Are we experiencing an exit from the global financial crisis? Or is South Europe close to a new crisis that may affect the European Union and the Euro? This year started vaguely and it contin‐ ues with multiple fluctuations around the globe on a daily basis. On the other hand, there are strong indicators of many markets in recovery, even some showing first signs of growth or poten‐ tial for growth in the short term. Surprises may arise from unexpected or “expected” causes, but for sure, expecting the unexpected is still the current state‐of‐affairs. Focusing on how to manage market, operational and legal risks is paramount, as well as cost re‐ duction but also long‐term client service. On our behalf, we remain a strong and faithful technol‐ ogy partner and we continue to strive to provide our clients with the best‐of‐breed global solu‐ tions, to help them optimize business processes, improve their services and client retention but also to help them for a quick and beneficial ROI during these difficult times.

Do Family Offices need portfolio management systems? Family offices are a growing force in the international investment community. The number of ultra high net worth families around the world has proliferated as the wealthy in developed countries accumu‐ lated assets during the recent boom years, while rapid growth in the emerging econo‐ mies of Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America has created—and will continue to create—a whole new swathe of family fortunes. And as more families come to appreciate the range of wealth manage‐ ment services that a family office can pro‐ vide, demand for such structures is ex‐ pected to grow. The current market turmoil means there is even more attraction for high net worth families in establishing a single family of‐ fice, or within a multi‐family office. For rather than being held hostage to the fluc‐ tuating fortunes of traditional financial service providers and their investment

policies, with a family office they can exer‐ cise greater control over how they invest and manage their wealth in a way that meets their specific long‐term objectives. But while the sector as a whole looks set to flourish, if individual organisations are to live up to the high expectations of their client families they must offer exceptional levels of service. And to provide that, it is increasingly important that family offices have a sophisticated technology infrastruc‐ ture in place—an area where, for the most part, the industry has been lagging to date. Throughout the financial services industry, technology is becoming an evermore inte‐ gral part of the organizational framework. It is through the use of sophisticated sys‐ tems that firms are proving best able to seek out returns in this increasingly global‐ ised, complex, and rapid fire investment environment—and do so in a risk and cost controlled manner. But while cutting edge

IT capabilities are indispensable, how the systems architecture is structured is equally important. Improvements are possible by implementing a specific solution to fix a particular problem, whether that happens to be a new trade order management sys‐ tem, a more robust risk engine, or a better reporting tool. But addressing an issue in isolation will only produce limited results. Rather, the greatest gains will come from having a reliable and functionally rich plat‐ form that encompasses the full breadth and extent of the trading lifecycle, integrating the various front and back office functions in a virtuous loop of data integrity and op‐ erational efficiency. And it is through this type of comprehensive framework that a family office’s latent synergies can be fully realized. To learn how you can benefit from our solu‐ tion contact us at sl@finvent.com
