Agenda Item A26 MEETING OF DÚN LAOGHAIRE-RATHDOWN COUNTY COUNCIL 8TH SEPTEMBER 2014 TWINNING Question:

Councillor M. Merrigan

“To ask the Chief Executive to outline the current position of the County’s ‘officially twinned’ links with the County of Ynys Mȏn (Anglesey) in Wales / Cymru and Brest in Brittany / Breizh and the friendship agreement signed in 2008 with Izumo in Japan and what plans, if any, has the Council to revitalise, expand and to explore the tourism and trade potential of such twinning initiatives and for the promotion and facilitation of sustainable civic, community and business links with towns and cities in the European Union and around the world?” Reply: The Council continues to maintain a small budget of €3,000 (2014) to enable it to explore any opportunities to promote our twinned links with the County of Ynys Mȏn (Anglesey) in Wales / Cymru and Brest in Brittany / Breizh and the friendship agreement signed with Izumo in Japan. Over the last few years proposed projects to be funded included a link up between CoCo Markets in Dun Laoghaire and a local market in Anglesey, and the hosting of a Japanese Market Day in Cabinteely Park. Neither project proceeded to completion. There are currently no planned projects for the remainder of 2014.
