As the spirit moves! Our Faculty of Physical Education and Physiotherapy offers high-level educational programmes and research in the field of fundamental, applied and clinical movement sciences. In line with the core values of the university – research and thought without dogma - students are educated to become academically-trained movement scientists or physiotherapists with a critical and autonomous mind. Interdisciplinary thinking is key and our researchers work together with colleagues active in the fields of sciences, engineering, medicine and humanities. As a result, our research groups have an international reputation in areas such as exercise & the brain, health promotion, pain management, body composition & interpersonal anatomical variances, rehabilitation after breast cancer, sport psychology, sport policy & management, etc. Our pioneering spirit in education and research means that our faculty is always a faculty on the move!

“I arrived at the Human Physiology Department (MFYS) of the Faculty of Physical Education and Physiotherapy in 1998, and started my PhD project on the role of different neurotransmitter systems on fatigue during endurance exercise. I also monitored athletes in the prevention of overtraining and developed a monitoring system. This system is currently used by top level athletes and teams. I find it amazing how much the Faculty has grown and how active they are. After my PhD, I moved back to Rome. Nevertheless, my collaboration with the Faculty remains solid. A few years ago I spent a whole year working at VUB; today, I visit the MFYS lab for meetings every two months. We have mutual research projects and write European Grant proposals.”
