this spring & summer, discover beauty in all things old & new to create a celebration as unique as your love.

old soul. new heart. Not only is this issue our love letter to DIY projects, crafts, and ideas, it’s also an invitation to you, our readers, to embrace DIY as an integral part of what will make your wedding amazing. Whether I’m venturing down country roads on the hunt for antique shops or scouring local junkyards for long-forgotten

treasures, I never stop thinking about how to create something new out of something classic. This enduring love for homespun details and the reinterpretation of what’s old has helped WellWed - New York, sister WellWed magazines and Vermont Vows to evolve into the publications that they are today.

Vintage objects have a story to tell — they invite you to learn about their history and rediscover their beauty, while adding a new chapter of your own. Our “Start Your Engines” gown shoot (Page 97) is a celebration of this pairing of old and new, with exquisite modern bridal couture alongside vintage automobiles. My love for everything vintage is rooted in the belief that combining old and new can evoke a sense of timelessness — much like true love. Just as vintage cars and classic gowns never go out of style, this type of love never fades; it ages gracefully and adapts with time until, eventually, everything old is new again. Here at WellWed, we have created a sanctuary for crafting and creating. Overlooking a river that once powered the historic mills of Winooski, Vermont, our office has become a place of creative energy, where simple ideas are translated into something special. Whether we’re shooting an innovative tabletop design or crafting a homemade cake topper, our office has become a place of refuge where I can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life to create one-of-a-kind items. Our creative retreat is something brides can make for themselves. A sanctuary, no matter how small, where you can put your energy into special DIY projects is the perfect way to ensure your wedding is a physical expression of your

extraordinary love. This spring and summer, as the warm rays of the sun break through lush trees and birdsong awakens the world from its winter slumber, brides-to-be can ring in the new season with a fresh yet timeless love, a love that echoes the sweet marriages of our grandparents, that only gets more valuable with time, and that ultimately becomes an heirloom so priceless, you wouldn’t trade it for anything.

With more than forty-five years of combined experience, father & son photography team, Joe & JP Elario have upheld a family legacy for over three decades.

THE ELARIOS’ ADVICE: become friends with your photographer! they are one of your best sources for referrals & advice, as they work with a lot of professionals within the wedding industry and know what works. names: Joe and JP Elario business: Joe Elario Photography Years in Business: thirty location: albany, NEW YORK website: joeelariophotography.com

Photography seems to be in the Elario blood. When Joe Elario began photographing weddings more than thirty years ago, his son JP, soon developed an interest in the family business. At the age of eleven, JP began to accompany his father to weddings to help him work, and he has never looked back. With more than five years of formal photography education and fifteen years of experience, JP knows how to coax a relaxed and natural demeanor from his subjects, resulting in perfectly captured moments. A dedicated blogger, JP is inspired by those who follow him online. “When I hear someone say, ‘I love these photos,’ ‘I can’t thank you enough,’ or ‘I want to see more,’ I just want to get out there and do it all over again,” he says. Whether he’s taking pictures, blogging, or helping clients with advice about vendors — so many years in the business has made him an expert — JP’s passion for his work always results in extraordinary images documenting once-in-a-lifetime events.

Chances are you’ve already spent some time thinking about who will be your wedding attendants — siblings, close friends, or other relatives near and dear to you. As their officiant read during their wedding ceremony, “In the 13 years that Andrew and Erin have known each other, they have been many things: acquaintance, nuisance, friend, drinking buddy, sparring partner, crush, fiancé, and now they become husband and wife.” In fact, the two were simply friends all through high school and college before they began dating during their senior year. “It was a long time coming, but we realized the wait had been worth it,” says Erin. “We were already best friends, and after we began dating, the rest was easy.” Several years later, on February 16, 2009, one month after Andrew had purchased the ring, four days after he had arrived in New York City to visit Erin, and two days after Valentines Day, Andrew awoke on a sunny morning and knew that it was the big day. He and Erin set off on foot for brunch at the Central Park Boathouse, enjoying a rare winter day of sunshine. As they approached the lake, Andrew asked Erin to close her eyes because he had a surprise for her. He placed a ring in her hand and Erin opened her eyes to find him kneeling before her. Erin was so surprised, she dropped her purse, sunglasses, and gloves. Laughing and excited, she accepted.

