Meeting Note Central Dún Laoghaire Local Policing Forum Public Meeting held on September 21st 2016. A public meeting was held in the Boylan Centre, Susses Street on September 21st at 7.00pm. The purpose of the meeting was to provide a forum for local residents and businesses to identify local safety issues and challenges that require attention. Unfortunately the weather was bad on the night of the 21st and the attendance at the meeting was quite low. All issues raised are recorded and will form part of the work plan for the Local Policing Forum Committee for the coming months. Inspector Tom Condon (An Garda Siochána) chaired the meeting and started by welcoming everyone. Inspector Condon informed the meeting about the work of the Local Policing Forum over the past year and progress made on issues. Sargent Seamus Ryan (An Garda Siochána) presented an overview of the crime statistics for Dun Laoghaire which are showing a general improvement in the area. The following is a short synopsis of the main issues raised:
There is an issue relating to Young People and Anti-Social behaviour in the Library Road / Rosary Gardens area of the town. There was a request for higher viability of An Garda Siochána in this area. It was noted that there was a need for wider community involvement and support from the local Youth Service to engage these young People. It was suggested that there is possibly a need for CCTV in Lower Georges Street. The issue of unwanted phone calls was raised. Gardai advised to never give any personal of financial information out over the phone. This is a potential scam. Clarinda Park was identified as an area that needs additional Garda Visibility as residents are experiencing issues relating to drinking in the park, robbery from cars and speeding in very narrow streets. Attendees at the meeting asked for an update on the Cross Avenue Traffic Calming Scheme. It was reported that this scheme proceeding however it was acknowledged that staffing issues have delayed its implementation. The poor attendance at the meeting was discussed and the need for better advertising was raised. It was noted that help was required to spread the work about public meetings. It was suggested that we should consider “thematic issue” meetings. It was also suggested that we should post the information to all residents associations.
Inspector Condon then closed the meeting and thanked everyone for taking the time to attend.
