It must be divided." And the younger one said, "If the bowl be broken, of what use would it be to thee or to me? If it be thy pleasure let us rather cast a lot." But the older hermit said again, "I will have but justice and mine own, and I will not trust justice and mine own to vain chance. The bowl must be divided." Then the younger hermit could reason no further and he said, "If it be indeed thy will, and if even so thou wouldst have it let us now break the bowl." But the face of the older hermit grew exceeding dark, and he cried, "O thou cursed coward, thou wouldst not fight."

Handling Fear Hari om S...,
Letter of the Month
‘The
root
cause of all fears, insecurity etc. for all humans all over the world, is basically something
very
deep. It concerns the ignorance of the truth of ourselves and the world.’ - Poojya Guruji
Ref your mail about the deep-rooted fears & insecurity. The root cause of all fears, insecurity, ashanti etc. for all humans all over the world, is basically something very deep. It concerns the ignorance of the truth of ourselves and the world. Have you ever wondered who you really are? Today ‘you’ are just a limited individual, with so many dreams, desires, fears & insecurity etc. A limited individuality by its very definition is basically insecure, so it is no wonder that its awareness keeps surfacing off & on. The very fact we try to ‘get’ security shows that our present identity is by itself insecure & limited, otherwise there was no reason that we should try to get security etc. Think. That is the real cause of our dis-ease. When you come to know the real ‘you’ then not only all fears & insecurity etc go completely, we also come to experience unimaginable & ever-lasting bliss & fulfillment. It is like getting healthy again. In fact this alone is the first & also the real goal of life for everyone. The journey to that goal of inner awakening begins with believing in the existence of such a state. That is what the belief in God is all about – he represents limitless, blissful & secure state of being. So learn to sincerely believe in the existence of God – which is basically the belief in the healthy state of your own existence. You are basically not a limited & petty individual, but something else. This is all just a bad dream. Get up from it, wake up to your truth. However, this waking up is very unique & different. It begins with a very clear & firm belief in the existence of your blissful Self or lets say God. No creation is ever possible without a creator, so whether you know or don’t, see or don’t see, one needs to clearly believe in the existence of God, the amazing artistic creator. One who has infinite intelligence, power, creativity, love etc. He alone is all over – as sun, moon, flowers, birds etc. even as you & me. So start a ‘relationship’ with such an extremely intelligent loving & amazing creator – a relationship based on belief on his existence. Just believe in his existence & presence, and this very belief will start bringing wonders in your life. He exists as clearly as you & me. Court God, love God, try to know God very nicely. However, don’t commit the mistake of asking God about the fulfillment of your desires & wishes. Prayers are not for petitions but to invoke love & various latent positive qualities inherent in you. Petitions imply conclusions about our petty & pathetic ‘limited & insecure’ Self, and also of God as the controller of our lives, both are wrong conclusions. Just as a person who is ill & in pain believes in the existence of a ‘healthy state’ and then alone works for it, so also believe that basically you are healthy, secure, complete, even blissful – full of love. That’s all. Let this belief manifest in your heart. Let it envelope & embrace you. Believe sincerely that the present state is comparable to a bad dream, and the way to get out of all this mess, is to turn to the truth. Try. I am sure it may prove to be a turning point in your life. Lots of love & om, Guruji -