Elegant yet playful, Erin and Andrew’s wedding day was a relaxed affair full of chic details and personal elements.

Erin and Andrew knew they wanted to have an outdoor wedding. Neither belonged to a church, but both had been raised in families that taught them to have a great love and respect for the outdoors. Other than that, however, they hadn’t narrowed down their options. With Erin living in New York City at the time and Andrew in Pennsylvania, the search was simply too broad, and both were relieved when Erin’s parents suggested the couple consider the Finger Lakes Region. After visiting the Aurora Inn, they knew they had found the perfect place. “Quite simply, for us, the Finger Lakes was the total package,” says Erin. “You have the charm of the country, the luxury of water, the beautiful summers, the exceptional wineries and restaurants. We decided it was the perfect location for our guests to enjoy for the first time or, like we did, fall in love with all over again.” The morning of their wedding dawned sunny, clear, and perfect. Erin and Andrew incorporated many personal elements into their ceremony, beginning with their officiant — a close friend who became temporarily ordained in order to marry the couple. “We knew we wanted our ceremony to be very personal, sweet, and a little fun,

but no matter what words we came up with, they weren’t going to make sense if a stranger was saying them back to us,” says Erin. Both from Irish families, the bride and groom tied Erin’s Claddagh ring to the ring bearer’s plate to include its symbolism of friendship, love, and loyalty — three pillars of a long and happy marriage. Andrew’s own ring also held special meaning, as he had it custom made with Erin’s fingerprint engraved on the outside of the band. After the ceremony, guests relaxed in a chic lounge area in between stints on the dance floor, keeping cool with fresh lemonade, peach sangria, pineapple margaritas, and palm fans tied with yellow and gray ribbon. A jazz combo played softly in the background during cocktail hour, and as the sun set, white lanterns and tea lights shone from the trees like fireflies. Looking back on their wedding, Erin and Andrew couldn’t be happier with their day. “It’s a fleeting, beautiful moment in your life,” says Erin. “Mine was a summer dream, and the only way to make sure you won’t be sad when it’s over is to be really happy it happened.”

When Andrea first moved to New York City shortly after college, she arrived with only an overstuffed suitcase and nothing else. Little did she know she was about to meet the love of her life. Andrea applied for waitress positions all over Manhattan, and it wasn’t long before she landed a job at a restaurant called Mickey Mantel’s. She settled into her new home, working and spending time with friends. After about four months at the restaurant, the manager announced that the place had been purchased by a private owner — a chef and Culinary Institute of America graduate who would really help make the place shine. That’s when she met Chris. As anyone who has ever worked in the restaurant business knows, staff members often end up spending lots of time together on busy days. Chris and Andrea quickly became good friends, often going out with the rest of the crew after closing. It was clear that they had feelings for one another, but both were too shy to make a move. Finally, during an evening out, Andrea lost her wallet and tracked down Chris’ phone number the next day to see if he knew where she had left it. Chris couldn’t help her with the wallet, but he did take the opportunity to save her number, and called her back to ask her to dinner that evening. “From that day forward, I saw Chris every day, making the commute directly crosstown from my apartment on the East Side to his on the West Side,” says Andrea.

With a vintage-chic vision in mind, the couple integrated burlap, twine, and lace elements into the décor.

