A jury on Monday found Hells Angel Larry Amero guilty of conspiracy to commit murder in the shooting death of Sandip “Dip” Duhre at Downtown Vancouver’s Sheraton Wall Centre on January 17, 2012, and the homicide of Sukhveer (Sukh) Dhak who was gunned down along with his bodyguard, Thomas Mantel, in the lobby of the Executive Hotel and Conference Center in the 4200-block of Lougheed Highway in Burnaby on November 26, 2012. Rabih (Robby) Alkhalil was found guilty of conspiracy and first-degree murder in Duhre’s death and guilty of plotting to murder Dhak, the Vancouver Sun reported on Tuesday. Amero and Alkhalil were on trial in the B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver where Justice Miriam Maisonville gave instructions to the jury. The alleged hitman himself – Dean Wiwchar – will go on trial later. Alkhalil, who escaped from North Fraser Pretrial Jail on July 21, has yet to be nabbed. He was extradited from Greece in 2015 and was serving a life term for murder for his role in the 2012 murder of Johnny Raposo in Toronto’s Sicilian Sidewalk Café on College Street. His 2017 trial heard that Raposo was killed for a 200 kg shipment of cocaine fromAlkhalilMexico.has pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder of Duhre, while Amero had pleaded not guilty to conspiring with others to murder Duhre. Both Alkhalil and Amero had also pleaded not guilty to conspiring to murder Dhak. Back then, the gangland conflict was mainly between the United Nations gang and all the remnants and allies of the Dhak-Duhre side of things — and the so-called Wolf Pack: certain Hells Angels like Larry Amero and their allies and associates, the Independent Soldiers and the people that they brought to the equation and the Red Scorpions.RedScorpion leader Jonathan Bacon was gunned down in Kelowna on August 14, 2011, when Amero was also seriously injured. Alkhalil and Amero were accused of seeking revenge.

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) on Thursday identified Manbir “Mani” Amar, 40, of Surrey as the homicide victim in an altercation between neighbours on Wednesday in hopes of advancing their investigation. Amar had been a filmmaker and an activist who spoke out against gang violence. At this time, no charges have been laid and the suspect remains in custody. On August 31, Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a physical altercation between two neighbours in the 14100-block of 61 Avenue. Officers and Emergency Health Services (EHS) personnel attended and provided first aid, but sadly, despite best efforts, the victim’s condition deteriorated rapidly and he succumbed to his injuries on scene. A suspect was located on scene by Surrey RCMP and was arrested for murder. IHIT took conduct of the investigation and has been working closely in partnership with the Surrey RCMP, BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS). “This was an isolated incident between two neighbours,” said IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti. “Tragically, this situation escalated to a point where a life wasIHITtaken.”isasking any witnesses to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc. gc.ca.

LAST year in July, Crown counsel had told the jury that from BlackBerrys seized by police from Wiwchar and from Alkhalil’s residence, which he shared with Amero, police learned about the murder plots. The prosecutor said Duhre was shot in Café One Restaurant at Vancouver’s Sheraton Wall Centre. The shooter, with his face partially covered, walked straight to the restaurant. He shot Duhre multiple times and walked away briskly. A waitress who was serving Duhre was only metres behind the shooter. The shooter was not directly identified. Police found evidence that Wiwchar was the shooter and that Alkhalil was at the scene as a spotter.

Assets of former Canuck draft pick Prab Rai frozen because of fraud allegations

Khela claimed that in October 2020 Rai told him that he had been kidnapped on his way to the airport, beaten and robbed of his hard drive, which contained all of his bank account information, and that all of his money was Khelagone. says that because of that story, he began to investigate his business dealings with Rai and discovered the alleged fraud.

The lawyers representing Rai later withdrew from the case. After the lawsuit was filed, Khela went to court and sought an order freezing Rai’s assets.

Jagsir Gill

Several of Rai’s family members, including his brother, who is a former RCMP officer, are also named as defendants and have filed documents denying they were involved in any fraudulent activity, the Vancouver Sun reported.

