one of the editorial concepts that has long-served as a pillar of inspiration to our readers has been our original color stories. we have always turned to the transfixing power of vivid hues (like pantone’s 2014 color of the year: radiant orchid), rich textures, and strikingly bold contrasts to complement the inherent beauty of diy elements, local artisanal accoutrements, and stunning bridal fashions. we are honored to be able to help you make some of our favorite wedding looks into your very own.

BEFORE THE RING. As many modern tales of romance do, Jessy Lawrence and Quinton Jones’ love story began online. “I had just joined a dating site and was a little wary–I didn’t even post my picture!” Jessy says. “But when I came across Quinton’s profile I was immediately intrigued.” Taking a leap of faith, she sent him a message and they began e-mailing back and forth. A month later, the couple finally met in person and sparks flew. After an evening of dinner, drinks, and endless conversation, it was clear their web connection was true love. THE PROPOSAL. Though they lived on the East Coast, Jessy and Quinton spent a lot of time in California visiting Quinton’s family. Often their trips were family-focused, so when Quinton whisked Jessy away from San Jose for a romantic getaway at Half Moon Bay, she was slightly suspicious. A tour of the breathtaking coastline ended at the luxe Ritz Carlton. They set out along the sand for a sunset stroll, when he suggested they pause to take in the view. “I could sense what was about to happen, then all of a sudden a giant wave rolled in, forcing us to run up the beach to avoid getting soaked!” Jessy says. Seizing the perfect impromptu moment, Quinton knelt in the sand and popped the question. The couple returned to the hotel to celebrate with a gourmet dinner and a cozy candlelit evening in their private beachfront suite. THE DAY & DESIGN. Dreaming of a sophisticated lakeside celebration rife with classic New England charm, Jessy and Quinton chose the breathtaking Sagamore Resort for their soiree. A creamy palette of soft blush, ivory, and gold set the tone for romance, while custom crystal chandeliers glimmered overhead for an added touch of elegance. Hanging tassels-turned-place-tags guided guests to their seats at tablescapes where mercury glass vessels and petite porcelain vases bloomed with ruffled blossoms in the day’s shades. In a nod to their first date, the newlyweds welcomed guests to sign Jenga pieces in lieu of a traditional guest book. The evening ended on a playful note with a waterfront bonfire where friends and family roasted s’mores under the stars late into the evening.

Tankersley’s romance began in the work place. “I always had a crush on Clint, but it took him awhile to figure it out,” Tiffica says. “I offered to share my breakfast–a savory cheese baguette–with him every week, hoping he would get the hint.” Eventually, Clint realized the intentions behind her generosity and he invited Tiffica to join him at a concert. Of course, she happily agreed and they hit it off instantly. Ever since they’ve been breaking bread, oh-so deeply in love. THE PROPOSAL. In the midst of a blazing New York City summer, the couple decided to forgo beach plans to explore the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. After several hours admiring the countless masterpieces, Tiffica was losing steam when they came across the Art Deco room. Her interest piqued to marvel at the intricately elegant pieces, when Clint called her over to see an impressive sapphire ring. Tiffica looked down to see a ring box perched on the glass display case. “What do you think of this ring?” he asked, revealing her very own sparkling Art Deco-style diamond. THE DAY & DESIGN. Infusing rustic sensibilities with their own unique, quirky tastes, Tiffica and Clint’s celebration was the epitome of country chic. The restored barn at Shadow Lawn offered an aura of homespun charm, while bright turquoise, coral, and grey hues brought a lively pop to the locale’s handhewn timber interior. Sweet chalkboard signage welcomed guests to mix and mingle for a family-style feast, where mismatched table runners in bold, graphic prints lined burlap-laden tablescapes. Lush terrarium-inspired centerpieces and fresh-picked petals spilling from repurposed boxes added a trendy garden party twist to the warm, simplistic atmosphere. “Our bluegrass band was a hit,” Tiffica says. “Guests of all ages were up on their feet dancing all night long!”

