BUSINESS ANALYST Major Function of the position  

     

Reports to the Community Futures Highwood (CFH) General Manager (GM) Responsible for all Business Development Operations which includes: o Small Business Loans o Advisory Services – coach/mentor clients through Business Plan Development, Business Idea Development; and Sales/Marketing Strategies. o Business Training – identifying, hosting or partnering in the delivery of quality business training opportunities for the regions business community and new entrepreneurs o Information Services – who are we; what do we do; what is a business plan; what does our services cost; what is our loan process; data base tools inventoried to help with questions about incorporation; registration; business plan templates; business licenses in the region; and any other pertinent business question. o Youth Entrepreneurship Projects and Programs and Camp o Entrepreneurs with Disabilities projects and Programs Annually develop appropriate Business Development targets in line with our Government of Canada contract and implement strong response strategies to deliver upon those targets Provide semi annual and annual status reports on Business Development targets, variances and success stories for reporting to the CFH Board and WED on behalf of the Government of Canada Meet or exceed the Business Loan number and value targets each year Meet or exceed the Business Advisory number and value targets each year Meet or exceed the Business Training targets of CFH through planned events; strategizing and implementing new training opportunities; etc. With the support of the GM, manage the Loan Portfolio on behalf of the Board’s Investment Review Committee (IRC) ensuring a balanced and continuous loan growth, securing of the assets of the portfolio and meeting the targets established in the organization’s Operations/Business Plan. o Ensure all Loan reviews are completed in a timely manner o Ensure all registered security has adequate diary schedules and these are acted upon religiously Develop and maintain a strong working bond with our IRC. This includes understanding and honouring each other’s roles and responsibilities. o Ensure the IRC is provided timely, complete, well investigated and clear information by which to make decisions. In conjunction with the GM, ensure the IRC is always kept abreast, in a timely manner, of client issues and portfolio concerns. o In conjunction with the GM, ensure the IRC is provided user friendly portfolio financial reports that allow them to fulfil their mandate. o In conjunction with the GM, ensure the IRC Chair is provided with appropriate reports with which to provide the CFH Board of Directors appropriate, informative Loan Portfolio reports that demonstrate that there is adequate Investment Portfolio & Risk Management practises in place and that CFH is meeting its mandated targets (alternatively variance reports explaining short falls and actions being taken) at the CFH. Utilize and develop a sound understanding of TEA – CF client and management data base soft ware program, to ensure accurate input that tracks client meetings and actions; input to on-going Business Development projects and activities; to access and generate accurate reports; and to manage loan files; etc.


   

Maintain a strong awareness and practice as it relates to client confidentiality and the Government’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) policies. Manage expenditures within budget and within planned for purchases; Manage sponsorship and marketing budgets within the very limited budget dollars available Overall responsibility incorporates community awareness of ALL CFH Programs & Services as well as supporting the many CFH Programs; Contracts and Services.

Work closely with the CFH Administrative Assistant in completing all Business Development administrative needs – ensure and recommend appropriate training in areas needed Maintain a positive ‘team’ orientated work environment Keep the CFH GM aware of all concerns, issues, department or personal needs; Implement the organizations mandate of an existing ‘Client’ visitation program – visiting all existing clients with a targeted action plans upon which to focus in the visit – look for successes and red flags Promote our general business and loan programs through awareness visits to our primary target market... our regional bankers, lawyers, accountants, and Economic Development Practitioners, especially on the heals of new product announcements, community group presentations and target marketing Ensure timely Variance reports and actions are provided and negotiated with the GM to address short falls in our deliveries Provide quality loan proposals that are well investigated, analysed and developed thus assisting our IRC to make the ‘right’ decision – in a ‘can do environment’ Improve the timeliness of IRC package delivery lead time to our IRC members Ensure all reports and invoices are timely, accurate and well documented Maintain a monthly update report practice with Equifax; Develop and implement appropriate community partnerships for the delivery of business seminars; small business week events; business training opportunities; sponsorship opportunities that make sense; and other key collaboration opportunities. Ensure TEA is constantly updated and information accurate as per the Government of Canada (WED) guidelines Invite WED and shareholders to any and all key training events, trade shows and key board/staff planning retreats/sessions.