For their four-year anniversary, Chris surprised Andrea with a trip to the Dominican Republic. One evening, he told her he had made reservations at a hotel restaurant for dinner. She was surprised when, on their way to the lobby, he led her instead to the beach, where a little boat awaited them. After a short ride on the boat, the couple boarded a luxurious yacht for a sunset cruise before being dropped back off at the beach. “There were candles in the sand that formed a path to a table, where plates and champagne were set up,” says Andrea. Andrea was excited for a romantic meal, but it wasn’t long before Chris dropped to one knee, a gorgeous ring in hand. “Of course, I said yes. I was so excited that I still, to this day, have no idea what we had for dinner,” says Andrea. The date was August 14, 2009, exactly four years since their first date. Andrea and Chris love their home in the city but were eager to plan a wedding in a more relaxed setting. Andrea grew up in Upstate New York and for her, a city wedding wasn’t an option. “I knew immediately I wanted to get married back home, away from the noisy

streets and crowds of people,” she says. Chris wholeheartedly agreed, and the two embarked on an Adirondacks wedding at The Sagamore, a place Andrea had dreamed of being married since she was a little girl. On August 14, 2010, exactly one year since they had become engaged and five years since they had first fallen in love, Andrea and Chris were married in a beautiful outdoor ceremony. With a vintage-chic vision in mind, the couple integrated burlap, twine, and lace elements into the décor. Andrea pinned her late grandmother’s antique brooch to her bouquet as her “something borrowed” and also carried an Irish blessing coin for luck. The couple presented guests with customblended tea favors courtesy of Chris’ sister Linda, owner of local business SerendipiTea. In between taking photos and the beginning of cocktail hour, the bride and groom had an unexpected free hour of time that they now look back and remember as their favorite moment of the day. No matter how fabulous the celebration, both agree nothing could beat a quiet moment spent together and in love.

For many couples, sharing an apartment that was no more than a single room would be unthinkable, but for Annie and Matt, who lived in a 350-square-foot studio in Manhattan for over two years, the close quarters only reaffirmed the fact that they were meant to be together. After meeting through mutual friends in Manhattan, Annie and Matt kept their eyes on one another for several months before Matt made a move and finally asked Annie out. Soon the two were inseparable, traveling all over the country together and eventually attending more than 150 live music shows over the course of six years. It was in New Orleans on one of these trips that Matt decided he was going to ask Annie to be his wife. Strolling along the riverbank and gazing dreamily at the water, Matt was poised to pop the question when Annie’s cell phone rang. “My brother called my phone from our apartment. He was staying there for the weekend and had locked himself out,” says Annie. Her conversation with her brother lasted nearly 25 minutes, and as she talked, Annie noticed Matt becoming more and more visibly agitated, but could not figure out why. Finally she hung up and, his plan having been interrupted, Matt forgot about the speech he had rehearsed and simply dove in. “He just got on his knee and asked me to be his wife,” Annie says simply. Annie, who suddenly understood why Matt had been acting so strange during her phone call, was thrilled.

Annie and Matt’s strongest goal for their wedding was “leaving people with the feeling it encompassed everything we are,” explains Annie.

58

w

Though Annie grew up in California, she had moved to New York for college and took an instant liking to the East Coast. Matt had grown up in Rockland County, and though the couple had made a home in the city, they felt that the Hudson Valley would be the perfect place for their wedding. “The region has so many beautiful locations, is known for its food and wine, and has amazing views, and it isn’t too far from NYC for those who traveled from far away,” explains Annie. Both Annie and Matt have an enthusiasm for travel and had often talked about planning a yearlong excursion around the world. Not only was their wedding a great opportunity to incorporate their love of adventure — the couple had settled on a travel-themed ceremony to celebrate their shared passion — but neither of them could think of a better opportunity to embark on a worldwide voyage than their honeymoon.

Expanding on the travel theme, Annie purchased dozens of old postcards for guests to write their well-wishes on, and vintage suitcases for them to drop the cards into. The plan was for her and Matt to read them when they returned home after their honeymoon adventure. The couple had settled on a rustic yet chic color palette for the celebration, relying on rich tones of olive green and light peach. The overall effect gave the event a muted and sophisticated feel and veered away from overly feminine colors. Aside from the color palette and travel theme, Annie and Matt’s strongest goal for their wedding was “leaving people with the feeling it encompassed everything we are,” explains Annie. To incorporate Matt’s college years spent at Tulane in New Orleans, they enlisted a regional Dixieland group to play during the cocktail hour. Annie, a trained sommelier, named each table after different grape varietals. Finally, the bride and groom incorporated their first shared love — music. “We both love a lot of the same music, so we chose one of our favorite song’s lyrics to embroider on our ring bearer’s pillow.” As the wedding came to an end and an exciting honeymoon of exotic sights and cultures awaited them on all corners of the globe, Annie and Matt couldn’t help but remember their tiny shared studio, a small place that neither of them would have ever traded, even for the world. 60

