Ha Long Bay Wonders of the East

Thanh Lanh Valley

Perched at an elevation of 1,000 meters, Thanh Lanh Valley Golf & Resort, also known as Serena Valley Resort Golf & Club, offers an idyllic escape with its perpetually cool climate, where temperatures range between 1825°C. Just a scenic two-hour drive from Hanoi, this premier golf destination is seamlessly connected to the Tam Dao, Thanh Lanh, and Dai Lai golf regions, making it a convenient and compelling choice for discerning golfers.

The course is a masterpiece by renowned designer Sir Nick Faldo, who has artfully woven the natural landscape of Thanh Lanh Lake and the Tam Dao mountains into the fabric of the game. Golfers are treated to a diverse and immersive experience, navigating through distinct environments including water-laden, hillside, parkland, and links-style sections. The signature holes, set on a picturesque peninsula over Thanh Lanh Lake,

culminate in a dramatic finale along the lake’s shoreline, framed by majestic mountain vistas.

Stretching over 7,000 yards, the course offers a challenge for even the most seasoned golfers, yet its five sets of tees and generous fairways ensure an enjoyable experience for players of all skill levels. The clubhouse, designed to evoke the grandeur of a medieval castle, overlooks the finishing holes and seamlessly integrates modern luxuries such as VIP areas, accent lighting, and a well-appointed pro shop.

Thanh Lanh Valley GC

Ba Na Hills

Ba Na Hills Golf Club, located just 25 minutes inland from Danang, Vietnam, is nestled near the foothills of the cable car station that ascends to the famous Bana Hills. Managed by IMG, this exceptional course holds the distinction of being the first designed by Luke Donald in Asia and globally.

Set within the valleys of the surrounding mountain ranges, Ba Na Hills offers a golf experience that harmoniously blends with the natural landscape. The course’s elevated holes provide breathtaking vantage points, offering spectacular views of the valleys below, making each round a visual treat as well as a sporting challenge.

The course features significant elevation changes and natural elements, including mature hardwood trees and meandering streams that add character to several holes. The varied lengths of the holes, coupled with the rolling

terrain, require a diverse array of shots, ensuring an engaging and dynamic round.

The front nine is laid out in classic parkland style, surrounded by serene pine forests. In contrast, the back nine winds through the hills, offering dramatic elevation changes, blind shots, and challenging doglegs. These latter holes provide the course’s most dramatic and demanding play.

Bunkering at Ba Na Hills is distinct, with long grass edges partially obscuring the sand, making it visible only from certain angles. The greens are subtly undulated and angled from the fairways, offering a variety of pin positions that demand strategic approach shots. This combination of thoughtful design and natural beauty makes Ba Na Hills Golf Club a must-play destination in Vietnam.

Ba Na Hills

Hoiana Shores

Hoiana Shores Golf Club, the first course in Vietnam designed by Robert Trent Jones II Golf Course Architects (RTJ II), is a stunning links-style destination. Located just 45 minutes south of Danang International Airport and a mere 8 kilometers from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hoi An Ancient Town, Hoiana Shores is set along the picturesque Vietnamese coastline. In a nod to the local culture of “The City of Lanterns,” the course features lanterns atop its pins instead of traditional flags.

This championship course is characterized by its minimalist design, featuring rolling dunes and limited vegetation. The two returning nines traverse a pure sand coastal landscape, with TifEagle Bermuda grass greens and Zeon Zoysia grass on the tees and fairways. The design carefully preserved the natural dune and pine terrain, allowing holes to weave through native Casuarina trees and coastal brush. As golfers approach the

final stretch, the course opens up along the sea, playing directly through the coastal dunes.

Hoiana Shores offers a firm, fast-playing surface reminiscent of the traditional links courses found in the British Isles, yet set in a tropical environment. The course’s wide corridors allow for varied strategic play, making it suitable for both professional tournaments and enjoyable rounds for amateurs.

The back nine provides a thrilling conclusion, with Holes 15, 16, and 17 offering a unique challenge as the coastal winds sweep across the fairways and greens. Precision is essential to navigate these holes successfully. The final hole, playing back toward the clubhouse, demands careful attention as it faces into the prevailing wind, offering a fitting and memorable end to a round at this exceptional golf destination.