On Monday, Golden RCMP said: “Preliminary investigation shows that a westbound semitruck hauling cattle crossed over the centre line and hit an eastbound semi-truck hauling lumber. Only one bovine survived the incident and is being treated for its injuries.” Cousins of Gill told the media that the father of two boys, ages three and 12, was “probably the most soft-spoken, gentle soul you’ll ever meet,” and that he adored his family. They said that he was planning to quit his trucking job this fall and open his own business so he could spend more time with his Accordingfamily. to one media account, Gill’s parents, brother and sister flew to Calgary late Sunday from Toronto. On Monday, they drove to the scene of the collision to see it first-hand.

CALGARY trucker Jagsir Gill, 34, along with Tanner Lieftin, 25, and Brandon Richard Johnson, 30, both of Chilliwack, B.C., were killed on Sunday in a head-on crash of semi-trailers on Highway 1 east of Golden, B.C. RCMP said in a press statement that on August 28 at 6:50 a.m. MST, the Golden-Field RCMP, BC Highway Patrol and Emergency Services responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 1 at the Yoho National Park west gate, approximately 35km east of Golden. “Upon arrival, it was determined that the occupants of both semi trucks involved were deceased,” it added.

A B.C. judge has frozen the assets of a former Vancouver Canucks draft pick Prab Rai who is being sued over allegations he defrauded realtor Harpreet Singh Khela of more than $2.8 million, according to a Vancouver Sun report. Khela claims that Rai posed as a successful and wealthy business person with connections with prominent local and international business people and retired hockey players. He alleges that Rai provided to him their phoney emails, financial statements, agreements and documents in order to fraudulently induce him to transfer more than $2.8 million for real estate developments and other investments that included a San Diego development property, a Tim Hortons franchise, and the purchase of the Sutton Hotel in Vancouver. One of the alleged schemes involved Rai telling Khela that a prominent former Canuck player was interested in purchasing commercial real estate located in Alberta that Khela held shares Raiin. allegedly told Khela that they had earned significant profits from their ventures and then concealed the fraud by falsely claiming that the profits had been frozen by the U.S. government and were unavailable.

Rai, in his response filed in court, said that over the course of many years, Khela had actively attempted to ingratiate himself with Rai and involve, or associate himself with, Rai’s legitimate business pursuits, according to the Vancouver Sun “Thereport.plaintiff’s efforts were motivated by the plaintiff’s considerable financial aspirations, lack of independent financial resources, and indebtedness to third parties,” says the response.

“When Mr. Rai sought to limit his involvement with the plaintiff, the plaintiff, in an effort to forestall his own creditors, began making a series of sweeping, unfounded allegations against Mr. Rai and, still further, Mr. Rai’s immediate family members.”

An amended lawsuit was filed in September 2021. The judge’s ruling was given orally in October 2021, with a written copy of that ruling attached to the court file.

B.C. Supreme Court Justice Shelley Fitzpatrick noted that the only substantive assets of Rai are two Lamborghini luxury vehicles with a combined value of about $1.2 million. The judge ordered that Rai provide a list of his assets and not dispose of them.

A 15-day trial is scheduled to begin in January 2024.

There were numerous victims who suffered non-life-threatening Theinjuries.videos that have been circulating — two of which were sent to the VOICE — show young South Asian men. One of them is seen lashing out with a sword. The incident has shaken up the community and caused a great deal of embarrassment. THE 4th Annual Surrey Health Expo is taking place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 17 at Surrey City Hall. Attendees can take advantage of free admission for the entire family and there will be information / resources available for all age groups. Since launching in 2018, the Surrey Health Expo continues to be the only mainstream tradeshow for Surrey residents that focuses on health, wellness, beauty and fitness. This initiative is important for the community because key industry businesses and local community non-profits / organizations come together under one roof. This event is instrumental in encouraging the community to be proactive about their health versus reactive. As we all know, the City of Surrey is growing rapidly. According to a report in February 2022, Surrey’s population is 568,822 with approximately 1,000-plus new residents moving into the city every month. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, many people were already experiencing super busy lives with high stress levels which resulted in poor diet, lack of exercise, sleep deprivation, etc. These bad habits can eventually lead to serious medical conditions like obesity as well as emotional and mental disorders. During the pandemic and even after, all of these health issues have worsened drastically while shedding more light on the importance of managing mental health. This event is crucially important and beneficial for the community, now more than ever. The Surrey Health Expo is an opportunity to bring the entire community together under one roof to further explore the world of health, wellness, beauty and fitness. There will also be a diverse group of vendors, advertisers, media sponsors and attendees.