It was Boston’s first snowfall of the year when Brian asked Katharine to join him at a caroling party at the Crane Estate, a gorgeous historic mansion overlooking Ipswich Bay. Before the party began, the couple took a stroll around the property and found themselves at the edge of a cliff overlooking the water. Brian knew it was the perfect time. Getting to one knee, he asked Katharine to be his wife. Katharine, who had always assumed she would burst into tears at a proposal, was surprised that, instead of weeping, she let out a squeal of delight before responding, “Absolutely, yes!” As the snow continued softly falling, the couple left the party and instead dropped by their alma mater, Gordon College, on Boston’s North Shore, and rang the engagement bell — a school tradition. Returning home, they spent the evening in front of a glowing Christmas tree, eagerly calling family and friends to share the news. Ringing the school bell was an appropriate way to announce the next step in a relationship that had begun at Gordon College. Katharine and Brian first met when they both volunteered to work the booths at freshmen orientation week in the summer of 2006. “We began hanging out with the same friends, and that turned into going on walks and grabbing coffee together,” says Katharine. Their first official date came in October, and they decided to spend the afternoon at Ocean’s Lawn, a huge nature reserve on the cliffs of Magnolia. Together, they climbed onto a flat rock jutting out into the water and talked for hours. After that day, they both knew they had found something great. “We spent the next several years together, graduating from school and starting our careers, all while having a blast and falling in love,” says Katharine.

Katharine, a graphic designer, embraced a DIY philosophy for the wedding to create celebratory, cheerful décor.

Katharine, a graphic designer, embraced a DIY philosophy for the wedding. She wanted to create celebratory, cheerful décor based on yellow, her favorite color, so she mixed and matched paint swatches, ultimately choosing baby blue, navy blue, and white to complement her main color. “The result was a summery, nautical theme combining both modern and vintage elements,” says Brian. In the months before the wedding, Katharine personally made all the invitations, programs, menus, place cards, a series of small flags reading “hooray,” tags for mini-bags of kettle corn, pinwheels for the ceremony, and mustaches for the photo booth. “I wanted our day to be filled with our personalities and quirks,” says Katharine, who also made letters to lay across the cake table and tiny flags for the cake. The décor suited Katharine and Brian’s easygoing, happy personalities,

which also came forward on the dance floor. When the couple were first getting to know each other, they had often gone swing and salsa dancing. So for their first dance, they opted to skip traditional music and instead boogied to Michael Bublé’s version of “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” Katharine’s grandmother, a lifelong kindergarten teacher, was unable to attend the wedding, but Katharine honored her presence by ringing her school bell after she and Brian exchanged vows. “It was a personal way of connecting with her during a moment I wish we could have shared together,” she says. Both Katharine and Brian’s grandfathers had also played a big role in their lives, and each spoke at the ceremony. “Between the two sets of grandparents is 125 years of marriage! We couldn’t have had better role models during our ceremony,” says Katharine. Aside from a quick cake-cutting ceremony and the first dance, Katharine and Brian decided to forego other wedding traditions to leave more time for dancing. “We just didn’t want to stop dancing! The floor was full all night, and we had a blast!” says Katharine. As they spun around the dance floor, the couple knew they would never stop enjoying that crazy little thing called love.

