CONTENTS
I believe in the Butterfly Effect. If a butterfly incidentally flaps its wings, it might trigger a distant hurricane in some days. In my view, an object small like an installation, a piece of time short like an hour or a person noteless like a vendor is all likely to be the butterfly, being able to change our city, our life or even the world.

[Individual] Landscape Path Design:
01 LIFE CYCLE Individual work 2016.9-2016.12
Description: 501 studio project in Master of Landscape Architecture program in University of Pennsylvania. This project explored the design language of landscape architecture. The site for this studio is a wooded stretch of East Fairmount Park wedged between the developing neighborhood and the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
LIFE CYCLE [Landscape Mapping & Path Design]: Site Mapping Triangulation and Overlays Using site-based measurement and observation, I experiences light, space, shade and movement in landscape and alternated views to see and script the site.

How can color influence the growth of trees? Because different absorption rate of different wavelength, different color of light have a different inuence on the growth of vegetations. For most of the trees, those trees are exposed to more blue light tend to grow taller; trees are exposed red light tend to grow bigger and have more branches. Pink light, as a combination of blue light and red light, can almost provide the normal light condition that trees need. In this project, I added the certain color of light on the base of normal light condition or filter other lights to manipulate the growth of forests to create a fantastic and dreamy landscape.

Plan Experiencing the Life Cycle of the Forest In this park, the existing path and newly design path connect with each other as a cycle. Along the cycle, people can experience the whole life cycle of forests. From young forest to middle-age forest, to mature forest, and to a death forest, people are able to experience the different lights and shades, different space and atmosphere from different ages forest and in different elevation and landforms.
Does News Stand really sell newspaper? According to the policy in Guangzhou, News stand can only sell newspapers and magazines, but the reality is : different News Stand which are proximate to different facilities will provide different informal commodities and services. With these informal sells and services, every different News Stand formed a small community which bring vast vitality to the surroundings and show how smallness can also make big difference. Based on an in-depth study of the impact of News Stands' informal sells and services, a more exible and community-friendly design is born.

News Stand as a public community space in residential area.
News Stand as a exible and space-saving store in the commercial area.
News Stand as a leisure and entertainment pavilion in the park.
Small changable community Based on the research , the News Stand increases or decreases its selling space in different time and different surroundings and forms a flexible and changable small community. My design follows this rule and makes this small community provide better service to our citizens, no matter sunny or rainy, open or crowded, day or night, without obstruction of the sidewalk space.
22
The power of smallness
The News Stand as a little object is not dead and still. Every little factor changes each other unceasingly in the complicated system behind it. The community might have more vitality and security because of the little change of these small objects. Just like the Butterfly Effect .

As the equal currency, the TIME plays a crucial role in the exchange between work, study and other activities. Students farms and earns time currency to trade for basic needs, study and other stuff. They won't have enough time for study and skills improvement when they are not fully engaged. Students will get a TIME bonus when they enrich their knowledge and upgrade their technique. As they accumulate their time of studying, the value of time follows the increase. Finally they can graduate with a certain accumulation of the time for study and the respect for the opportunity of studying.

This is a school that time is the only calibration here. In this school, there is no the richs and the poors.Time is the only calibration here. Every student earns their chance of education through agricultural working. Teens from village earn their living and opportunity, Teens from cities learn to cherish their opportunity and resource. In here, no pain, no gain, let the TIME guides students to understand how education can truly feed back in their life. Furthermore, we hope that this new self-sufficiency educational system can trigger the introspection and revolution of the present education mode.
Banyan Tree Culture In South China, Banyan tree is a symbol of community life. Adults used to gather under those big Banyan tree in the leisure time to talk with each other about daily life. Children played with neighbor's children and made friends of their whole life. H o w e v e r, w i t h t h e r a p i d p r o c e s s o f urbanization, millions of Banyan trees before our door have gone. People have no more public space like that anymore. We never know our neighbor's name. Our children are told they should not take candies from strangers. In this project, I want to reproduce those 'banyan tree space' in this South China Art& Culture Museum, because this kind of scene is the true treasure and maybe now a relic of South China Culture. I hope this architectural reproduction of cultural memory can finally trigger the recall of our personal relationship before the rapid urbanization.