With Hundial being a former RCMP officer himself, they feel they could not really rely on him anyway. No commitment! As The VOICE, which has repeatedly ex posed Hundial and Locke, noted two weeks ago: “The two got elected by us ing McCallum’s Safe Surrey Coalition and then became puppets of the RCMP and started trying to derail the transition to a municipal police force. This was in spite of the fact that they won on Safe Surrey Coalition’s promise to replace the RCMP in Surrey and to build a Surrey Langley SoSkyTrain.”nowSurrey-ites are asking Pentictonites: “Can you really trust Hundial?” And they are asking themselves: “Can we really trust Surrey Connect?” Surrey-ites left scratching their heads as Hundial now says he’s running from Penticton!

SURREY Councillor Jack Hundial on Tues day announced that he will be running in the municipal election – not from Surrey, but from Penticton. He posted on his Facebook page: “Its of ficial, I signed my Nomination today, run ning for Penticton Council.” That has shocked Surrey-ites who are questioning his sincerity and commitment — and transparency.

Just two weeks ago, on August 16, Hundi al, quite apparently realizing that he didn’t have any chance of being re-elected in Surrey, announced he was dropping out as a Council candidate from that city. He later told a local newspaper that he had been planning to quit Surrey for some time — and that stunned Surrey-ites who thought Surrey Connect and its councillors

Jack Hundial: "Sorry, Surrey-ites -- I prefer Penticton!"

Hundial and Brenda Locke were transpar ent people. Yet, they kept this a closely guarded secret, fooling Surrey-ites. Hundial even posted the following on his Facebook page: “I will be transition ing from my role as a candidate to one of continuing to be a director in Surrey Con nect and to assist with the transition from within the city after the next election.” So will he be now doing that from Pent Evenicton?

Following the initial announcement on August 30, 2021, health authorities and Providence Health Care served notice under the terms of 21 commercial service contracts, and began a phased approach to repatriate housekeeping and food-service contracts, beginning with Is land WorkHealth.tobring health-care service workers back into the public system began in 2019, when the Province brought Bill 47 (Health Sec tor Statutes Repeal Act) into force. Bill 47 re pealed the Health and Social Services Delivery Improvement Act (Bill 29) and the Health Sec tor Partnerships Agreement Act (Bill 94), which had facilitated contracting out in the health sector and caused significant labour impacts.

Brisard, Secretary-Business Manager, Hospital Employees’ Union, said: “House keepers and food-service workers are critical to patient safety and care in our health-care system. By bringing these jobs back into the public service, the government is reversing the failed privatization policies of the past that fragmented our health-care system. Reunit ing these workers with the health-care team means a stronger health-care system and better working conditions for these frontline workers, most of whom are women or racial ized workers.”

We expect the vaccines to come over several weeks and most peo ple should be able to get one in September or October. As before, the vaccines will be available in health-authority clinics and pharmacies. More information about timing and eligibility will be presented to the public on September 6. “With the start of the respiratory illness sea son, it is especially important to make sure that people are up to date on their vaccines. Our COVID-19 immunization strategy has been effective in protecting people from the virus, and we must stay diligent in continu ing to do so. “We encourage everyone to get up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines to keep them selves and those around them safe.”

Surrey South by-election: Sturko calls on NDP to take action on affordability crisis

NDP: Kevin Falcon confirms he’d cancel Cloverdale hospital

Photos: Consulate General of India

Consul General Manish (2nd from right in first photo) participated in the Jagannath RathaYatra festival and Festival of India organized by ISKCON Vancouver.