Beth Lytwynec and Matias Mariani, both aspiring opera singers, met as graduate students at the Boston Conservatory. Matias was new to the school and was looking for information about the opera department, and Beth, who had completed her undergraduate degree there, offered to help him figure out what the school had to offer. As two members of a class of just five people, it wasn’t long before they felt like old friends. Months later, Matias was cast as Prince Charming in Cendrillon, the opera version of Cinderella. The role seemed like fate. A few weeks after the performance, Matias showed up at Beth’s apartment and said he had no idea what was going to happen after they were finished with school, but he was sure he wanted to be with her, if she would have him. It wasn’t long before the couple fell in love, beginning a real-life fairy tale of their own. One of the best things about Beth and Matias’ relationship has always been their shared passion for opera. After obtaining their graduate degrees, they even traveled to Italy together to attend a program for young opera singers. Unbeknowst to Beth, Matias had written a letter to her parents before they left, asking permission to marry their daughter. With their blessing, Matias proposed to Beth one evening in front of a beautiful medieval church. Gelato in hand, Beth accepted, more sure than ever that she had found her Prince Charming. Though they briefly considered a Boston wedding, in the end they realized that Upstate New York was the perfect place for their wedding. Beth grew up there and has family in the area, and it just felt like the better choice.

“Beth didn’t choose a particular color palette. She knew she wanted the whole day to feel romantic and classic, with flair,” says Matias.

70

w

When it came to the décor, Beth and Matias wanted to blend modern style with a sense of nostalgia. “Beth didn’t choose a particular color palette. She knew she wanted the whole day to feel romantic and classic, with flair,” says Matias. The pair paid special attention to little details, knowing that every element would contribute in a small way to the overall feel of the celebration. Beth chose decorative aspects based on whether or not they would help create a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Sure enough, when the day arrived, “The linens, flowers, ribbons, candles, centerpieces, and feathers were all details that simply looked like they belonged,” says Matias. The reception area was filled with a delightfully unexpected collection of vintage-inspired elements that the couple put a personal twist on. The photo booth,

for instance, consisted of a wall of vintage family photographs — and a few empty frames for guests to peek through — that added a bit of playfulness to the event. The bride and groom even had an assortment of false mustaches and hats for some added fun. An antique birdcage adorned the gift table, and quill pens beckoned for guests to sign the guest book in style. The wedding ended up as welcoming and warm as the bride and groom could have asked for. Every detail, from the enchanting harp music to the delicately calligraphed place cards to the simple pink roses spilling out of glass jars, reflected Beth and Matias’ personalities and celebrated their love. The readings at the ceremony were conducted in both English and Spanish to honor Matias’ heritage and allow everyone to enjoy the mass. The couple agree that their favorite moment of the day was when they first laid eyes on the ballroom and it became clear that all their careful planning had added up to something extraordinary. “It was really special,” says Matias. “Our parents were with us, and we could all instantly feel the love and warmth throughout the room.”

When Melissa DePasquale and Jerome Broderick first began dating after meeting online, the circumstances were less than perfect. Melissa was recovering from a bout of mono, so they had to wait nearly a month before sharing their first kiss. It’s safe to say the kiss was well worth the wait, and soon they both knew they had found something special. “We became so dependent on each other, but in the best way possible — where you can’t enjoy anything to the fullest unless you’re doing it together,” says Melissa. For the next few years, as they lived together in a succession of different cities, they fell more and more in love. One weekend, Melissa and Jerome traveled to New Hampshire for a camping trip. On their last morning there, they decided to take a quick spin around the lake in a rowboat. “We were the only ones out that morning, so it was really quiet and the water looked like glass,” says Melissa. As the couple drifted through the quiet waters, they came upon an area thick with lily pads. Jerome lifted the paddles, letting the boat glide silently over the lake amid the cheerful chirping of birds. Suddenly, Jerome unexpectedly reached into his pocket, pulled out a box in the unmistakable Tiffany blue, and asked Melissa to be his wife. Of course she accepted, reasoning, “You can’t say no to the blue box, right?”

The couple took inspiration from the region’s natural colors, incorporating vibrant green hues and rich chocolate browns throughout their décor.

