Volcom Australia x Josie Prendergast Volcom Australia is nurturing the talents of 13 Year old Byron Bay surfer Josie Prendergast. Josie was raised in the Philpi pines until the age of 3 when her family moved to Byron Bay, the hippy surf town on the east Coast of Australia. Josie has a very chil vibe, she loves surfing and hanging with her friends and studies at Byron Bay high School where the learning mantra is 'm i agination, the eye of the soul.' Anyone that has spent some time in Byron bay wil tel you the clock ticks a little slower in those parts. It's recommended you walk with bare feet and reconnect with the earth, surf for pleasure, eat naturally to sustain and if you dare maybe open your mind and feel yourself slow down. Longboard surfers first arrived in Byron Bay in the 1960's, revelling in the local supreme surf spots ‘The Pass’ and ‘ Wategos’. Shortly after came the now infamousA' quarius Festival,' the counter culture and arts Festival held in near by Hippy town Nimbin which sealed the area as an alternative living paradise. The Vibe stil bubbles today although tourism and the more mainstream retailers are popping up in the town centre, you can stil almost guarantee anyone who comes of age in the Byron Bay area wil understand the m i portance of creativity, freedom and a natural way of living; as Josie does. Here at Volcom we love a bit of down time.. Chil in at the beach, taking it slow havin' a good ol’ time. Someone we know feels the exact same way is Photographer and Volcom Featured Artist Elle Green. Elles’ photos remind us of better days when we vay-cay away from home and get up only to get down. Elle has exhibited two years running at Japan's premiere Surf festival; Greenroom in Yokohama. Elle travels almost continuously between Sydney, Melbourne, Tokyo, LA, San Francisco and New York. Elle is a Photographer constantly collaborating with Volcom Australia wether it be for Tee prints, Campaign photoshoots or blogging for Volcomunity.com (The Volcom online blogger community of cool girls around the globe doing cool things). Elle took off to Byron Bay in November to have a little road trip and also spend some time with the awesome Josie Prendergast; Surfing, Beaching and sharing coconuts.
