UNDERSTANDING THE MECHANISM INTENTION : DEPLOYABLE SEATING The main concept is to provide a sitting module for the users catering to the site. The ideal height for sitting is 450 mm and the height for a person to work on a table is 900 mm. So the module was designed according to the ergonomically ideal heights such that a person can sit as well as is able to work on it while standing. The deployment of the module is in the ratio of 1:2. To look at the explorations of scissor and origami mechanism, click HERE
Scissor mechanism opened at 135° angle
Scissor mechanism opened at 45° angle
Ratio by restricting scissor mechanism at both angles gives a ratio of 1:2
Surface Development Process (1:10 Scale Prototypes):
Basic two dimensional Scissor mechanism
Two dimensional mechanism into Third dimension
Adding surface to the top and bottom. Shape is derived by marking the open and close position
Open position, height 90mm
Diagram showing addition of surface on top of scissor mechanism
Diagram showing addition of surface on top of scissor mechanism
Closed position, height 45mm
As there were pointed edges in the seating position which is uncomfortable, the surface was altered to a straight edge in the final module

MS Box Section welded with 8 mm MS plate for housing of thrust bearing for horizontal movement. The vertical movement is done through ball bearing.
The module deploys with the use of wheels moving on the track placed below. The Module stops at the desired heights with the help of a stopper.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT INTENTION : SOUND OF SILENCE The main idea is to create a space where there is cross-programming of two opposite functions. I have used the duality, ‘SOUND and SILENCE’ and designed a library and a Music Academy in the given site. The two opposite functions by nature are combined by a strategy of ‘Intersection’. The inference of the strategy takes place in a common space where both the function happen simultaneously. To know more on this project click
NOTION OF WORK A compulsion. A thing which I don’t like to do but have to do and in which there is some mental stress.
NOTION OF PLAY Play for me is exploring new things and having fun which can also be a learning and productive experience

THE LANGUAGE OF SPACE INTENTION : LET’S IMAGINE Designing an interactive intervention and an exhibition space. Site : Sanskar Kendra, Ahmedabad The three attributes below were the main concept of how the user should feel about the building. 1. Contrast 2. Wiseness 3. Accommodation The concept was furthermore developed to Five Principles of Architecture and Modulor Man and incorporate those in the design.
Modules following the ergonomics of Modulor Man:
The final modules for Intervention derived from the concept of Modulor Man and the Five Principles of Architecture:
Viewing Partition - Inspired from the ribbon window concept
Transparent wall - Inspired from the free facade concept
Table - Inspired from the Pilotis concept
Organic seating - Inspired from the free flow of plan concept

WAYS OF SEEING STRUCTURES IN ARCHITECTURE: DECODING THE WORKS OF MASTERS - CANDELA, OTTO AND INTENTION : Exploring the development of from in different materials and gaining the knowledge of structural systems. Three methods were used; Tensile structure, Hyperbola Parabolic structure and Catenary arch inspired by the three master architects and structures were made starting from frame-work till the end prototype.