76

w

Though Melissa and Jerome currently live in North Carolina, they both grew up in New York, Melissa in Schenectady and Jerome in Rochester. Wanting to be married somewhere that felt like home, they began looking for a venue within a 90-minute radius of the Capital Region. They didn’t have to search long before they discovered Saratoga National. “It represented Jerome and me so well — modern and bold,” says Melissa. They took inspiration from the venue’s natural colors, incorporating the vibrant green of the golf course and the rich chocolate brown of the club. Since Melissa is a graphic designer by trade, she took on a lot of the wedding planning herself. “I need to have my hands on everything, and it would have been too hard for me to hand off work to others,” she says. The bride’s talent as a graphic designer was put to good use. She began with their save the dates, creating the stationery using a real, brightgreen gold tee that perfectly matched the spirit of the venue. Adding a bit of silliness to the celebration, Melissa attached a pin to each place card with phrases such as: “I heart weddings,” “I’m a dance machine,” and “Sorry, I’m taken.” Of course, Melissa and Jerome got the best

pins, reading “Mr.” and “Mrs.” Each of the couple’s parents received a delicate handkerchief hand-embroidered with a special message. “We really wanted to thank our parents in a unique way that was personal and meaningful,” says Melissa. There was no shortage of treats for those with a sweet tooth. A quirky candy bar provided green-hued treats that were almost too cute to eat, and guests couldn’t help but be amazed at the spectacular fondantenveloped lime-green cake. Though there were the inevitable small mishaps — Melissa’s dress simply refused to bustle, for example — both agree that the day was so happy and full of joy, nothing that could have made it better. Besides, Melissa couldn’t help but laugh when a grasshopper leapt out from the bottom of her gown, a souvenir from all the time they had spent taking photos in a grassy field outside. “After spending all that time in the field for the photos, I am shocked that only one grasshopper made it back with us,” says Melissa. Lizy and Wyatt’s goal when it came to planning their wedding was simple: comfort. “We wanted our guests to feel the comfort you feel when you sit on the blanket at the end of a family picnic, a moment that feels captured in time, both intimate and romantic,” says Lizy. Together they prepared a wedding celebration in the heart of the Finger Lakes that spoke of comfort and love — with some DIY flair thrown into the mix. The couple met in college when Lizy attended a party at Wyatt’s fraternity house. They hit it off right away and began dating immediately. When Wyatt left for a semester abroad in Barbados, they continued to date long-distance, knowing they had found something great. “It was a rough eight months of not seeing each other, but it confirmed how much we cared for one another,” says Lizy. The couple got engaged over Christmas one year when, sitting by the sparkling lights of the Christmas tree, Lizy accepted Wyatt’s proposal to be his wife. Lizy and Wyatt began the wedding-planning process by making a list of items that would radiate “comfort”: glowing candles, heirloom vases, garden flowers, pitchers of lemonade, and handmade linens. Once they had these items as a framework for their basic design, they began to tweak the “comfort” concept to better represent them as a couple. “Drawing inspiration from the things we love most in life made our planning feel very honest and true,” says Lizy.

Lizy and Wyatt made a list of items that would radiate “comfort”: glowing candles, garden flowers, pitchers of lemonade, and handmade linens.

The couple incorporated yellow, navy blue, and turquoise tones into their décor. “Yellow is joy and happiness; navy is classic, crisp, and understated; and sage turquoise is gentle and lovely. Three colors that embodied the feelings we wanted for our wedding,” says Lizy. After designing and cutting the place cards herself, she attached each to a lemon, which she placed on a bed of wheatgrass. She also used an assortment of unique glass vessels to create a lemon candy bar. “The groom has a big sweet tooth! And his favorites are lemon candies,” she explains. To take the candies home, guests were given tiny bags adorned with tags reading, “How sweet it is.” On each place setting, Lizy included a homemade napkin holder made of wide navy grosgrain ribbon lined with a thinner ivory ribbon her mother had sewn herself. This resulting in rustic yet elegant napkins that spoke of charming homespun details. For table numbers, Lizy and Wyatt purchased oversized letters from a hardware store and painted them navy blue. A different letter of the alphabet adorned each table. It was not only cute but also a nod to Lizy’s passion for teaching.

