VIRTUAL REALITY

• Virtual Reality (VR) refers to the innovaon that gives nearly genuine and convincing encounters in a manufactured or virtual way.

The applicaon of VR educaon is essenal since it brings the theorecal subject maer as close to reality as it can.

VIRTUAL REALITY

• The applicaon of VR in the classroom replaces the learning environment with a virtual world where learners are totally disassociated with what is currently happening in the genuine world.

• This applicaon is an example of the integraon of technology in the teaching and learning process as part of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK).

Benefits of VR Educaon

• Making education accessible: In SouthAfrican schools, virtual reality can be used as teaching aids to compensate for the lack of other necessary teaching resources. For example, students can have access to virtual physics laboratories through VR.

• Enhancing educational experiences: Virtual reality enhances teaching and learning encounters by affording students with the opportunity to have immersive and interactive experiences that are not applicable in a non-resourced classroom.

UNIVERSITY-OF JOHANNESBURG

• Explaining theoretical concepts: Virtual reality application in education is deemed to be effective due to its affordance to students to have access to content that they would otherwise not have access to.They can see how various processes occur in real time. E.g., Students can have a real time visualization experience of how magnets interact with each other.

AUGMENTED REALITY

•Augmented Reality refers to the improvement the genuine world by the superimposition of computer simulated data on the real-world environment.

•AR in education can eradicate all the issues of lack of resources in schools and bridges the gap between content and reality.

AUGMENTED REALITY

•An augment reality is a type of reality that superimposes genuine world environment with a partially virtual environment.Augmented reality is to a great extent resembles the genuine world circumstances as compared to the virtual reality (VR).

•An example of the application ofAR in education is students using their smartphones to view the Earth and its different layers as shown on the left.

Benefits of Augmented Reality

• Interacve learning: Augmented reality promotes acve and student centered learning where learners learn authencally through an inquiry based approach.

• Informave: Augmented reality provides access to informaon that would not otherwise not be accessible to learners. Learners can explore how various processes occur in real me without being physically there.

• Time sufficient: The integraon of AR in educaon is me savvy since learners can pace their own learning process and the teachers spend less me explaining maers that can be invesgated using Augmented Reality applicaons.