VedantaSandesh Sandesh- Mar - April 2009 Vedanta 2012
Bhagwan Sri Krishna in the second chapter of the Gita gives a very beautiful description of a Man of Steady Wisdom. Here is a person who having know his own reality is free from seeking happiness from people, situations, objects, time space and all their experiences. What is the nature of such a person who has awakened into a state of Self effulgence and has discovered the blissful Self? How does such a person venture into the dynamics of worldly life? Let us get some fragrance of what Sri Krisha has to say in his divine song. A Man of Wisdom-Contented within the Self & by the Self: A Man of Steady Wisdom has cast away all his desires and is contented within the Self and by the Self. His joy is not relative i.e ‘I am not happy because of something, but I am happy inspite of everything’. Just as fire is hot not because of any reason but because heat is its nature, so also a Wise Man is happy not because of something but because that is his very nature. This is a natural state of all beings, unfortunately due to the glory of ignorance not everyone is able to see or revel in this natural state of existence. In the sate of ignorance Man is constantly dancing to the tunes of desires. The desire to achieve fame, status, wealth, relationships, etc. All these ever hungry desires are born of a sense of lack within, not knowing really who I am. it is said ignorance is bliss. Now if this alone was the case in a person’s life then one would still enjoy the bliss of deep slumber. But unfortunately the darkness of ignorance regarding the Self, is not all that we suffer it is the wrong identification of the Self that keeps us hopping and jumping from one thing to another. Today I identify with myself as a limited being, a person who is empty within and who needs to fill his cup from the brooke of worldly experiences. I am like a hungry child who is passing through the Big bazaar of the world and everything he sees, he wants to jump for it. My expressions are “Oh! I want this, I need this & how I wish I could get this.” And our hands go up in prayers, ‘Oh God I wish you understand how much i need this!!! And so on and so forth. From morning to night and from childhood to old age, and from one birth to another, its just a story of desires all the way. A man of wisdom has nullified all such desires. For him the world is an imaginary dream like existence, which reflects joy as momentary as that of lightening. He can see if happiness was truly in the objective world then one object should have given us happiness foe ever and to all the people in the same manner. But we all know through experience that the same sweet does not continue to give me happiness for ever and ever and nor does one and the same sweet give joy to everyone. If one analyses what happens in a given moment of happiness, one discovers that when we desire something, the mind is restless; when the desired object is gained, the restlessness Vedanta Sandesh
is resolved and the mind is satisfied. Thus happiness manifests in a satisfied mind. Happiness does not come from people or objects. Such a truth about the objective world and its ephimerality is seen by wise men and hence they discover the true source of bliss and that is the the Self.
A man of complete and direct knowledge too lives in the same world as any common man. But it is his state of mind that makes his conduct and interaction with the outside world unique and divine - Gita Chap 2
Wrong Convictions about the Self There is no doubt that ignorance is the root cause of our worldliness but even more dangerous than pure igorance is wrong understanding of the Self and the objective world. Our conduct in the world around reflects a definite nature of intellectual convictions that we have regarding ourselves and the source of happiness. That conviction being that I am small, I am limited, I am mortal, I am unfulfilled etc. This conviction then brings about a chain of attributes that make us extraneous. Wrong convictions, ego, desires and then actions and then a s a consequence worries, sorrow, fear, momentary joy, likesdislike and so on. My identity is related only with what I am as this body and a social being. For a sincere aspirant of the truth it is very important to see the futility of worldly attachment and then even more importantly question the very understanding that I have about myself today. Who am I? Am I the body, the mind, the intellect, a doer, an achiever, a husband a wife, a social person, a rich man? Questioning one’s present identity opens the doors to the knowledge of the truth and seeing that which I really am. Pure existence, consciosness and pure bliss. An existence that transcends the limitations of time and space. A Man of Self contentment amidst situations of life: A man of complete and direct knowledge too lives in the same world as any common man. But it is his state of mind that makes his conduct and interaction with the outside world unique and divine. A saint also goes through extraneous adversities but he lives like a Master of situations. In conducive situations he is unattached to the momentary pleasures of the world. In unconducive situations he does not escape from situations, but faces them with a sense of fulfillment and dignity. He has universal love and compassion for all beings human or non human. His actions no more carry the odour of a doer but are a natural expression of joy and love like an artist whose love and joy reflects in the strokes of his colorful brushes. Whatever he does is selfless and an expression of God’s will. In achievements he is not elated just like an ocean does not overflow even though so many rivers and lakes submerge themselves in it. Such is the fragrance of a Man of wisdom who is contented within himself and by himself. -

Quotes Life is the art of drawing without an eraser so be careful while taking every small decisions of the valuable pages of life. Do good to everyone as some fragrance always remains in the hands of those who distribute roses. Staying at the back and giving power and support to everyone and still being egoless; this is what we should learn from the digit ZERO. Extending one hand to help someone is better than joining two hands for prayer. The secret of long lasting beauty is to carry the spirit of a child into old age. People are not beautiful as they look, as they walk and as they wear; but people are beautiful as they help, as they care and as they share. Richness is not earning more, spending more and saving more; Richness is when you need no more. Never search your happiness in others which will make you feel alone; search it in your self which will make you happy even when you are left alone.

Wandering in Himalayas Vision of a Jivanmukta
It is fitting that such a spot (Rishikesh) should become the home of generations of enlightened and sincere seekers after Truth. To the former, it provides a life of bliss in oneness with God; to the latter, it affords opportunities for the study and practice of Truth. Here the sacred Ganga flows in a perennial stream. Her broad sand-banks and the beautiful forests stretching far to the north and east are a standing invitation to the knower of truth who in serene contemplation love to remain at one with the Supreme. To them it is paradise on earth. It is only natural that they should cling to such a place.

As for the devotees who wish to train and equip themselves for the persuit of truth, life at Rishikesh is an undoubted blessing. The first duty of those who want to see the truth face to face is the constant hearing of the Holy texts, and contemplation. Such practice depends inevitably on solitude and peace of mind. Both of these may be found in the forest of Rishikesh. It is a matter of common experience that a boy who attends school, progresses more quickly than another who tries to study at home. Similarly a spiritual aspirant makes headway far more easily in the company of men who have already realised
Excerpts from the
Truth or are constantly trying to realise it. In this sense it may be said that Rishikesh is the biggest University for spiritual aspirants from all over India. Besides, Rishikesh provides opportunities for bathing in the Holy
Travel Memoirs of Param Poojya Swami Tapovanji Maharaj
Ganga in solitude and spending days in solitary contemplation on her banks. Rishikesh affords far greater conveniences than any other place downstream. If purity of mind is essential to the realisation of God, devotion to Ganga, which is especially helpful in purifying the mind, must be regarded as invaluable to all seekers of Knowledge. To bathe in the Ganga, to drink the water from the Ganga, to worship mother Ganga, and to sing devotional hymns to her-such are the ways of cleansing the heart of all its dross. -

