Agenda Item 11 MEETING OF DÚN LAOGHAIRE AREA COMMITTEE 1st September 2014 DÚN LAOGHAIRE BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT
Question:
Councillor M. Merrigan
“To ask the Chief Executive to provide details on the number of businesses that have paid the BID Levy and what measures, if any, are currently in place or envisaged by the Council to monitor the collection of the BID Levy to ensure that compliance and revenue levels are sufficient to sustain the operation of the Dún Laoghaire BID Company and its activities without recourse to further public funding or provisions being made for such in the upcoming or future budgets?”
Reply: The Council at its meeting held on the 10th March 2014 adopted a resolution to establish a Business Improvement District within the Dún Laoghaire Town Area. The BID company subsequently submitted a copy of their budget for the financial period 1st April 2014 to 31st March 2015 to the Council to enable calculation of the BID levy payable by individual businesses within the BID scheme area the income from which will fund the projects and initiatives set out in the budget. In accordance with the legislative requirements and the agreement in place with the BID Company the Council issued the BID invoice to those businesses within the BID scheme area and will issue 2 reminder notices, the first of which recently issued. A total of 809 invoices issued of which 203 have been paid. Following the issue of the final reminder notice by the Council the taking of further action(s) in respect of those businesses that have not discharged the BID levy payable in respect their individual property or properties will be a matter for consideration of, and determination by, the BID Company.