Pauline Greaves BC Liberal candidate for Surrey South Elenore Sturko on Monday said in a statement: “As the cost of groceries, gas, and even school supplies sky rockets, families preparing to send their kids back to school next week are growing tired of waiting for the NDP to follow through on their prom ise to make life more affordable here in SheSurrey.”said:“Residents in our commu nity have been waiting for months for initiatives to help deal with rising inflation. After all of the NDP’s prom ises to make life more affordable, the affordability crisis is now worse than ever “Withbefore.costs continuing to rise in Brit ish Columbia, the BC Liberals have re peatedly called on the NDP to take ac tions such as temporarily suspending the gas tax, or using carbon credits to reduce costs for B.C. families. Despite months of advocacy, the NDP have failed to listen or take any action. “It’s been more than four months since [Premier] John Horgan tasked the Finance Minister to bring forward initiatives to assist with inflation and yet we’ve seen nothing but excuses and passing the buck from the NDP ever since. People deserve so much Sturkobetter.” added: “Parents in my com munity simply cannot afford to wait any longer for this NDP government to realize the impact that rising infla tion is having on our communities, let alone continue to hold their breath for the NDP to make good on their 2016 promise to eliminate school portables in “It’sSurrey.time to send this government a loud and clear message. As the next MLA for Surrey South, I will advocate tirelessly for our community and con tinue to hold the NDP to account for their failure to deliver on their prom ises to Surrey residents.”

THE NDP said on Thursday that with advanced voting underway in the Surrey South by-election, BC Liberal Leader Kevin Falcon dou bled down on his plan to scrap the $1.7-billion hospital in Cloverdale, meaning people in Surrey would be denied access to much-needed hospital services for a decade or Speakinglonger. on Radio Red FM, Falcon promised to abandon the current site just south of Kwantlen Poly technic University campus, where construction will start next year, and claimed he would begin a new hospital project from scratch at an other location, where land has not been acquired. “No, I would not leave it as is. That’s why I have been saying that they are building it in the wrong loca tion,” said Falcon. The NDP pointed out that Falcon has a long history of opposing a new hospital in Surrey. When he was Minister of Finance in 2012, he sold land which had been reserved for a new hospital in Surrey to a private developer and BC Liberal Falcon’sdonor. plan to cancel the current hospital in 2024 after construc tion has begun would require: a new concept plan, an overhauled business case, scrapping and re launching the request for proposal process, and creating a new project design. This would be in addition to the time required for community and First Nation consultations as well as acquiring some of the most difficult and expensive land to pur Surreychase. South NDP candidate Pauline Greaves said: “Kevin Falcon has al ways played games with the second Surrey hospital. When he was in government, he broke his promise to build it and then sold off the land. Now that the BC NDP is building a hospital in Cloverdale, he wants to scrap it and add up to a decade in construction timelines, if he builds it at all. That’s something people in Surrey South cannot afford.”

ICBC sharing tips as kids head back to school 6,500 tickets were handed out to drivers for speeding in school and playground zones in B.C. last year

ICBC’s tips for parents and caregivers: * If you drop off your child in a school zone, they should exit the car on the side closest to the sidewalk. * If your child walks to school, practice their route with them ahead of time. Review street names and landmarks to orient them. Make a fun, interactive game out of guessing the cor rect traffic signs and meanings with your child along the route. * Teach your child the basics of crossing the -street:Stop at the curb or edge of the road. - Look left and right for oncoming vehicles, then look left over your shoulder for vehicles that might be turning. - Make sure all vehicles have stopped before en tering the road. Make eye contact with drivers before crossing, even if the walk signal is on. - When the intersection is clear, start crossing and keep looking for approaching vehicles. * Teach your child to walk on the inside edge of the sidewalk away from the road, so they’re further away from traffic. If there isn’t a side walk, they can walk facing oncoming traffic, so they can see approaching vehicles and make eye contact with drivers. * Set a good example by not crossing mid-block or running to cross the street. Where possible, cross at intersec tions with a pedestrian crossing light or marked crosswalk. Avoid shortcuts through parking lots or around parked cars where it’s harder for driv ers to see small children.

