Agenda Item A25 MEETING OF DÚN LAOGHAIRE-RATHDOWN COUNTY COUNCIL 8TH SEPTEMBER 2014 SOCIAL HOUSING UNITS Question:

Councillor M. Merrigan

“To ask the Chief Executive what measures, if any, are in place or envisaged to facilitate persons living alone in social housing units of two or more bedrooms who may wish to downsize to one bedroom units and whether statistical information is currently available and can be provided on the numbers of persons currently living alone in social housing units of two or more bedrooms?” Reply: In accordance with the Council’s Allocation Scheme, adopted by the Council on 13th June 2011, as amended on 4th July 2011, priority will be given to tenants seeking to downsize their accommodation. Accordingly, by means of this clause in the Allocations Scheme, the Housing Department gives priority to tenants seeking to downsize their accommodation. The adopted Allocations Scheme has determined: In all cases, an offer of transfer to alternative accommodation will only be made where: (i) The rent and service charges accounts are clear, where a binding legal agreement, to the satisfaction of the County Council’s Law Agent, has been entered into to pay arrears of rent and service charges. (ii)

The dwelling being vacated is in a good state of repair and decoration.

(iii)

The household concerned is, as far as the Council is aware, not anti-social.

There are 90 persons living alone in social housing units of two or more bedrooms. Contact: M. Ruane, Senior Executive Officer, Housing Department