Lizy and Wyatt found a terrific local calligrapher and worked with her to design all the stationery before printing it at a nearby printing press. “Using local artists saved us bundles on cost and gave back to our community. We also had our hands in the design process, allowing our visions to truly come to fruition,” says Lizy. Instead of a wedding cake, the couple served pies baked by a family friend. “Neither of us really likes cake!” explains Lizy. “I always had raspberry pie for my birthdays, and Wyatt grew up on his grandmother’s amazing peach pie, so pie it was.” Adding a little whimsy to the desserts were hand-painted cake toppers the couple found on Etsy and Lizy’s mother painted herself. DIY brides often have the difficult job of weighing the amount of time spent completing each project with the costs they are saving. For Lizy and Wyatt, however, the time was more than worth it. “Assembling everything by hand was quite the bonding experience, and a fantastic way to keep our budget low without sacrificing on style,” she says. Her one piece of advice to fellow DIY brides? “At home, kiss and joke a lot! And remember, everything will go perfectly if it is perfectly you!”

Christine Wheat has been coordinating weddings for more than 12 years. As the ow ner of Ch r ist i ne A .Wheat Specia l Events Firm, a full-service event planning, consulting, and coordination business, she stays busy executing one fantastic event after another. Nichole Mirabile and Luke R igolosi ’s wedding was no exception. Eager for an elegant and opulent formal celebration, the future bride and groom enlisted Christine to make their wedding vision a reality. Christine first met with the couple almost a year before their wedding date of May 22, 2010. They began by going over their general planning, and Christine knew right away that this was going to be a fun wedding. “The bride was very detail oriented and 90

set your wedding day budget to reflect what is most important to you as a couple. if you prefer fine wine & food? make sure the caterer and bar menu are top of list when allocating dollars. wanted every guest to have an ‘OMG’ moment when they entered the ballroom,” she says. They began immediately, working on the save the date cards and drafting a rough wedding day itinerary. This was followed by details such as arranging transportation for their 300 guests, renting a vintage car for the bride and groom, and picking fonts and graphics for the invitations. By February, the invitations were in the mail, complete with beautiful calligraphy and custom stamps.

Nichole waited anxiously for her RSVPs to be answered by the end of April. With such a large guest list, the number in attendance was extremely important, especially since they still needed to settle on a final seating chart, welcome bags, and day-of stationery. For this reason, Christine advises brides to give themselves at least four weeks after their RSVP deadline: “There are many things that depend on those final numbers.” After a few final arrangements, the big day finally arrived. The ballroom in the Hall of Springs was so beautiful, Christine was sure that every guest would experience the “wow factor” Nichole had been hoping for. “From the chic ice bowls during cocktail hour to the beautiful white dance floor, to the absolutely stunning arrangements adorning each guest table, nothing was overlooked,” says Christine. The charming black-and-white affair — with a splash of pink — was formal without being stuffy, and ultimately extraordinary. For Christine Wheat, crafting magical events like this one is all in a day’s work. {featured professionals} Coordination: Christine A Wheat Special Events cweventsfirm.com Event Rentals: Clifton Park Rental cliftonparkrental.com (Page 29) Floral Design: Renaissance Floral Design renaissancefloraldesign.com (Page 50) Hair & Makeup: Make Me Fabulous makemefabulous.com (Page 188) Invitations: PaperDolls of Saratoga paperdollsofsaratoga.com (Page 188) Photography: Clark + Walker clarkwalkerstudio.com (Page 11) Reception Site: Hall of Springs hallofsprings.com (page 79) Stationery & Welcome Bags: The Pink Orange thepinkorange.com (Page 189)

watch

No other watch is engineered quite like a Rolex. The Datejust, introduced in 1945, was the first wristwatch to display the date through an aperture on the dial. Its unique magnifying Cyclops eye, added a few years later, became recognized as a Rolex design standard. Now in a larger, more distinguished 41 mm size, the Datejust II is a natural evolution of a classic. The Datejust II is presented here in a signature Rolex combination of 904L steel and 18 kt white gold.
