ARVO 2013

Saturday - May 4th Robertson, Peto,Dhillon, Williams, trucco, Van Beek, houston, newby, Macgillivray 10:00 AM -10:30 AM grand c - D; session - 201; iD - P53

Wide-field Ophthalmic Imaging for Biomarker Discovery in Coronary Heart Disease Wide-field ophthalmic imaging with a slO was exceptionally well tolerated by the study participants with no exclusions. it proved feasible for a non-medical, non-specialist photographer to acquire the images for our investigation into chD.

Widefield Angiography-Navigated Panretinal Photocoagulation in the Management of Retinal Ischemia and Rebound Edema We demonstrate the integrated use of Optos 200tx wide field imaging with navilas Panretinal laser to manage peripheral retinal ischemia and subsequently mitigate rebound edema while preserving most peripheral vision. this approach is novel in its treatment of extensive peripheral ischemia beyond the early treatment Diabetic Retinopathy (etDRs)-7 field territory.

Poster The Use of Non-contact Ultra-widefield Imaging in Premature Infants with Retinopathy of Prematurity use of the non contact Optos P200MA system for obtaining high resolution ultra-wide-field images in premature infants with ROP is reliable and effective. the images acquired are then able to assist with diagnosis and management. Poster Increased Fundus Autofluorescence Related to Outer Retinal Disruption Outer retinal disruption may result in hyperautofluorescence due an unmasking of normal background RPe autofluorescence. this mechanism may help explain hyperautofluorescence in a variety of settings including several of the white dot syndromes, the active margin of acute zonal occult outer retinopathy, resolved csc, rhegmatogeous retinal detachment after repair, and the hyperautofluorescent ring in retinitis pigmentosa. Multi-Imaging Using the Ultra Widefield Retinal Imaging Device for Fundus Screening the ultra-wide-field retinal imaging device can be useful for fundus screening for diseases posterior to the equatorial zone. however, to screen in the retinal periphery, the inferior and superior images also should be used with the central image. Poster Peripheral Diabetic Retinal Lesions Identified on Ultrawide Field (UWF) Imaging May Predict 3-Year Diabetic Retinopathy Progression in this cohort of patients followed at a single center over 3 years, baseline DR severity and A1c were the greatest predictors of progression, emphasizing the importance of accurate DR assessment and glycemic control. in eyes with nPDR, presence of far peripheral DR lesions may predict subsequent DR progression independent of baseline DR severity and glycemic control. talk

Adaptive Optics Imaging of Photoreceptors following Repair of Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachments AO imaging of repaired macula-off retinal detachments demonstrated disruptions of the photoreceptor mosaic in regions of abnormal fundus infrared signal, irregular is/Os junction and reduced visual function. Further AO studies will help us better understand microstructural and pathophysiological changes following retinal detachment repair.

New software to assess retinal non-perfusion on Optomap® Wide-Field Fundus Fluorescein Angiography in Diabetic Macular Oedema this new software package allows for an easier and faster quantification of the area and location of retinal non-perfusion in the mid and periphery on Optomap® WF-FFA images while, for the first time, taking into account the distortion that occurs in WF-FFA images. Retinal non-perfusion associated with DMO is mainly located in the mid-periphery. We found a weak correlation between cMt and mid-peripheral retinal non-perfusion.

Poster An Anatomically Correct Widefield Phantom for Retinal Optical Coherence Tomography We have deigned and are currently manufacturing a phantom eye that offers the greatest similarity reported to our knowledge, to a human eye. the WPe will enable optimisation of widefield Oct devices based on key criteria of image quality such as axial and transverse resolution, sensitivity and FOV. Furthermore, the phantom will serve as a reference tool to compare black-box Oct systems. Poster

A Population Based ultra wide-field digital image grading study for AMD-like pathologies at the peripheral retina Phenotyping retinal periphery confirmed the presence of wide ranging sub-RPe deposit formation in the periphery even in those without central sight threatening disease. there was no genotypic association with peripheral retinal changes in our samples. talk