September 18th, 2022 Sunday 12 - 2 p.m.None

* Teach your child to put away electronic gad gets, cell phone and ear buds while walking or cycling so they can scan for approaching vehi cles or hear traffic that may be hard to see. * If your child will be outside at night or in poor weather, make sure they’re wearing bright clothes and reflective gear. * Discourage play around or on railways. Only cross railway tracks at designated signals or signs and watch your step.

ICBC’s tips for drivers: * Every school day, unless otherwise posted, a 30 km/h speed limit is in effect in school zones from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. In playground zones, a 30 km/h speed limit is in effect every day from dawn to dusk. * Leave your phone alone, and watch for chil dren walking or cycling. Distraction is the lead ing factor for drivers in crashes with pedestrians and cyclists. * If a vehicle stops in front of you or in the lane next to you, they may be yielding to a pedes trian, so proceed with caution and be prepared to stop. * Watch for school buses. When their lights are flashing, vehicles approaching from both direc tions must stop. * Before getting into your vehicle, walk around it to make sure there are no small children hid den from view. Always look for pedestrians when backing up. * Make sure your headlights, brake and turn indicator lights are clear, visible and in good working condition at all times. This can help pedestrians see you better. * In residential areas, a ball or hockey net may mean that kids are playing nearby. Slow down and watch for children as they could dash into the street at any moment.

New Delhi (IANS): India, with regard to the problems faced by college students enrolled in Canadian universities, said this week that New Delhi has taken up the matter with Canada and that the country will continue to take measures to assist Indian students who would like to go abroad to study. In a weekly presser, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said on Thursday, "It is an important issue. We have taken up the matter with Canada to make sure that students are not affected. We will continue to take measures to help the Indian students who want to go abroad for studies." As had been reported in last week’s VOICE, the Indian High Commission in Ottawa had asked the Canadian authorities to look into the problems faced by college students enrolled in Canadian universities, who are unable to join the academic courses due to delays in processing of their visas and student permits. In an advisory, the High Commission said that Indian officials in Ottawa and consulates in Toronto and Vancouver continue to be engaged with Canadian interlocutors, including educational institutions and universities, regarding problems faced by the Indian students.

Rev Danzel People, Bishop, Diocese of Chandigarh, urged people to maintain peace and harmony in the society.“The church needs to take measures to ensure the unity of the Christian community,” he said.

Rev P.K. Samantaroy, Bishop, Diocese of Amritsar, who is also the President of the Masihi Maha Sabha, said that the Christian community in Punjab condemns these attacks.

Asserting that Christianity is not a European religion as it is believed to be, Samantaroy said it was introduced in India in the first century AD by St Thomas, a disciple of Jesus Christ, long before it was introduced in Europe. community in condemns attacks on churches, appeals for peace relief for

Stating that the Indian Christians are a peace-loving community, completely dedicated to the welfare and development of their nation, he said that this is evident from their contributions to different fields, including education, health, etc. over the years.

“The Indian Constitution allows every Indian to pursue the religion of his/her choice. These attacks are a clear violation of this constitutional right of the Christians, which we strongly condemn. If anyone is found indulging in any unlawful activity, action should be taken as per law. We urge people not to take law in their hands,” he said.

Terming the attacks as a clear attempt to divide the people of Punjab, Samantaroy said that any divisive voice is dangerous and should be dealt with an iron hand.

