Annual Formal Reception

In this the 85th year of the Station we were honoured to welcome guests both old and new for the Annual Formal Reception this summer. An opportunity to strengthen existing friendships, to make new friends and to update everyone on the station’s achievements and how it will move forward in the coming year. Station Commander Gp Capt Holland said: “Being known and understood by the community and society that we serve is essential, and I’m proud of RAF Honington’s outstanding reputation throughout Suffolk.”

Displays on current capabilities and Next Generation Force Protection were enjoyed by all guests with an opportunity to experience Virtual Reality tools already being trialled for training here at Honington. We were especially pleased to see the Mayor’s of Thetford and Felixstowe, and the Chair of West Suffolk Council as our Freedom Partners.

The RAF was awarded the Freedom of Felixstowe in 1958 as a thank you from the town for the RAF’s heroic assistance during the devastating 1953 floods. The Mayor of Felixstowe’s Chains of Office portray the linkage to the Royal Air Force and the RAF Regiment.

Equally delighted to host the Masters of the Worshipful Companies of the ‘Loriners’ and the ‘Security Professionals’ which hold close associations with 1 Squadron RAF Regiment and the Force Protection Force Headquarters.