up nearly a mile away from each other in separate towns of New Jersey, it took them nearly a decade to rekindle a romance that almost never was. After graduating from separate high schools, the pair crossed paths one evening at a party for mutual friends. Yes, their eyes locked and it was clear these two had a natural connection, but, according to Tammy, “Things couldn’t have been more awkward!” Neither of them could muster up the nerve to say, “Hi” that night. While they briefly attempted dating, their lives ultimately led them in separate directions. Years later, in 2008, Tammy and her friends traveled from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, where Anthony was living. “In the end, it seemed life was always guiding us to each other,” she says. The couple reconnected and a longlost crush blossomed into true love. THE PROPOSAL. Always romantic and spontaneous, Anthony surprised Tammy at the tail-end of her business trip to London with an extended stay in Europe. He whisked his sweetheart away to Paris with a special something in mind. Completely unsuspecting, she happily agreed to enjoy a getaway in the City of Lights. They spent their first day wandering the charming Parisian streets as Anthony subtly led Tammy to the secret gardens just beyond the Louvre. After several hours of meandering—and four sore feet later—Anthony popped the question with the majestic Eiffel Tower shimmering overhead. THE DAY & DESIGN. Dreaming of an intimate countryside celebration with plenty of DIY details, Tammy and Anthony chose the barn at Rufflands Farm for its rustic charm and simplistic grace. “Finding the barn was like finding the perfect canvas,” Tammy says. “It was the raw space that would allow our creativity to run wild!” The pair set the scene for romance with a color palette of dusty pinks and soft greys. Felt hearts and handwritten notes served as placecards, guiding guests to their seats at long farm-style tables topped with lush blooms and flea-market-found trinkets. Allowing their quirky style to shine through, the couple crafted a string of paper heart pennants and a papier-mâché piggy bank to unify aesthetics of playful whimsy and down-on-the-farm fun.

BEFORE THE RING. Eda Karahan and Ryan Freitas’ love story began by pure, happy coincidence. Enjoying her first trip to Las Vegas with some girlfriends, Eda decided to try her hand at the craps table. “Evidently, gambling was not my game,” she says. “One of my competitors, Ryan, had no trouble letting me know that!” The smitten strangers got to know each other over the next few days and maintained a close long-distance friendship. A few months later they met for their first date in Chicago and it was clear there was something special between them. After dating cross-country for a year, Eda finally took the plunge and moved to be with her sweetheart in sunny San Diego, CA. THE PROPOSAL. Every year the couple escaped the hustle and bustle of the city for a week of rest and relaxation in Palm Springs, CA to celebrate Ryan’s summer birthday. In December of 2012, he surprised her with a trip to the desert in the dead of winter. Eager to explore their favorite place in a new season, Eda was completely unsuspecting. The pair rose at the crack of dawn for a rigorous hike. “We started trekking up the snowy path when we came across a frosty footbridge,” Eda says. “The sunlight reflected off the landscape so beautifully, I was in awe–and even more so when I turned to see Ryan kneeling in the snow.” Proclaiming his everlasting love, he asked Eda to be his wife. THE DAY & DESIGN. Following a touching, lakeside ceremony, Eda and

Ryan welcomed loved ones to a garden-inspired soiree where fresh-picked petals and playful, personal touches crafted a crisp aura of understated elegance. Ivory paper lanterns and strung bistro lights hung above simple tablescapes where lush arrangements spilled from mismatched glass vessels. Gilded accents added a glamourous pop to the airy atmosphere, while kraft paper pieces incorporated a touch of rustic whimsy. Verdant garlands of greenery seemed to grow from the drawers of an antique writing desk, where a copy of Shel Silverstein’s Where the Sidewalk Ends stood in for a traditional guest book. Completing the design’s subtly sophisticated charm, a simple fondant confection stole the show, adorned with a blooming sugar flower and a simple gold cake topper spelling out “LOVE.”

other when they were 18 at Brown University’s admitted students day. They met through distant mutual friends, and got to know each other while touring the storied Ivy League campus. A happy coincidence, courtesy of the Brown Housing Department, placed them in the same freshman dorm that fall. “There was always something special about Jon,” Lianna says. “We began dating a month into our first year and have been happily together ever since.” THE PROPOSAL. Two years after graduation, the couple returned to their

alma mater for a Memorial Day class reunion. Unbeknownst to Lianna, Jon had rallied their closest friends to attend with a something special in mind. The first night of the weekend they set out on the Main Campus Green for the university’s annual Campus Dance. Caught up in the excitement of seeing old pals, Lianna thought nothing of it when Jon led her to a secluded alcove beyond the dance floor. There, at the place where their love story began, he sank to his knees and proposed. “It was the perfect intimate moment, followed by a joyous celebration with our college friends,” Lianna says. THE DAY & DESIGN. Striving to unite easy country style with refined

sensibilities, Lianna and Jon turned to the breathtaking Putnam Valley–the bride’s childhood home–for their “I do’s.” Following a heartfelt ceremony at the bride’s parent’s house, the couple welcomed guests to the charming Willow Ridge Farm for an open-air affair that struck the perfect chord of rustic romance. A fresh palette of sage and cream complemented the farm’s natural beauty, while striped runners and mercury glass vessels added a trendy twist to neutral tablescapes abloom with ivory arrangements. Plush antique settees brought the parlor to the pasture for cocktail hour, while the couple’s beloved canoe-turnedbeverage-bar maintained the design’s laid-back vibe.