Chandigarh (IANS): Tension erupted in a village in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district located close to the India-Pakistan border on Wednesday after a group of mis creants vandalised a three-story church and broke the statues of Mother Mary and Jesus Christ. Condemning the incident, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann ordered a probe into the desecration and fire incident. “This is a highly con demnable incident, and severest of severe action must be taken against the perpetrators of this hei nous crime,” said the Chief Minis ter in a statement. He said he has directed the Di rector General of Police (DGP) to minutely probe into this unpardon able incident. He said this incident is a handiwork of the forces in imical to the peace, prosperity and progress of the state. After keeping the security guard captive at gunpoint, the miscreants also set on fire the pastor’s car. Vi suals of the car engulfing in flames and vandalisation of the statues were caught on CCTVs. A person was caught on the cam era repeatedly hitting the idol with a hammer. A large number of people belong ing to the community staged a sitin protest at Thakarpura village, the crime spot, demanding the ar rest of the accused and security for the minority community. The incident comes a day after the Akal Takht Jathedar, head of the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs, issued a statement against “forced conversions” by Christian mission “So-calledaries. Christian missionar ies have been forcibly converting Sikhs through fraudulent practic es. Sikhs and Hindus of Punjab are being misled and converted. This is happening right under the gov ernment’s nose. Though there are provisions in the law to book for superstitious practices in the name of religion, no government is ready to act against them (missionaries) due to vote bank politics,” Giani Harpreet Singh had said. Two days earlier, a group of ni hangs and their supporters disrupt ed an event organised by Christian missionaries at Daduana village in Amritsar.

It also listed that the Delhi Chief Secretary had in his report stated that the Delhi excise policy is a quid pro quo arrangement at the top level. It said since the Punjab policy was a copy of the Delhi one, the role of the Delhi Deputy Chief Minis ter, Chadha and the Punjab Excise Minister, and other private persons should be probed. It said this case fell within the purview of the Prevention of Cor ruption Act and a case should be registered in this regard also.

Amillions.SADdelegation led by its presi dent Sukhbir Singh Badal met Punjab Governor Banwarilal Puro hit and handed over a memoran dum stating that the Chief Minister and the Excise Minister have vio lated the provisions of the Official Secrets Act by making official files of the state available to Delhi Dep uty Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and MP Raghav Chadha, besides private persons.

Chandigarh (IANS): Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Badal on Thursday condemned at tempts by the Union government to back out from solemn guaran tees given to Punjab by the nation regarding the status of Chandigarh and demanded it be transferred to the state on priority. In a statement here, he also ap pealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rein in his ministers who were spreading discord with pro vocative statements Badal said Punjab was a border state and Punjabis’ sentiments were attached with the issue of status of Chandigarh and Punjabispeaking areas left out from the “Unionstate. Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhwat not only threw cau tion to the winds while speaking out on these sensitive subjects but has also tried to change the established position of the nation vis-a-vis the status of Chandigarh. I request him not to make such con troversial statements emphasising Rajasthan’s right over the BBMB as they will be taken as conflict of interest since he is from Rajasthan and in-charge of the Punjab BJP unit,” said Badal. Taking umbrage at the Union Min ister’s new plan on how the future of Chandigarh would be decided, Badal said: “It is not in the ambit of Shekhawat to take a decision on this matter. This is a closed chap ter. The UT status of Chandigarh is purely temporary pending transfer to HePunjab.”saidPunjab was the only state in the country which did not get to retain its capital after reorgan isation. “We were assured that Chandigarh will be transferred to us and this was further ratified by a government of India proclamation in 1970 that Chandigarh will be transferred to Punjab,” he pointed Heout.said this was followed by the Rajiv-Longowal accord which gave Chandigarh to Punjab and was ratified by both Houses of Par Badalliament.also expressed shock at Shekhawat’s announcement that Rajasthan had an equal right over the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). He said this state ment was completely illogical and without any merit. statement on Chandigarh conflict of interest: Sukhbir Badal