重现记忆中的大榕树 Reproduce the Banyan tree in the memory The museum's site is set at the water bank of Baiyun Lake park, where used to have a lot of big banyan trees which are removed to build a museum. The original community life of three villages around were taken. Reproducing the 'Banyan tree' space and implanting it as a culture exhibition in the museum will not only bring back the memory of the community life under the banyan tree but also make the new museum more open and become a new community and culture centre for villagers nearby and even citizens of Guangzhou.

Nostalgia Under the tree On the tree
South China Art& Culture Museum as a public architecture has its responsibility to give something back to the public. In this project, the museum is not a arrogant and indifferent building, which usually look distant from the most common and homely villagers. On the contrary, it acts actively as a community space and nostalgia space to comfort the lose of the old Banyan tree in everyone's memory.
With the rapid development of internet and technology, more and more open-source hardwares and procedures are availble for everyone to use and make their own inventions, which gives birth to a kind of grassroot inventors called MAKER. In order to make Guangzhou a metropolis with more creativity, this design intend to build a paradise for makers' development and cross -disciplinary cooperarion. In this region, not only makers can be able to get assistance in their development from various aspects, multiple communities, including villagers and artists, can be integrated together as well. With the integration of multiple creative communities and the design of makers space in different scales, this region will be the radio of makers in Guangzhou to propagate the creativity spirit to every citizens.

Make your own career. Make your own studio. In the maker special region, makers can make their own apartments and studios by different free combination maker modules. By the development of the maker group, the studio can be developed for their need as well. This special region will be a dynamic and constantly changing community, which best describes the spirit of maker.
At the same time, this kind of construction method will also be good for more reasonable arrangement of the construction fund. It can not only attract the investment from the corporation and government but also make cofunding of urban construction available for grassroot fund.
MAKER MAKERCITY[Urban CITY[UrbanDesign]: Design]:Viaduct ViaductRenovation Renovation The viaduct bridge cut the region into two separated pieces, which is negative for the development of the region. However, the original Art Region under the viaduct bridge brought this area some vitality to a certain extent. Therefore, in this design, the negative space under the viaduct bridge is renovated and try to make the negative division a positive link which can attract visitors and promote the cooperation of makers and artists instead.

The decline of Lion Dance Super Ordinary is the first student-ran urban research workshop in Guangzhou, which is organized by the Student Urban Planning Academic Association cofounded by me. In the workshop, my team researched the most densely urban village Longdong in Guangzhou. In the first day of the workshop, we found that Longdong used to own the best and biggest Lion Dance team in Guangzhou. With the further research, we founded the rapid urbanization of the metropolis had gradually eroded the deveopment space of this traditional culture. We conducted mapping of the original Lion Dance route and designed a new route and corresponding space strategy for the better preserve of Lion Dance culture.

The old route of the lion dance is the link between all the public space (ancestral halls) in Longdong. In the spring festival, the lion dance team will cruise around all ancestral halls in the village to commemorate their ancestors. With the construction of the village and the city, the number of outcomers in Longdong is growing rapidly every year, which leads to the construction of new public space besides the ancestral halls, like the culture center and playground. At the same time, the street space of the old lion dance route is largely invaded by the new buildings in the village, which is against the inheritance of the lion dance culture. After research and communication, my team designed a new lion dance route, which can retrieve the missing link between the public space for villagers and outcomers and be beneficial for the inheritance of lion dance culture.

As one of the most important modernism architects, Frank Lloyd Wright showed his modernity not only as architecture’s appearance and material, but also expressed it as the combination of space and the behavior of people live in it. Most of the studies concede that Wright ‘s design style has 4 periods, but existing studies mostly focus on the qualitative analysis of building’s appearance and material. In this study, the evolution of spatial structure and how it influences resident’s behavior in the different periods , including its logic behind, are analysis quantitatively base on the space syntax.