Nicole Kondash and Jason Zlotnicki’s love story started as many true tales of romance do–they were high school sweethearts. “We met at a birthday party when we were 16 and have been inseparable ever since,” Nicole says. “You never think you’ll meet 'the one' when you’re that young, but I knew all along what we had was something very special.” Over the years the couple grew together, falling deeper in love every day. on vacation to Hilton Head, SC to celebrate Jason’s birthday. Anticipating a relaxing weekend of surf and sand, Nicole had no idea Jason had a certain sparkly secret up his sleeve. Following a delicious birthday feast, the couple set out for a stroll on the beach. Enjoying the sea breeze and the tranquil sounds of the waves crashing on the shore, they paused to enjoy the view and Jason seized his moment. “Would you give me the best birthday gift of all?” he asked on bended knee. Following a week of pre-wedded bliss on the beach, the pair flew to Napa, CA to celebrate with their families. THE DAY & DESIGN. When it came time to tie the knot, Nicole and Jason

knew the breathtaking Lodge at Welch Allyn would be the perfect setting for an elegant affair aglow with refined grace. Inspired by the rich, wood interiors of the Lodge, the couple turned to their coordinator, Lovewell Celebration Design, to craft the perfect palette of burnished blush, shimmering gold, and opulent ivory. Gilded manzanita branches added textural interest to stately arrangements where ruffled blooms spilled from majestic bronze urns. Striving to keep the design attuned to their shared interests, the java-loving couple propped place cards with raw coffee beans and offered guests piping hot sips of their favorite local roasts, complete with personalized to-go cups.

Friendly competition and undeniable attraction brought Aly Dick and Fabio Zamith together while playing soccer for the Zog Sports charity league in New York City. “When I heard a new, Brazilian player was joining our team, I was intrigued,” Aly says. “Throughout the game he kept passing me the ball—we had great chemistry on the field.” Afterwards, the team went out for a few post-game cocktails and the pair chatted all night long. Both equally competitive and adventurous, they had found their perfect match. the proposal. When Fabio’s parents came to visit from Brazil, the couple was thrilled to show them all the beauty that New York State has to offer beyond the five boroughs. From the infamous Saratoga Springs racetrack to Alexandria Bay, they planned a fun-filled tour of the Finger Lakes and Adirondack Regions with Aly’s parents. While lunching at the majestic Belhurst Castle on Seneca Lake, Fabio caught his sweetheart alone on a bench overlooking the sparkling waters. Completely taking her by surprise, he got down on bended knee and asked her to be his wife. “It was simple, sweet and from the heart,” Aly says. “It was so special to be able to share that memory and all of its excitement with our parents–even with my dad, who had to leave early. Fabio had him on speed dial the minute after I said ‘Yes!’” the day & design. Originally dreaming of a beachfront ceremony in Brazil, Aly and Fabio realized the bride’s hometown of Hamilton, NY would be the perfect place for a family-focused celebration that reflected their unique sense of style. A bold palette of bright coral, punchy pink, and vivid greens spoke to the groom’s Brazilian heritage, while soft shades of cream grounded the design to complement the hand-hewn character of the countryside. Infusing the elegant ambience with rustic touches, the open-air affair struck the perfect balance between chic cocktail party and laid-back soiree. A vintage truck stood on the lawn stocked with local brews, while delicious caipirinha–a traditional Brazilian beverage–was served as an exotic refreshment.

school, she had no idea the love of her life was just around the corner. She met Adam Kohler, a junior from a neighboring town, through a mutual friend and was instantly smitten. A casual crush blossomed into teenage love, as the couple spent the next nine years growing and learning together. “Going through the trials and tribulations of maturing and making big life decisions has made our relationship so incredibly strong,” Meghan says. “We are truly best friends, and I am so happy to have shared so many wonderful memories with him.” THE PROPOSAL. Every year Meghan’s family visited Cape Cod for a week of surf, sand, and relaxation. Adam and the rest of the Veces’ significant others had become regulars on the trip, so the family established a “date night” where the couples could enjoy a night out alone. When they packed up for yet another beach trip in the summer of 2012, Adam had a special surprise to make this ocean getaway unforgettable. On designated “date night,” the couple headed to their favorite spot, The Beacon Room, for dinner when Meghan’s brother-in-law insisted they check out the seals flocking on the beach. Arriving at a deserted stretch of sand, Meghan realized it was a set up as Adam knelt in the sand to pop the question. “It was amazing,” she says. “When we finally arrived at the restaurant, my entire family was there and we celebrated all night long.” THE DAY & DESIGN. Aiming to strike the perfect chord of opulent grandeur, Meghan and Adam used classic ivory, shimmering champagne, and dreamy blush shades to craft an aura of lavish romance. Seeking an eclectic element, the couple created two tablescape themes–alternating stately branch centerpieces with simplistic arrangements on cake stands–while crystal votives graced each table to maintain a cohesive aesthetic. “Our favorite accent was the custom ‘guest book’ my cousin created,” Meghan says. “In lieu of a traditional album, he made a wooden wine rack holding ten empty wine bottles, each marked with a big anniversary year. Guests wrote little notes of advice and well wishes for us to read when it comes time to open the bottle.”