Munich, Germany: Rugged cliffs, deep valleys, raging rivers and the breathtaking Mediterranean coastline are the challenging terrain of the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy from 4 to 10 September 2022 in Albania. The country is still considered a real insider’s tip for off-road adventures, and this year 126 models of the R 1250 GS Trophy Competition, specially built for this event, will be available to the participating enduro riders from all over the world. While the BMW F 850 GS was used as the competition bike at the last International GS Trophy in 2020, BMW Motorrad is returning to the competition with the R 1250 GS Trophy Competition featuring the flat-twin boxer engine. This offers the original, superior power delivery, beefy torque and maximum traction for the sometimes very demanding off-road passages, which often require riding in low gear. For the model year 2023 the R 1250 GS will also be offered in A special two-tone paint finish as well as other colors. For example, this year’s BMW International GS Trophy Competition Bike features, among other things, a robust enduro engine guard made of aluminium, a headlight protection guard, cylinder head covers that are particularly well protected against damage and a TFT display that is secured against damage in a fall and from falling rocks. The particularly robust enduro footrests from the R 1250 GS Adventure and adjustable gearshift and footbrake levers are just as much in keeping with the tough off-road use ahead of the bikes. Metzeler Karoo 4 tyres are mounted on the cross-spoke wheels, replacing the standard Karoo 3 tyres to ensure the best possible grip on difficult terrain. Sports windshield, rally seat and Akrapovic rear silencer round off the equipment of the competition vehicle. With its 5 litre capacity, the small tank bag from the new Adventure Bag Collection offers the International GS Trophy participants another practical storage option for all kinds of utensils and some food and drink for the road. Thanks to its fasteners, it can be used as a rear bag on the R 1250 GS Trophy Competition. A waterproof inner bag, water-repellent and lockable two-way zips on the main compartment, a zipped lid pocket and a cable opening for a charging cable to the inside are further useful details of the Small Adventure Collection Tank Bag. You will find everything about this year’s BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy 2022 in Albania at www.gstrophy. com.

The SL trim level ($39,998) includes wireless charging, navigation, and the three-zone climate control sys tem from the top trim level. There is a price hike with frontwheel-drive base models with the 2.5-litre engine costing $28,998, while AWD is an extra $2,300 at $31,298. The new 1.5L engine is found on the SV and higher trim lev els. The SV arrives with All-Wheel Drive, a large moonroof, and the ProPILOT Driver assistance suite for $35,598. The motor is paired to a continu ously variable transmission (CVT) with wider ratios and less noise and vibration.Standard on every Rogue is Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 suite that includes forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and high beam assist. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity heated front seats, steering wheel, and ex terior mirrors are also part of the mix. All versions get a seven-inch driver information screen and an eight-inch infotainment system. The premium package ($2,200) adds leatherette upholstery, rear window sunshades, and a power liftgate. We tested the top Platinum grade at $39,998 (available only with AWD), which adds: Heated outboard rear seats and a wire less phone charging pad, 19-inch wheels and 10.8-inch display, and the head up display. There is also available rear sunshades, and a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot. A redesigned Divide and Hide cargo system is standard on the Premium. Nissan. Platinum models offer awe some quilted leather upholstery, a stitched dashboard, and other luxury touches. Our light tan and dark contrasting seats and interior trim looked simply fantastic! Tech is high with multiple gadgets and dig ital screens; with a nine-inch touch screen infotainment system, a cool 12.3-inch digital dashboard,; and a 10-inch head-up display (HUD) There are also heated front seats and steering wheel, and Wireless smart phone charging is available along with USB Type-C and TypeA charging ports. The roomy cabin has decent enough storage space beneath the floating centre con sole while a central arm-rest stor age provides even more room for hidden items. The rear is spacious enough with adequate legroom. Cargo volume is 1,113 L behind the rear seats – and total space with the rear seats folded is 2,098 L. On the road, the increase in power was noticeable when taken on the highway. Acceleration was smooth and the engine provided the needed power when having to pass. Highway handling is also noticeably improved with a new Electric Power Steering system. It responded well to quick lane changes and the updated suspen sion design kept the Rogue firmly planted to the road. Nissan’s Ve hicle Motion Control System pre dicts what the driver is trying to do and provide greater control in tak ing corners and lane changes. A central control wheel allows one to easily change between five driving modes: off-road, snow, standard, eco and Theresport.are no real issues with Rogue, pricing is little higher than the competition, but the standard equipment levels and higher qual ity trim, finish, and materials more than make up for the still fairly reasonable base price. In sum ming up, the 2022 Nissan Rogue continues on its mission to provide one of the best compact SUVs in its class. The improved interior cabin, abundance of technology, safety. And great road manners make the Nissan standout. Highly recom mended 2022 Nissan Rogue: Priced from $28,498. Platinum AWD Model as tested: $44,578 including freight and MorePDE.info at www.nissan.ca