Hoiana Shores Golf Course

Angkor Golf Resort

The Angkor Golf Resort, designed by six-time major champion Sir Nick Faldo, stands as Cambodia’s premier golf course, setting a new benchmark for excellence in the region. Opened in December 2007 after receiving a blessing from local monks, this world-class course has firmly placed Cambodia on the international golf destination map.

Meticulously maintained to the highest standards, the course features the latest Paspalum turf, ensuring superb playing conditions throughout the year. The fairways, tees, and greens reflect the quality and attention to detail synonymous with a Faldo-designed and managed course.

Angkor Golf Resort offers a fair but challenging test for golfers of all skill levels, requiring thoughtful strategy on every hole. Bunkers and water hazards are strategically placed yet clearly visible from the tee boxes, encouraging

careful shot selection. The greens, with their subtle undulations, reward a variety of approach shots, while the course’s difficulty can be adjusted daily through specific pin positions. Multiple tee box locations also allow both low and mid-handicap players to tailor the course length to their abilities.

The final three holes at Angkor Golf Resort are particularly noteworthy, offering a thrilling conclusion to the round. The par-5 16th hole, at 588 yards, is a formidable challenge, likely out of reach in two shots for most players.

Angkor Golf Resort is not just a golf course; it’s an experience that combines strategic play with the serene beauty of Siem Reap, making it a must-visit destination for golfers worldwide.

Angkor Golf Resort

Chhun On Golf Resort

Nestled just an hour north of Phnom Penh’s vibrant downtown, Chhun On Golf Resort is poised to become Cambodia’s next premier golf destination. Conveniently located near landmarks such as the Royal Palace and the National Museum, this emerging resort is set to redefine the golfing landscape in Cambodia.

Designed by the renowned Brian Curley of Schmidt-Curley Design, the resort is developing two distinct 18-hole courses. The first, The Lakes Course, is scheduled to open in late February 2024, introducing a new level of golf to Phnom Penh. The Palms Course, slated to debut in 2025, will further elevate the resort’s prestige and allure.

Both courses are meticulously designed with five different tee boxes to accommodate golfers of all skill levels, with the black tees stretching over an impressive 7,300 yards. As Brian Curley notes, “Our goal is to prioritize the golf experience, creating the finest courses

in the country. Each layout is distinct, fulfilling our ambition to offer a unique and varied golfing journey.”

The courses feature Zoysia Zeon fairways and tee boxes, along with Zoysia primo greens, a grass variety celebrated for its use in prestigious courses like Hoiana, Sentosa, and Stones Hill in Bangkok. This choice not only guarantees top-tier playing surfaces but also enhances the visual appeal of the courses.

A standout feature of Chhun On Golf Resort is the island-green nineteenth hole, strategically placed between the two finishing holes. Accessible only by boat and nestled beneath the clubhouse, this bonus hole offers an exhilarating challenge and a picturesque conclusion to a round on either course. This unique touch underscores the resort’s commitment to delivering an extraordinary golfing experience.

Chhun On Golf Course

Vattanac East Course

Situated on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, Vattanac Golf Resort features two distinct 18-hole courses designed by the legendary Sir Nick Faldo, located just 15 kilometers from Cambodia’s capital. The resort offers a unique golfing experience with the publicly accessible East Course and the exclusive West Course, reserved for private members.

The par-72 East Course stretches over 7,400 yards, weaving through meticulously crafted scale models of pre-Angkorean structures, including the iconic Preah Vihear Temple, Bayon Temple, and Angkor Wat. This design creates a captivating blend of culture, leisure, and golf, offering players not just a round of golf, but a journey through Cambodia’s rich heritage. The course’s elevated teeing areas provide stunning views of the surrounding countryside, enhancing the overall experience. Grassed with the latest Paspalum variety, the course ensures excellent playing conditions year-round.

While the terrain is relatively flat, the strategic use of mounding, intricate bunker complexes, and extensive landscaping more than compensates, adding both challenge and visual interest.

Vattanac Golf Resort appeals to both high and low handicap golfers, with its versatile tee options even capable of hosting professional tournaments. Golfers can enjoy the convenience of standard golf buggies driven by caddies, with the option to upgrade to premium carts equipped with GPS, further enhancing the luxury experience at this exceptional resort.