Story of Satyakama Jabala Story Section
A young boy said to his mother, “I am going to study the Vedas. Tell me the name of my father and my caste.” The mother was not a married woman, and so the poor mother said, “My child, I do not know your family name; I was in service, and served in different places; I do not know who your father is, but my name is Jabala and your name is Satyakama.” The little child went to a sage and asked to be taken as a student. The sage asked him, “What is the name of your father, and what is your

caste?” The boy repeated to him what he had heard from his mother. The sage at once said, “None but a Brahmin could speak such a damaging truth about himself. You are a Brahmin and I will teach you. You have not swerved from the truth.” So he kept the boy with him and educated him. This teacher gave Satyakama four hundred lean, weak cows to take care of, and sent him to the forest. There he went and lived for some time. The teacher had told him to come back when the herd would increase to the number of one thousand. After a few years, one day Satyakama heard a big bull in the herd saying to him, “We are a thousand now; take us back to your teacher. I will teach you a little of Brahman.” Then the bull said, “The East is a part of the Lord, so is the West, so is the South, so is the North. The four cardinal points are the four parts of Brahman. Fire will also teach you something of Brahman.” When in the evening he had performed his oblation, and worshipped at the fire, and was sitting near it, he heard a voice come from the fire, “O Satyakama.” This earth is a portion of that Brahman. The sky and heaven are portions of It. The ocean is a part of that Brahman.” Then the fire said that a certain bird would also teach him something. Satyakama continued his journey and on the next day when he had performed his evening sacrifice a swan came to him and said, This fire which you worship, O Satyakama, is a part of that Brahman. The sun is a part, the moon is a part, the lightning is a part of that Brahman. A bird called Madgu will tell you more about it.” The next evening that bird came, and a similar voice was heard by Satyakama, Breath is a part of Brahman, sight is a part, hearing is a part, the mind is a part.” Then the boy arrived at his teacher’s place and presented himself before him with due reverence. No sooner had the teacher seen this disciple than he remarked: “Satyakama, thy face shines like that of a knower of Brahman! Who then has taught thee?” “Beings other than men,” replied Satyakama. “But I wish that you should teach me, sir. For I have heard from men like you that knowledge which is learnt from a Guru alone leads to the supreme good.” Then the sage taught him the same knowledge which he had received from the gods. -

Technical Assistance about joining the Online Satsang You are free to write to Rajesh Kumar at Lucknow or even talk to him on Mobile with any kind of query or help . His access details are: Email: artofmanmakingfoundation@gmail.com Mobile: + 918004975230 Vedanta Sandesh
Xfflmz!Pomjof!Tbutboh; On 16th Sept, Vedanta Mission started a new program of Online Satsang. In this program Poojya Guruji while sitting at his Ashram in Indore addresses various devotees, in different parts of the country and the world - live. This program is being conducted using the amazing tools of Google Hangout. Earlier a test session was conducted in which everyone famliarized themselves with the new tools, and then from 16th, Sunday, discourses on the Sadhana Panchakam text were started. Three sessions have been organized since then, and now there is great enthusiasm not only at Lucknow, which took this initiative, but also in different parts of the world.
Group Viewing is Encouraged: As Google has a limit of maximum ten systems to be connected at one time, so we are encouraging ‘group viewing’. Devotees gather at one place and then listen to the discourses, and then ask questions too. We have three such groups at Lucknow, and others at Indore, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, US, Canada, Australia, Saudi etc. Many devotees who basically want to listen rather than interact, they just watch the Streaming of the Live Discourse on their Google Plus Page. If at all some people cannot watch the Satsang live, they have the option of watching the entire recording at YouTube later on. So depending upon the different time zones in the world, people have convenient options to see / listen or participate in this unique event. Anyone can subscribe to the Vedanta Mission Channel on the YouTube to access the archives of all the earlier recordings.
How to join the Online Satsang: In order to join this unique & free facility of Online Satsang, all one needs to do is as follows: 1. Have a Gmail ID and then go to your Google Plus Page, the icon of which will be visible on top left. 2. Add ‘Vedanta Mission’ (vmission@gmail.com) as your Friend, which we will confirm at our end. Then you need to post a message to Vedanta Mission requesting to participate in the Online Satsang. We will then add you in our special Online Satsang Circle. All the members of this circle will get invites at around 9.55 AM, every Sunday informing them that the Satsang is about to start. 3. Now you just need to accept the invite with the click of a button, and then you join the Online Satsang Hangout. You will have to keep your microphone on mute till Poojya Guruji completes his talk and starts the Q&A session. He will advise you when to switch-on the mike. 4. You can connect your TV also with your Laptop / Desktop and enjoy the program on a wider screen, for that all what you will need is a HDMI Cable and ofcourse a HDMI Port in your Laptop and also in the TV. All modern TV’s and Laptops have them. HDMI Cable is also easily available in any Computer Store. Everyone is invited to take advantage of this unique program. which is like Gangaji coming to your doorsteps and homes.