Through the first 7 months of the year, we estimate the BC economy grew at a 5.1 per cent average year-over-year rate, compared to 4.4 per cent for the Canadian econo my as a whole. Growth of provincial GDP is a key indicator of economic ac tivity, but provincial GDP data is only available annually and with a considerable delay. That’s why we developed the BCREA Nowcast – a tool for tracking monthly growth in the BC Economy. The Nowcast compiles monthly economic data into one easy to understand number, ex pressed as the year-over-year growth in the BC economy. As the underlying economic data is released with a oneor two-month lag, our esti mates for monthly growth will also lag real-time by two months (e.g., estimat ed growth in January will be published at the end of March). There are no adjust ments to the model estimate except for those due to revi sions to the data.derlyingun

ALCOHOL in moderation can be good for your health. We have written dozens of arti cles on the topic and an entire section of our website is dedicated to the topic. In short, there are plenty of good reasons to enjoy a drink at the cocktail hour. But is there a time for quitting altogether? Some people think so. And the idea seems to be catching on. You may have heard about the “sober cu rious” movement. Coined by writer, Ruby Warrington, being sober curious is about enjoying the benefits of an alcohol-free life style. It has nothing to do with achieving so briety after problems with alcoholism. Some efforts are short-term, like “Dry Janu ary” and “Sober October”. These trendy campaigns are often paired with charitable Butcauses.over recent years, more and more people, especially young professionals, are making a deliberate choice to abstain from alcohol – not for a month, but as a lifestyle choice for the long term. Their online trib utes to the benefits of not drinking are com Despitepelling. the list of reasons for healthy moder ate drinking, they are celebrating a new list of all the reasons for not drinking at all. In terms of good health, they point to higher energy levels, better sleep, healthier livers, and lower risk of heart disease. But they are also attributing their position on alcohol to a more authentic engagement with friends and family, as well as with the world around Inthem.some countries, the growing numbers of teetotalers are having an economic impact. In Japan, for example, the sober-curious younger generation is rejecting past customs of heavy drinking after work. This trend has resulted in tax revenue from alcohol sales declining by 50% since 1994. Although nei ther the tax agency nor the liquor industry will point to it, Japanese life expectancy from birth climbed from 80 to 85 years over the same period. There are other tax-related correlations be tween alcohol consumption and societal health trends. When governments increase taxes on alcohol, traffic fatalities decline. So does the rate of violent crime. The spread of sexually transmitted diseases is reduced. There are fewer cases of cirrhosis of the Inliver.other words, people are highly price con scious about alcohol. When it costs more, people purchase less of it. This may be the ultimate reason why now could be an optimal moment to quit drink Withing. everything getting more expensive, cutting alcohol from the shopping list may help ease the squeeze on the pocketbook. According to 2017 Survey of Household Spending, the average Canadian household spends about $1,100 per year on alcohol. In the U.S., a whopping 63% of people aged 21-25 drink alcohol. Whether it be school expenses or early-career wages, it’s easy to see the financial motivation for sobriety. But is the sober curious movement as good for the old as it may be for the young? Sir William Osler, famed Canadian physician and one of the original four founding profes sors of Johns Hopkins Hospital, remarked, “Alcohol is for the elderly what milk is for the young.” But never forget about moderation. And know that moderation is surprisingly easy to Adultexceed.men should not exceed two standard alcoholic drinks a day. Women, due to their smaller size, should not exceed one drink a day. A standard drink means a 12oz. or 341 ml beer with 5% alcohol, or a 5 oz. or 142 ml glass of wine, or 1.5 oz or 43 ml shot of 40% spirits.
