Fatal crash court case adjourned for a month A YOUNG woman accused of causing the death of four friends in a car crash three years ago saw her case adjourned by a month when it came before the Circuit Court last week. Dayna Kearney (22), Crossneen, Carlow, faces charges of dangerous driving causing the deaths of four other young women on the N78 Athy Link Road on January 6, 2015. The victims were Niamh Doyle (19), Chermaine Carroll (20), and Gemma Nolan (19), all also from Carlow, and Aisling Middleton (19) from Athy. She is also charged with driving a defective vehicle at the time of the crash. The case was due to begin at Naas Circuit Court last week, but Counsel for the Prosecution, Dan Boland, sought an adjournment on the grounds that a key Garda witness was not available. Judge SeĂĄn Ă“ DonnabhĂĄin agreed to put matters back to February 27. He marked the case ‘peremptory’ against the State, meaning it will go ahead then whether or not they are ready.

Lucky Beatrice wins â‚Ź33,000 BEATRICE Dunne from the Tullow Road in Carlow enjoyed a â‚Ź33,000 ‘Winning Streak’ when she appeared on the popular National Lottery/ RTE television game show on Saturday night. The 82-year-old grandmother claimed â‚Ź30,000 in cash as well as a holiday valued at â‚Ź3,000 to Venice in Italy. She said on air that the people she’d most like to bring on holiday with her were two grand-daughters: Michaela (19) and Emma (13). Both Michaela and Emma

were in the audience to hear that in person too, so they might just hold her to her promise! Also there to cheer Beatrice on were here daughters Marian, Deirdre, and Yvonne, and her lifelong friend Patty, who she has known since they went to school together in their native Naas in Co. Kildare many years ago. Although originally from Naas, Beatrice has been living in Carlow for the past 65 years. Her late husband was the well-known Garda John

Dunne, who passed away nine years ago. Beatrice was actually watching the show the previous week, when her name came out of the draw. Her daughter had been watching with her, but had left the room at the point – she had to come rushing back to see what all the shouting was about! Beatrice received many congratulations after her appearance on the show, and family and friends toasted her success at a party in The Seven Oaks Hotel.

ADVERTORIAL “ST CLARE’S Hospitalityâ€? was founded in October 2013 when it became increasingly apparent that growing numbers of families in Carlow and its environs were struggling to feed their families. Initially 30 food parcels a week were being provided through a food parcel delivery service based in a small room in Graiguecullen Parish Centre. The need quickly grew and the service expanded to provide over 200 parcels per week. It was at this point that the need for a service that provided hot meals became apparent. Therefore, 2015 saw the establishment of a “Food Kitchenâ€? in place of the parcel service. The methodology of service delivery is based loosely around the work of Brother Kevin and the Capuchin Day Centre in Dublin, but has been adapted to suit the population of Carlow. The premises were secured at The Waterfront, Mill Lane, directly adjacent to Carlow Castle. As the building was just a shell, a huge amount of building work was necessary before any thought could be given to food! As of January 2017, The Kitchen has been in receipt of a FEAD Grant (Fund for European Aid to the most Deprived) in the form of dry goods such as tinned fruit and vegetables, rice, instant soup etc. This has allowed us to return to supplying a food parcel delivery service without an additional cost or consequence to The Kitchen. A further 30+ families in the region are now supported by the food parcel service. Without the kindness of our volunteers, our benefactors and those who have donated, St Clare’s Hospitality Kitchen would not be here.

DEN OF THIEVES Out now

A gripping new novel by Jane Harper, bestselling author of The Dry, returns with another atmospheric and gripping mystery, with lead agent Aaron Falk back on the case. It was supposed to be a straightforward camping trip - a company teambuilding exercise in the bush - but now Alice has disappeared. Has she wandered off or is there something more sinister at play? Is it simply a coincidence that she was in possession of sensitive company information? What does Alice now and where is she? Critics say you won’t be able to put it down. Get your copy now in store or online.

It is finally here, our very own talent show. Ireland’s Got Talent is new to our screens and we can’t wait to see the best of the best entertaining us every Saturday evening. The winner of Ireland’s Got Talent will receive a ₏50,000 cash prize as well as their own primetime Christmas television special. Judges of the show include our very own X-Factor favorite Louis Walsh and equally talented TV personalities Denise van Outen, Jason Byrne and Michelle Visage. Watch it with your family and let yourselves be entertained by the variety of Irish talent.

Every day, $120m in cash is taken out of circulation and destroyed by the Los Angeles Branch of the Federal Reserve, unless a notorious, elite crew of bank robbers can pull off the ultimate heist and get to the money first, right under the noses of LA’s most feared division in law enforcement. Nick O’Brien is the hard-drinking leader of the Regulators, an elite unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Ray Merrimen is the recently paroled leader of the Outlaws, a gang of exmilitary men who use their expertise and tactical skills to evade the law.
